I understand, Dan. I’m just still scarred from “Armageddon” and “Men In Black 2”.

Also, yeah, I mostly find Scientologists funny. Of course, my views on religion are...odd.

I prefer to think of Flav as a strange dadaist experiment gone awry.

Also, my feelings on Hitch would be the same if it starred ANYONE, so it isn’t really an attack on Will.

If all of scientology views psychiatry the way tom cruise does then I find them EVIL!

Now, if you believed that you could regress your memory to the point of conception, you’d hate psychiatrists too.

Of course, the reason for your hatred would be that you’re a FUCKING NUTJOB who believes absurd, anti-scientific claptrap.

maybe if I believed we all orignated from volcano-ailens, yes I would hate modern medicine.

Is Will Smith in Armageddon? (With Bruce Willis?—or am I thinking of the wrong movie?)

I think the Scientologists are idiotically entertaining. But that’s because I don’t take them seriously. (And after Tom Cruise’s ass-hat-itude about post-mortem depression, it’s easy to see why...)

I am reasonably certain that Will Smith is neither Michael Clarke Duncan nor Keith David and therefore wasn’t in “Armageddon”.

“Independence Day” will get an eternal free pass from me for A) having Vivica A. Fox gyrate around a stripper pole in her first scene; and B) blowing up Harry Connick Jr.

Also, where are you getting your “Will is a Scientologist” info? This is the closest I can come up with:

Are you religious—and have you ever been approached by the Church of Scientology?
donicello, Vancouver, BC

I’ve probably read 95% of the words in the Bible. Probably 60% of the Torah. 70% of the Koran. And the thing that is so amazing to me is how everybody, in essence, believes the same thing. I just can’t understand how we get from such similar beliefs to murdering one another. My beliefs are that individuals have to create relationships with God. You can’t listen to what the preacher says—you have to read the Bible yourself and make your interpretation. I’m good friends with Tom Cruise and I just think a lot of the ideas in Scientology are brilliant and revolutionary and non-religious.

Whoops. Not “Armageddon.” “Independence Day”.

Somehow I mixed up my AMERICA NUMBER ONE FUCK YOU SPACE epics.

This is all reminding me that I never saw Battlefield Earth. It’s sad to me that MST3K didn’t have a shot at that. Maybe the Rifftrax people will do that... hope hope...

xpost

Independence Day is just bad*. But I do like Dan’s reasons for giving it a pass. Dan, U R funny.

*One of the few things I agree with my sister-in-law’s husband on: tearing that movie apart.

I will always remember Armageddon as the movie where Liv Tyler gets molested by Ben Affleck while Aerosmith supplies the soundtrack.

WAY TO GO, DAD!

Strictly speaking, “Independence Day” was an APPLE NUMBER ONE FUCK YOU SPACE (PS WOMEN THINK JEFF GOLDBLUM IS HOT ERGO WOMEN BE CRAZY) epic.

post-mortem depression

Er, I mean post-PARTUM depression... I think pretty much everyone agrees about post-mortem depression.

(It was also a STRIPPER GOTS MOXIE!!! epic)

Im good friends with Tom Cruise and I just think a lot of the ideas in Scientology are brilliant and revolutionary and non-religious.

Just from that, that’s why I asked, I wasn’t sure. I just have heard Jada standing up for Tomkat alot.

I like Independance Day. I always cry.

I stand up for my batshit crazy friends all the time, that doesn’t also make me batshit crazy! (There are a myriad of other reasons why I am batshit crazy.)

I have only seen bits of the scene John describes above. Hilarious! (Well, ate least when MST3K supplies commentary.)

Jeff Goldblum is hot in that weird “he’s a loose cannon” kind of way.

Also in that weird “he looks like a sheepdog fucked a rhesus monkey” way?

I was asking Dan! I don’t know!

But still I have to question anyone who’s close friend with Tom Cruise (I really hate the guy in case you can’t tell.)

Dan, you slay me. I’m not saying he’s handsome. Just that some women like crazy men.

Here’s the link to the MST3K/Armageddon clip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7uc00E4OME

Oh, Tom Cruise a total douche; you won’t get any argument from me there. I just really admire Will Smith for having the guts to follow his artistic talent rather than his academic talent.

Sara, by the logic you are presenting, women should REALLY be throwing their panties at HOWIE MANDEL. I really hope that is not the case.

Howie Mandel... no. Too far in the direction of “completely dorky.” Also, I’m sorry to be the one to have to tell you this, but there is no logic involved in the subject of which you speak.

WAHT

I kind of think he’s cute too.

but not howie mandel. no way.

LOL. Still... yeah, it’s the loose cannon thing. He’s funny and he’s crazy. I’m sorry, some of us like that.

See also: my friend who loves teh super-old guys (the youngest star I remember her having a crush on was Martin Sheen. We had a Martin Sheen film festival once!). Also, my insane crush on the guy who plays Hurley on LOST (Jorge Garcia). Okay, I won’t lie and say I don’t think Naveen Andrews is hotter, but... still, I’m half in love with Hurley!

lost is pretty yummy. . .sayeed, sawyer, ana-lucia. hurley, hmm.

You are so right. Every one of the actors is eye candy. Ugh, except the guy who plays Jack. I hate his hair and his character.

I have to say, though, that I think the woman who plays Sun is more attractive than Ana-Lucia. (Also, the guy who plays Sun’s husband = super hot.)

Sun = PHWOAR

ana-lucia became pretty one-diminsonal there near the end. but when she was first introduced she was definitely right up my alley.

Seriously, when the least attractive woman on your show is CLAIRE, you’ve got a show full of massively attractive women.

(Yeah, I said Rose is more attractive than Claire.)

Claire is cute, but boring (and blonde, and we all know I don’t love the blondes).

Also, every time I see her, I hear “Maybe the dingoes stole your bahy-bee” in my head...

I really missed a golden opportunity to coin the phrase “C on Tylers” up there.

It’s never too late, I guess.

Every famous person who’s joined scientology that I know of has slowly/quickly lost whatever mind they had to begin with.

They were usually egoticital and arrogant to begin with, and that just explodes at a certain point after they get all scientolog-y.

Hence: “Battlefield Earth.”

“Geee, no one will make this piece of shit L Ron Hubbard novel, even though somehow I think he’s a genius. I guess I’ll make the whole thing myself...and star in it...and suck at it...”

Just a tad. No offense.

People have died everywhere. In Hastings it just happens with an extra special flair.

HAY GUYS

http://www.myspace.com/uhfband

WE GOT PICTURE + NEW SONGZ

I love how, in the photo, you look like a scary badass guy.

Also love “Personal Jesus.”

Also, I just ordered a bunch of stuff for A. for Xmas. So at least I’ll have something for St. Nicholas Day... one of the things I ordered is a c.d. that he’s totally unfamiliar with (as am I, actually), but I thought it would be fun. (Actually, Dan, this is your fault since it is a band that you mentioned liking... and I dimly remembered the name—I listened to some clips at iTunes and think it will work.)

Seriously, Dan, why don’t you smile in your UHF photo? I’m afraid of you now!

i had no idea you were in a band, dan.

We had a smiling photo! I don’t know what happened to it.

The band kind of spontaneously formed last year when a bunch of my coworkers realized that enough of us were musicians on the side that we could put together a credible band. We dicked around for about 6 months and then decided to pursue it as a serious side hobby. We actually just put out our initial feelers for opening gigs this week!

Was the band Dan suggested “Foetus”, by chance?

COUGH UP THE INFO ROBINSON, WE ARE CURIOUS.

“Creeping...me...out.

Just a tad. No offense.”

I’m playing that game because of the uncomfortable laugh.

Thing is, by the end of that series my uncomfortable laugh had grow into I full-on stomach-ache-inducing choking laugh.

Why? Because in the last scene, when there’s this FUCKIGN ABOUT TIME love confession, A HUGE (like 10 feet tall, each one 3 feet wide) bouquet of white lilies bloom behind them, backlit, I think a stained glass window is involved in that imagery, and I DON’T think there was actually one in that room.

THAT is the moment I knew the show’s makers either had the best, or NO sense of humour.

That’s the one anime I’m making sure to buy. Might get the books if they have furigana.

I feel good.

First good night’s sleep in 2 weeks.

Long story. You don’t wanna hear about it.(I dooz that enoughs)

Suffice it to say I just bid on some used Juzu to hang in my room.

No, John, not Foetus. (Can you sort out for me the difference between “Foetus” and “Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel,” btw? Are they even related? Another nagging question that I’ve not gotten around to asking.)

I chose a random Shriekback c.d. That should mystify him. (After 13 or 14 Christmases, it is hard to conjure up a total surprise.)

They are the same band; every album was released under a different name that contained the word “Foetus”.

that “o” really bothers me.

I just assume they are British, and thus spell slightly differently. Of course, I have no idea here. (Also—thanks Dan!)

Transplanted NYC Aussie via London, actually.

No wonder they spell it like that!

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve heard them since John showed up with a tape about 100 years ago. I don’t remember disliking it, though. Just thinking, “what the hell kind of name is that?!” But it’s memorable.

You know it is a sad day when your friend’s 11 year old daughter is taller than you are. Unfair!

what the hell is going on

HSTNGS: more like Wastings!

...i think that when i get home i am going to get lit and head to the island! which, btw, is where we had our 5 year reunion. discus.

Let’s see, what is going on... it’s not very cold out. John just finished his novel (as in writing one). Ned is likely close on his heels. I went Xmas shopping again and found a weird item for my husband’s stocking (it’s an “Office Voodoo Kit;” I almost bought one for FB, too, since he’s so cagey about what he actually does for a living). Dan is still Dan (allegedly).

What is up in MT? How’s orgo? What is up?

Montana: totally freezing

Orgo: took my lab final today, aced it. did not ace my test from over a week ago. :-/

What is up: my esteem for my roommate (he cleaned the kitchen), my blood alcohol level (just opened wine).

Minnesota—not as cold as you’d expect (now I’ve cursed it, though).

Orgo—will always suck—glad you aced the lab final, though. I always found the labs easier than the theory. Anatomy, though, both are easy. (Also, I talked to my ex-who-is-applying-to-medical-school today. Bizarre conversation. But at least he didn’t start with the “why aren’t you going to med school” thing again.)

I’m envying your wine. I am going to have some chocolate and a glass of milk. My intention is to go to bed early and get up early to lift weights and then study for my lab quiz. (My damn final isn’t until Dec. 13). An exciting (but sadly sober) evening awaits me!

HAY GUYS

GUESS WHOSE BAND GOT BOOKED FOR TWO HEADLINING GIGS WITHIN TWO DAYS OF SENDING OUT PRESS KITS????

Oh, I hope it’s not mine. I’m awfully busy these days since you found me an opera-singing wife/pastor.

Er, I mean CONGRATULATIONS!

haha. cool deal dan.

i’m sneezing my head off over here. either i’ve got a mad cold or have developed an allergy to mySQL databases.

One hour ‘till home. .. the weatherman says I’ll probably have to wear a coat tomorrow. madness!

Yikes, sorry to hear about your possible illness.

Have to wear a coat tomorrow, huh. Terrible! ;)

It is 10 degrees Fahrenheit right now. My feet refuse to get warm. I am NOT READY FOR THIS!

Windy here. And cold. Hmm.

God, the wind makes it all worse, doesn’t it. Sigh.

Wait, wasn’t it just really warm in L.A.?

I’m ready for everything.

I just don’t like alot of it.

You’re about ten steps ahead of me, then.

HI DERE IT IS 60 DEGREES IN BOSSTOWN

It’s supposed to get down to freezing today for the first time. Up until last night we were hitting 78–80 every afternoon.

boo cold.

Wow. Dan, I’ve never wanted to strangle you more than I do right now.

I went to bed last night with wool socks on (that I knitted myself!), plus I took two of the cornbags (essentially fabric with feed corn sewn in that you heat in the microwave) with me.

Dan, I will not be sewing you and J031 cornbags because YOU DON’T NEED THEM.

Sam—you get a bit of sympathy because Texans shouldn’t have to deal with that weather. It’s the SOUTH.

do I get a cornbag?

argh, forecast for noon today:

Likely Light Rain Showers , Likely Light Freezing Rain

also this guy:

ihttp://icons-aa.wunderground.com/graphics/conds/sleet.GIF

argh! what about my lunch? :(

do I get a cornbag?

Sure! Light freezing rain always earns a cornbag. (They sound like the dorkiest thing, but they are awesome. You can heat them up and stick them in your bed—or in your coat if you’re going outside!)

we use rice bags on the Patrol!

it is ten degrees here. warmer than yesterday!

Rice works also! But I have a huge thing of feed corn to use up in my office, so...

Hope you are staying warm, gbx. I am picturing you skiing down a mountain with frostbitten toes (and there’s a thought balloon with the structure of benzene in this mental image, too...).

I stuff my shirt with newspaper and oily rags.

As if that was a secret.

howdy hastings!

how’s it going?

it’s cold out.

i watched half of cars last night, seems pretty good.

The backgrounds are the best.

COCAINE.

Hahahahaha our guitarist is trying to figure out how he can blow off his daughter’s birthday for our January gig. PRIORITIES!

Have you suggested giving her up for adoption?

yeah, conflicts like this are likely to keep cropping up

BAND MAN CAN HAFF NO CHILDERNS.

I just got back from taking my kids to see Santa. I’d be willing to share them with any of you, assuming you’d take them for the next few days.

I’m not going to work today. I feel like ass and it is far too cold to venture out when you’re coughing your head off/can’t breathe.

slacker!

Feel better, Sam, and stay warm if you can. It is REALLY cold up here this morning and I need to drive J. to preschool shortly. I’m not looking forward to it!

it is 32 here! that’s pretty damn frigid for us.

I went back to bed for awhile and am now drinking coffee. good.

I just replaced a headlight on my car, and I believe that one of my fingers fell of in the process.

HI DERE IT IS 64 DEGREES HERE

ALSO I AM PUKING ;_;

sick too?

I’m in my sewing room with a space heater and knee high socks. quite cozy.

now only if I could breathe. . .

Dan, ugh, so sorry you’re sick. Puking is the worst.

John, I hope you kept the finger; perhaps it can be gently heated and then re-attached.

I’m warm because I took a shower. But now my hair is wet and I have to go pick J. back up. Maybe it’s finally time to buy a hair dryer, huh.

Also, a friend just sent me this link with the message “for the geek in your life....” http://www.thinkgeek.com/ Check out the page with caffeine-related gifts. I don’t know if A. would go for caffeine-infused soap, though...

DAN, NO MAS TEQUILA!

Sorry.

It’s not that much later in the day in Boston, John.

Ha ha, so I mentioned thinkgeek.com to A. over lunch. What does he tell me? “Oh yeah, I have a wish list there!”

God, I wish it was tequila and not some stupid stomach bug that I’ve been battling all week. Nausea + diarrhea = ew.

Yikes, that is the worst. Sorry Dan. So far as I know, all you can do is wait it out and try to stay hydrated.

Stay warm, get healthy, and happy weekends to all...

I have made BARS. PHEAR ME!

Also I have obtained the new Y: The Last Man graphic novel.

AND the Will Smith talk from the past week reminded me of something: A. made a mix tape for me when we were first going out that includes, “Then She Bit Me” (DJ Jazzy Jeff, etc.) To this day, if I say anything like, “I’m going to run to the bathroom,” A. will say, “Psyche! I was drafted!”
