the point of the name is it has to LCD rap and you fucked it up last year and now we’re gonna make that mistake again

even Drake is drinking syrup to show hes down, some elderly lady was arrested for heading a multi-million dollar syrup smuggling operation, etc.

no, you’re missing the point

??? dude, this was perfect for this year’s brick squad saturation

like if it’s not v-nasty/mac miller/lil twist/or racks-on-racks related, you fucked the thread title up again

the point of the name is not JUST LCD, the point of the name is “LCD that is actually dope”

xpost no

“I ain’t duct-taped me a n***a in a long time”

you’ve been misunderstanding the point of the thread for 5 years running now

It’s LCD that’s gonna be outdated as the year goes by, that’s why it was funny to see “snap” all year

i can’t believe how dumb you are

i’m sorry... but you’re just wrong

actually i would be down with rolling racks on racks. i feel like that manages to capture some of the je ne sais quoi of lcd rap in 2011. and it’s a dope song fuiud.

rolling suck my dick region thread

snap is timeless

it was always about lovably owning someone else’s version of LCD rap, not pointing out what the worst possible rap music is

rolling A$AP ROCKY HAS THREE MILLION DOLLARS thread

racks on racks is a dope song but its a one-off like tony montana that doesnt really capture the zeitgeist imo

“racks on racks” was an okay suggestion months ago, but the thread title usually tries to capture something — “racks on racks” is just a line from a song

rolling syrup in my solo cup thread

and yes i know that “stupid fruity crazy swag” was also just a line from a song but it also referred to an entire sub sub genre of music

ha i just dl’d that album

as if i didnt have enough white rappers in my ’11 folder

who is ‘i ain’t gonna eat it’?

whiney what did you call the thread the one time you named it that got changed cuz everyone hated it so much

BoJackSanNeanTeDrive xpost

eurogoon or something?

lol @ you guys taking the thread name so seriously

rolling proletkulture (xp)

clown me for taking a spin chart seriously, but you can’t clown for taking this thread title seriously. its serious bizness. we have to look at it every day

if you guys can’t decide on a name just call it rolling extra broccoli

i’m very protective of the thread title, and i don’t care if y’all make fun of me

^^

word

rolling sawce all over deej

I gotta say, as an outside observer ‘gun sounds’ was the first dud in a series of hits

gun sounds wasn’t really the best, but there was little to work with

it was always about lovably owning someone else’s version of LCD rap, not pointing out what the worst possible rap music is

we def had to “lovingly own” something that had like multiple Diplo mixes and shit.

I invented “autogoon” so show some fucking respect, you little pissant

huh?

gun sounds is a waka song; it could have been like rolling lex luger beats or something but that sounds dumber, gun sounds reflects the percussive masculinity of the whole thing imo, was a perfect continuation of the series

i do think its funny that the sanbox version is ‘rolling rap thread’ btw

feel like the hallmark of a good rap thread name is a little self-deprecation + humor like ringtone, fruity crazy stupid swag, etc.

gun sounds is p humorless

i agree w/ dayo

except that i still think “gun sounds” was okay

huh?

jordan’s pretending like snap was some thing only appreciated by pop ppl and atlanta ppl that we had to “lovingly embrace” but the hipste cognescenti was all over it. Would be like making this years thread about G-Side or something

gun sounds was worthless and was just one more thread for me to look at deej’s stupid gucci crush

dude, what hipsters do — whether they do or dont like this — has nothing to do w/ it. they can be ‘all over it’ or ignore it.

heartbroken rn

what year is this ? hes not even on my year end lists this yr

does whiney ever not talk in really tortured metaphors involving imaginary cultural signifiers

gun sounds was a great title fuiud

at least there was never a rolling ghetto house thread

that wouldn’t have made sense.

is anyone else going to post shit they liked this year?

you dont need to post your whole list but throw an artist out there or a couple youtubes or something

my fave rap album of 2011 was the Killer Mike

this isn’t on the boldy james tape, but it’s got a verse from him. its from Louie P Newton, who is on that track “Pumping Gas” i posted a bit upthread. It also features GLC.

i have to say, dealwithit.gif, when you told me that was your favorite rap record of the year i thought that was votes very much in character ha. i cant think of a more whiney-esque rapper this year

everyone else post their fave song from their fave rap album of the year

xpost, yeah, it’s got def that righteous indignation I like of like “a conscious dude who will rap about rockefeller drug laws and also punch you out” Those are my fave rappers: Ice Cube, Willie D, David Banner, etc...

“Ric Flair” is my favourite off the Killer Mike.

plus like in the year of chillwave softest serve pillow rap, it goes hard p much start to finish

takes me back to when rappers yelled

the Flying Lotus track is weird though

i didn’t like any rap this year

i liked some but it was a lot of canon stuff (e-40/quik/etc.) and mildly well received mixtapes (mouse/fiend/etc.), i’m hoping this week i can play catch up and do a lot of listening before i set my year-end lists in stone

quik, e-40, kendrick, shabazz palaces and maybe na’tee will be in my top ten, i think. most of my energy for digging into obscure shit has gone elsewhere this year, so it’s mostly been checking for people i already know i like.

furnace mane i would check out schoolboy q’s album if i were you its called ‘setbacks’

i think you would f/w it

I prefer it to Kendrick’s album

yeah its more my speed, but most of my reasons for preferring it are stylistic preference rather than like, stuff that sucks about the kendrick or something

kendrick will be in my top 10 — was shocked how much i grew to like it

takes me back to when rappers yelled

did you like the death grips mixtape? it was the highest placing ‘rap’ album on my eoy but i was a little embarrassed when no other rap music made our list

i really, really liked the main attrakionz mixtape as well as the spaceghostpurpp and kendrick lamar ones.

i’m sure only dealwithit.gif will like this but this was one of my fav tracks from one of my fav hip hop albums this year

Kendrick has stuff like the dude singing on “Ronald Reagan Era” which just takes me right out of it. Schoolboy Q has Jhene Aiko who’s much more agreeable

Jay Rock’s debut album coulda gone from a B+ to an A if it didn’t have such a watered down second half.

Haven’t heard that or Ab-Soul’s one. Anyone?

yeah the jay rock was better than i expected too

completely forgot it was this year but I did love the Dinner and a Movie by Brotha Lynch Hung.

err sorry Coathanga Strangla

Yeah, sandlamp, Death Grips is in my top 50

everything about kendrick lamar screams red flag to me, is there a song that might convince me i should not be so cynical about him

I hear there’s a tape version(!) but I haven’t been able to find it online

i’ve heard it. it’s aight.

i should check out jay rock and ab-soul’s shit tho.

what’s the over/under on whether TM103 comes out this year. I mean I know unlike prior drop dates that industry heads have heard what the supposed finished product is but at this stage I think it’d be kinda hilarious if he pushed it back again, kinda like rap’s Cartmanland

it weirds me out that those 2 guys work together because i’ve known a rapper from around here for years called ab rock (xpost)

i think TM103 is definitely dropping this month now

it’s definitely coming out — it’s definitely going to be his least good album (depending on how you feel about 102)

Yo Gotti’s joint is pushed back to 2012 now

yeah, “rigamortis” def

i care more about the t-pain & thicke albums coming out

I hear there’s a tape version(!) but I haven’t been able to find it online

i think that was promo only... but id be surprised if you couldnt swing a copy (lol at the morbsian nick btw)

some dude what dont you like abt kendrick lamar? adhd is my fave track off the mixtape
