John, 3 things:

1. I’ll be by around 5:40 tomorrow.

2. I think that insaney intricate wooden sculpture your father has is made for Japanese Buddhist alters.

3. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2117

1. WHiskey Dick plays at 6

2. I have no idea what you’re talking about

3. My head feels like a bell, ringing with the hungover sounds of pain.

1. That was the point. to see only the good band. Biotch.

2. He does......biotch.

3. ................bitch.

So, how was everyone’s weekend?

insane

Mine: also freaking insane. For one thing, I went to a party that had a ice sculpture... of two penguins. (Also a chocolate fountain and an open bar, all v. good.)

DAER ALMIGHTY JESUS, WHY YOU BRAEK CAR?

I was sick for most of it! YAY

Dan—I hope you feel better now. (Do you?) I totally dropped your Mom’s name at the party, as it was in HSTNGS. (The guy I was talking to was like, “oh yeah, she could have run for anything...”)

John—what’s wrong with your car? (The mental image of you walking to work in a blizzard—like Michael Landon in Little House on the Prairie—is really hard to resist here, but I’m trying.)

WOAH SONNED IN A TANK BEEF

(all-morning training session simultaneously suck and rule, btw)

my stomach has been giving me grief since last night. was it the dinner I made?

Sam—feel better. It wasn’t the dinner you made. It was GERMS. (Disclaimer: diagnosis might be completely wrong.) Dan—I hope you’re better!

J. has a cold and she seems to have croup. This is the conversation I woke up to, for your entertainment:

J: Mom! I had a waffle for breakfast and I sneezed and I coughed and goop came out of my NOSE.

Me: (sympathetically) Oh, yuck!

J: No, COOL!

whiskey dick? did you guyses go to the BODOG BATTLE????

Yep. HOLY CRAP IT WAS AWFUL.

Whiskey dick was good though.

bodog was very interested in maps of norway participating in said battle.

they must’ve spammed like every band in the twin cities.

leroy smokes won i guess? they’ve been around for ever.

Okay, my Dad just called me to tell me that he sent me an email. Does anyone else’s parent still not quite grasp the notion of email?

Dude, SaILo got a MySpace message about that.

I deleted it...

I mean, we wouldn’t have gotten in, wouldn’t have made it to the air, wouldn’t have won, and wouldn’t have gotten paid(they’d probably pull us off the stage once Al3X started talking about giving everyone AIDS).

In any case, EVERYONE but Whiskey Dick was AWEFUL.

13th Step has a FOLLOWING?

ONE CHORD BULLSHIT with UGLY UGLY people.

The band oafter that was LITERALLY one chord bullshit with a plastic diggerydoo player.

That’s when rahb and I left.

I think “Filthy Geeze Handyman sounds better.

But now I present happy kitty time.

ok. NOW I present happy kitty time:

I truly hope no one here has been turned into a human popsicle. It’s cold out there.

ugh. . .so don’t want to be at work. still teary and just, flat.

about to leave for three straight hours of meetings with my most favoritest clients in the world. (previous statement might be sarcastic)

please shoot me.

I’m so sorry Sam. The whole situatin just sucks. I hope your “favorite” clients dodged out on you...

my two meetings actually went very well. I’m tremendously pleased as I needed some goodness today.

Hello everyone...sorry I’ve been MIA of late, been fixing cars and doing mod battle on IMM. Hows tricks?

Apologies also for my MIA but that’s about to be rectified BIGSTYLE as am home for three weeks in one week’s time.

Sam—glad your meetings went so well! What a great suprise!

John—how’s your car doing? Did you have your finger re-attached?

Suzy—YAY, you’re coming HOME!!! (Christ, it’s cold, though.)

My car is much better. Unfortunately, due to the cost of replacing the radiator, Christmas is cancelled. BLARGH.

Ugh, I’m sorry. That sucks. MONEY sucks (at least when you have less than you need. Or want.) All that being said, I think you will still come up with some Christmas.

Case in point: the year A. and I moved into an actual house, he switched jobs—and there was a month or so when we didn’t have enough money to do anything but pay the mortgage payment. In December. Oh yeah, and we had a new baby, too! We still had Christmas, though—and I don’t think we used credit cards, either... You just have to get a little more creative. And you can do that for sure, if anyone can. And that’s the end of my pep talk.

Am planning the whole packing business. HOW COLD?

It’s currently 7 degrees in Northfield. Last night A. came to bed and said that the temp had dropped from 12 degrees to zero pretty quickly. When I was outside in St. Paul at about 10 pm, the wind sucked, too. So it could be colder... but it’s still pretty cold already.

Pack LAYERS!

No, I’m paid in pounds sterling so the mission is BUY LAYERS innit—exchange pretty much two bucks to the pound. Vintage emporia of MN, PHEAR ME.

Okay, just wear layers here and bring an empty suitcase to take back. (Also, you have made me jealous. But still, yay!)

I was in the mood to clean out my closet. On one shelf, I found, amongst other things:

1. West Side Story t-shirt (yes, from high school)

2. the ND t-shirt I brought home from Indiana with the legend “SEX KILLS” on the front and “...so come to Notre Dame and live forever” on the back

3. t-shirt from Lollapalooza... the first one.

4. a hideous pair of pajamas that A. says I “used to wear in college”

I’m actually afraid to go to the next shelf now.

Minneapolis is a pox on the planet earth and should be wiped out at all costs.

One hour driving in circles and not one open parking space. Spaces that SHOULD be parking spaces are blocked by ....A DOOR.

A fucking DOOR.

THAT is why that city once had(still does have?) the highest per-capita murders.

45 minutes into that I was ready to kill anyone.

HATE.

On the streets of Minneapolis I slowly build a deep-seated hatred of all things around me until I’d prefer a multi-kiloton device to blast everything(FUCKING STREETS THAT FORCE YOU TO GO PLACES YOU DON’T WANT TO) into a fine mist than to spend other minute there.

St. Paul generally fills me with a soothing peaceful feeling, but Grand Ave. seems to want to be Minneapolis really bad. “Fuck you! You’ll never park! HAHAHAHA! Another stop light!!! Want to do something here? TOO BAD! Some guy is stopping you from going to your favorite restaraunt!! AND IT’S HIS JOB!!!”

But it’s still better than Minneapolis.

Why? Because YOU CAN LEAVE GRAND AVE.

I can’t get out of Minneapolis(save the city center after midnight) in under 30 minutes.

WANT TO GET TO THE HIGHWAY!?? TOO BAD! THIS ROAD SUDDENLY CURVES!! Now...3 ONE WAY STREETS THAT FORCE YOU TO GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME OR GO FURTHER AWAY FROM YOUR GOAL!!!”

In St. Paul, there are at least 2 ways to get anywhere.

In Minneapolis there’s one.

Then you don’t get to park.

DOOM.

I feel better now.

I can handle Grand Avenue (parking is another matter entirely) and some parts of St. Paul. And even some sections of Mpls. But downtown Mpls... no. And you kind of hit on why. I can get in, but I can’t get back out. I don’t care how great a place is, I want to get home someday!

Oh, and parades make me hate Christmas, and always have.

“Hey, Adam, your sisters sitting on a float, freezing her ass off because she happens to be in some group, or choir or something. Let’s go freeze our asses off, too.”

“........are you serious?”

That’s why I couldn’t park.

or drive

or go 5 minutes without talking myself down from aother panic attack.

A goddamned parade.

“Come on, kids! I want to feel like I’m giving you special memories because I’ve long forgotten how uncomfortable I was at these events. Let’s go look at christmas lights that aren’t as well done as the guys down the street! The best part!? You don’t have(get) to move!”

I’m gonna eat a roast beef sandwich and take some calcium.

Maybe my bloodlust will settle down.

I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL JAPANESE CHRISTMAS.

ONE WEEK OF SHOPPING.

1.5 DAYS OF CELEBRATION.

IT’S OK TO GET DRUNK AT THE PARTY...WITH YOUR FAMILY.

NO (serious) CHRISTIANS TO FUCK THINGS UP.

Joyous YULEtide, everyone.

I wish I had some fucking booze right about now.

(I’d think I was chemically imbalanced with the number of people that have been pissing me off, but none of my friends are annoying me, nor are the people I meet at asian restaraunts, homes, or parties. I think I hate Americans...and the swedish. Never met a swede I liked. Sorry. CUlture clash)

HAY GUYS

GUESS WHO’S PLAYING A HOUSE PARTY TONIGHT?

Yay Dan! Good luck!!!

I think that trumps my evening plans of taking a lab practical test and then going out to dinner with D34n and R0bb13...

So Dan, we expect you to report back with how it went, okay?

OR

?

Perhaps both.

I expect no less from you.

good luck dan!

maps o norway is playing tonight as well...i’ll dedicate a pet shot boys cover to u!

yay

Best of luck to the Maps of Norway tonight as well, of course!

I would have gone, but my family is, like...nuts.

Plus until I sell these:

I’m kinda broke.

Are my prices great? Nah, but I know two things: they work perfectly, and I have great customer service policies.

Your auctions look great, but I have no clue about prices (soooo not my area).

I’m waiting with bated breath to hear about Dan’s house party gig last night!

HOW DO I SHOT 5:30 AM

Well, then! That sounds successful. I think...

I am now on a mad mission to find that photo I told you about in my email. I can’t find the album it’s in. But I know it’s here somewhere!

I try to amke good aution-ness.

The problem with me doing an electronics auction is electronics work one way.

All I can talk about is what’s wrong with it, then say “everything else works correctly”

if it doesn’t work right, it basically doesn’t WORk...

if it doesn’t work right, it basically doesn’t WORk...

There’s my problem with electronics, right there! Cuz I’m too clueless to figure out fixes.

Dan, I found the picture. It’s... uh... contrast-y.

Monday morning silliness: A. made a movie of him and the kids decorating the tree.

http://homepage.mac.com/arobinso/.Movies/xmas.mp4

Also, a photo of J. and I on our way to a holiday party:

I decorated one of our CACTUSES yesterday. It’s actually kind of sad looking ’cause he’s a little guy and the ornaments are a bit too much. I’ll post a picture when I put some more presents under it.

Today’s my birfday and I’m in a suprisingly good mood. I think it might just be the coffee though since I’m normally debbie downer about celebratory type things.

Happy birthday Sam! I hope it continues to be a good day for you. :)

I can’t wait to see your Christmas cactus!

HAY HASTINGS PEOPLE

I FOUND R4CH3L KL3FFM4N ON MYSPACE

Yes—THANK YOU! The great part is that she lives really close to me. Also, she teaches at the School for the Deaf, which I kind of worship her for. At any rate, we exchanged emails yesterday...

Dan, are you aware of the Showtime series Dexter? (Apparently it is based on a series of books...)

Yes, I am! I haven’t seen it yet but I know about it. I am kind of psyched that my self-chosen high school nickname is now associated with a fictional serial killer.

Ha, yeah. I read a review of the series in The New Yorker and immediately thought of you!

I am really really really really really trying to be virtuous and study. I am not succeeding.

1. I am cold.

2. I am bored.

3. I am procrastinating.

That is all.

1. I’m comfortable.

2. cosign

3. MOFO COSIGN

Dan, I don’t suppose we can dress you up like me and have you take my test tomorrow night. Someone might catch on, huh.

Yeah, esp. when you fail it horrifically because all of the questions have been answered “BOOOBIES! hahahahahahaha”

Well, that might be the right answer on one or two questions, I guess. (I think my prof might be looking for “breast,” though... it’s important to use proper terms in this class.)

all day, in between working on my dumb php/mysql issue, I’ve been trying to find this hat for G. It’s a black-on-black Texas hat we saw Bun B wearing on 106&Park. He’s talked about it constantly since then but I can’t find it anywhere, only one with a Bevo head. grrr! why must Tuesday be so frustrating?

I hate trying to find things like that... good luck. (Although I have to tell you that my husband had a favorite hat—it was just a baseball cap—that he lost. I went out of my way and located another one. He lost that one, too! He is not getting more hats from me.)

Tuesday is frustrating. You’re right. Why isn’t it Friday yet.

G also loses hats. But I would like for him to unwrap this one so I could be the MOST AWESOME XMAS GIFT FINDER EVAH! *sniff*

Tues. esp sux b/c yesterday was happy birthday funday and now it’s back to regular programming. bah.

I’ve given up on both frustrations and am now playing bookworm.

I want to play bookworm! (I just wrested the book about the Julie/Julia Project away from my best friend. I loved that blog...)

Sam, does it help your post-birthday let-down to have the holidays coming up, or does that make it worse?

As for the hat, I meant to amaze A. by giving it to him as a Father’s Day present, but that was the day I fell and broke my wrist and shattered my elbow, so he didn’t get it until I was out of the hospital. I think that kind of ruined the impact of “what a cool present!”

Just remember the immortal advice from War of the Roses: cat people should marry cat people, and dog people should marry dog people.

what if your both?

Sara, my birthday generally gets lost in the xmas rush. but then I don’t know any different really.

wed. be boring.

If you’re both, you can marry anybody. As long as they aren’t, say, iguana people. I really recommend staying away from them.

I’m sorry your birthday gets lost in the Xmas rush, Sam. I know several people with the same problem. My SIL’s birthday is the 26th of this month, and we try to make a big deal of it, but...

My Wednesday will involve last minute studying for tonight’s final; afterward my class is going out together. I have some crazy test anxiety going on; I’ve had some weird dreams the last two nights. (Including one where I was trying to get into the high school scene shop door and M1k3 H0pk1ns was there. He apologized to me for “carrots.” No idea what that means. The rest of the dreams were even weirder.)

iguana people. I really recommend staying away from them.

I used to own an iguana *sniff*. He ran away when we were moving into our house and G. won’t let me get another b/c he shit everywhere.

I’m def. a cat person but love our doggies too.

I’ve also been having very vivid dreams lately too. Is it something cosmic going on?

Aw, poor iguana. But he does sound like he was kind of a disastrous house pet.

I’m a cat person; although I like dogs, I find them kind of overwhelming. My husband is both, but he’s also allergic to dogs. Plus just keeping up with the two cats and the kids is more than we can handle!

Hmmm, vivid dreams. Maybe it’s the MOON.

the iguana was a trip. I got him accidentally off a student who was feeding him iceberg lettuce.

They are a pain to own. High-maintence diet and special lighting needs. And mine hated me. Always scratching and biting. Liked G better. Little bastard.

His name was Chingy. When I first got him an Ilx0r made a good but frightening photoshop of his namesake with a lizard face. I think it got lost when my computer crashed.

You are not convincing me that people should marry iguana owners! On the other hand, they do sound crazily entertaining.

I was not a true reptile person as I said I stumbled into the ownership. (and obv. I was not a very good one.) I’m not sure what herpiphiles (?) might be like. Probably like renassaince fairs.

I’m not sure I’ve ever met one myself. My SIL’s husband used to try to persuade her that they should get one. He’s funny, but incredibly prickly. He once complained about Renaissance Fairs not being enough like the actual Renaissance.

I’m not sure I’ve ever met one myself.

Yes you have! L34h H3b3rt and N4t4l13 L0v3j0y, for starters!

Dan, I demand to know how you remember this kind of detail. You’re starting to scare me.

S-K-I-L-L-S

More precision, plz.

I think everyone knows that my secret to appearing to have a great memory is that I write a lot of shit down. That combined with some degree of photographic memory.

My memories of L34h have nothing to do with iguanas at all. Probably because she was—of course—in dance with me.

Strongest memory of L.H.: This must have been my junior/L34h’s sophomore year, because that was the year we did Les Sylphides. We had these tiny white leotard costumes with spaghetti straps; there was no real way to wear a bra underneath them. L34h came out of the girl’s dressing room and into the makeup room and announced, “What is the first thing you see in this costume? NIPS!!!”

I only like pets that can be used as food if the need arises. Thus, iguanas are a poor option. Before Jaymcdan provides information about the pet tarantula at my family estate, that belonged to my father.

What John isn’t saying: he ate the tarantula as a midnight snack, thinking it was a cookie. Not to worry, his father forgave him. Eventually.

(Also, that tarantula lived in your room, John. You can’t deny that Muffin was yours!)

Her name was Winnie, named after my paternal grandmother. Dad and her didn’t really get along.

L34h didn’t have an iguana; she had a boa constrictor. Still a reptile, though. She also had a ferret.

I knew I should have made the “jaymcdan” joke before John could.

Ha ha, I remember that your Dad called her “Winnie,” but I mis-remembered why.

Alex came home from the library last night with a book called Spiderology and now he wants a pet wolf spider. You can imagine my thoughts on that.

Sam—EW! (although alligator is pretty good... tastes like chicken).

L34h had a boa constrictor?! And a ferret?!!!! Wow.

I’ve smelled ferrets. No fucking way I’m eating one of those things.

Well, I’m sure they’d be better cooked. Er, not that I’m encouraging you to eat one.

“Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Now, remove the stink oil sack gland, and set aside...”

I so look forward to your future life as a cookbook author.

Remember, her dad was a KEEEEERAZY biology teacher! They had all kinds of bizarre, fucked-up pets. (I think they had a tarantula at one point, too.)

Appropos of nothing:

Construction

(xpost) Ha, I knew Mr. H for years before he was my bio teacher; I know he was “KEEEEERAZY.” 4nn3 was my dance teacher since 6th grade; plus I took a year from her in second grade or so. All I remember about their pets, though, is that Mr. H once had a—squirrel? or raccoon?—named Rocky.

Also, he offered my advanced bio class extra credit for beheading roadkill of various sorts, cleaning it up and bringing in the skull. I was willing to go pretty far for biology class, but even I had to draw the line there.

So John, who is that little girl? She looks kind of like you. Same expression on her face.
