I liked it. Flashbacks to events that never really happened are cool with me. Sad that Claire won’t die although Charlie getting it is a small consolation.

Totally. I was all sorts of impressed that a simple generic beep on a TEEVEE SHOW could freak me the hell out the second I heard it.

What if L O S T is, in fact, a Dharma initiative psych experiment itself?

Actually I really felt like it was closer to first season LOST than any episode since the, uh, first season. xxxpost

My theory is that Desmond’s mind is going between two timelines—the one that started after the failsafe was hit started in the past, but actually moves in jumps and starts, so it’s now a little bit into the future. Poor Desmond. :(

i feel like desmond was sent back along his own timeline, which is unchangeable, as is his future, and the island’s

but simply being sent back in time doesn’t really explain knowing the future.

FAAAATEEEE.

his timeline is no longer linear

therefore he keeps getting flashbacks to different points in time, whether they be past or future

I can buy that!

But he definitely isn’t PHYSICALLY time-traveling, so the issue of the number of timelines is kind of moot anyway, eh?

he is not physically time-travelling, but his memory has somehow been freed some the constraints of linear time

so there are two kinds of lost fans then. stoners who talk philosophy when they are stoned and stoners who just stare blankly at the t.v. when they are stoned? MORE FISH TREATS PLEASE.

Whoa this episode wtf?

Fuck Claire not dying. I’d rather her than Charlie (HIERONYMUS PACE!), who at least occasionally gets some good zings. Also, hobbitses.

I still don’t get the Claire-hate. She’s a cutie! Is there something loathsome in her diction that my American tin-ear can’t pick up?

I think it’s the accent.

Guys, Charlie’s not dying. No way. Desmond CAN change fate, or else they wouldn’t have played that damned Mamas and the Papas song TWICE.

And Beth OTM—you can ask my roommate, I really did say to him (during scene when she thanked Desmond for saving her) “jesus I forgot how cute Claire is!”.

where do you think libby fits in with the boat?

she gives/sells it to him right? I guess the only question is who sent her to keep Desmond on the correct fate-path. Maybe Libby was some kind of Dharma manipulator, doing their dirty work in the “real world” — nudging Desmond in the right direction, keeping an eye on Hurley in the psych ward ....

Desmond CAN change fate, or else they wouldn’t have played that damned Mamas and the Papas song TWICE.

but he didn’t change fate, the universe “course corrected” until he got to the cricket bat

another more literal course correction was that the island wouldn’t let him leave on his boat, he sailed around in circles

re: claire

Not the accent so much (“MOY BOY-BEEE!”) these days. But really, besides giving birth to Aaron, she’s probably the most pointless main character and really should be demoted to Rose/Bernard status. But I also think it’s a Claire and Charlie thing—on their own, they’re ok, but together, blegh.

By the way, if you google Charlie Hieronymus Pace, the first result gets you an Italian biography of Hieronymus Bosch, translated by one Claire Pace.

one thing is still bugging me about last week’s episode and the Tom commment people were talking about — “ever since the sky turned purple” their communications are down, or they can’t get off the island anymore, or something

he was implying that if not for that event they would have sent Ben to a real-world clinic for surgery

but that doesn’t really jibe with Ben saying they had targeted Jack bc of his surgical skillz .... they already had Jack in a hood when the sky turned purple

My guess is that island-born Ben would rather not leave for medical assistance. So they sought out Jack’s help, but were keeping the off-island option as a last resort (like if Dr. Douchebag chose not to cooperate). But then... PURPLE SKY!

i feel like desmond was sent back along his own timeline, which is unchangeable

just a thought but was Charlie in the flashback really Charlie? if so it was a Charlie who never got famous (or else he would have been all YEAH YOU KNOW ME FROM DRIVESHAFT, BROTHA)

so some aspects of the past maybe are changeable?

although I think I agree that he didn’t physically time-travel

he is not physically time-travelling, but his memory has somehow been freed some the constraints of linear time

except ehn he gets concussions, maybe?

xpost: i think it was before driveshaft got popular.

xpost: i think it was before driveshaft got popular.

yeah I guess that’s right ... I forgot how the old woman said desmond’s boat race was still “a few short years” away

k i just watched episode 8. i haven’t read the thread yet because i just wanted to immediately post here to say HOLY FUCKING SHIT. SRSLY.

back later.

k my girlfriend just ridiculed my pensive “post-LOST thinking expression” after i spent a couple of minutes rubbing my temples. i feel she is somewhat underestimating my obsession.

i’m slow here,

was jewelry-store-mistress-of-time in “next week on lost”?

do people in scotland really say “brotha” all the time? I like Desmond but it seems kinda fakey.

xpost Yeah, I thought I saw her in there, too.

do people in scotland really say “brotha” all the time? I like Desmond but it seems kinda fakey.

I think it’s true, I’ve read the glasgow thread.

I say “Brotha” all the time. But only when impersonating Desmond. Which is all the time. Conversations in our house = “do you want to watch L O S T now, brotha” “yes, brotha”, etc.

(I clicked on this thread by accident as I haven’t watched this week’s yet, but I caught that while scrolling down)

that’s a risky click

This episode totally ruled. I loved that so much of it was devoted to the “flashback.”

Has the Desmond Hume—John Locke -philosopher point been made? Not that it means anything. To me.

I didn’t love this episode—still like the thread(s) better!

I found it weird that Desmond wouldn’t react more when red shoe guy got smushed RIGHT NEXT TO HIM!

That suspension of disbelief was too much for me.

was jewelry-store-mistress-of-time in “next week on lost”?

I thought that too, but jeweler time cop lady actress (Fionula Flanagen) isn’t on next week’s guest star roster (but Alex, Karl, and Tom are).

Has the Desmond Hume—John Locke -philosopher point been made?

somebody mentioned it at some point I’m sure

there was also a Burke last week

not sure it means much beyond “zomg, questions of free will and causation”

Drunk Hurley’s “DUDE!” was his best utterance of the word since ever.

totally! possibly best uttered word of the past several episodes

so there are two kinds of lost fans then. stoners who talk philosophy when they are stoned and stoners who just stare blankly at the t.v. when they are stoned?

hand raised for former. totally into desmond’s non-linear time access, plus some multi-dimensional stuff too

re: claire—that really was the first time in a long time she’s looked cute and not been whiney

also, desmond, hottt

(Fionula Flanagen) isn’t on next week’s guest star roster (but Alex, Karl, and Tom are).

nicka, you are the wind beneath my wings.

I love how Dezzy’s been out of the hatch for, what, 2 weeks?, and he’s already the tannest one of them all.

young deezy

I didn’t find this episode that great. Then again lately all the shows have kind of disppointed me :(. Anyway, did anyone notice the dharma logo on dead guy’s red shoes? Or was I just hallucinating? I’m almost certain it was there, but what the fuck is it doing there?

Oh I didn’t see that! I was so stoked for having called yet another Wizard of Oz ref (right before he got crushed) I must’ve missed it.

I could put a screengrab up if I knew how. I’ve been looking at the guy’s shoes for a minute or so and I still can’t make up my mind as to whether there is a dharma logo or not :( Also, I’m quite sure that L O S T is the only tv show where I’ve rewinded and played the show in slow motion so to as to see a small detail and I feel like an idjut for doing so

big round of applause to the writers for such an accurate portrayal of London in an American Tv show FINALLY...

red phone box check

policeman in classic ‘tit’ helmet check

classic cars parked on every street check

pub landlord in shirt and tie check

combo of distant london landmarks suddenly close together (houses of pariament and er, greenwich foot tunnel?) check

angry man with CRICKET bat check

and yeah buskers always attract a crowd of 20 people esp. when it’s ‘wonderwall’. and the instant rain thing was mega lame.

fuckng loved it tho (altho it really wasn’t that revelatory)

bring on charlie death obv. (except he won’t die and this will persuade des to restore faith in the future, linda bellingham style)

filmed in downtown Honolulu, too! (with obvious bluescreen assistance)

they just do it to wind us up on purpose.

nice of them to get Dave Gahan in for the backdrop-photo scene tho

pretty confused about what is meant to really have happened to him during his flashback vs what he imagined. surely that old woman can’t have been real.

also, probably not significant, but the backdrop for the Dez/Penny photo is HNL.

i just realized blueski was being sarcastic : (

I love how Alan Fucking Dale makes such a big deal about the whisky, but then it turns out you can go drink it in in any old random pub.

...or beach.

Hah but that’s OBV the point!

nice of them to get Dave Gahan in for the backdrop-photo scene tho

OH ROFFLES

Wow... this was teh shit! Desmond is a winner! Best episode since whatever episode from season 1, no doubt. Stepping off the linear timeline was the best thing they could do. Truly warped, truly wonderful.

I also thought it was a great episode. I really like Charlie and I totally expect that something’s going to stand in the way of his death, leading to some sort of breakthrough for Desmond.

(That was brilliant about “Wonderwall,” Nick.)

does anyone else do a double take when they see posters for this film:

?????????????

I like how Claire took our advice and cut her bangs herself on the island.

Dharma shark tried to bite her face off when she was face-down underwater, but was still weak from being shot by Sawyer in S2, so missed by an inch or so, and merely chomped her a new fringe. Everything happens for a reason!

My mind is still totally blown by this ep.

I think the writers got tired of people saying “sto answering questions with more questions!” and decided to instead answer some questions with a huge WTF (which, I admit, is actually a question, but fuck it).

why did they have to make up ‘Graybridge’ football (footage looked like a Spanish game) team when it’s OK for them to talk about the Red Sox? DELIBERATE WIND-UP

also “lobsters on the pier” lol

they should’ve had Desmond tip the barman 10%

shame we couldn’t see Eko in London

the whole chestnuts scene with Mrs Hawking was so Matrix Oracle

you know, you’re right. and now i feel a little sick.

I was surprised that Judi Dench Jr. said that pushing the button was Desmond’s big accomplishment in life, when turning the key seems to me equal or more important.

lol @ “judi dench jr.”

anybody know why ‘next week on lost’ is never included in the torrents?

It is for the good of us torrenting folx. Jokes apart, I think you can get them in some torrents, dunno which oens

You can always find the “next week on LOST” bits on youtube.

Shit I bet if you looked hard enough you could find Judi Dench Jr Pickett Make-Outs on youtube.

i’m counting on you, nicka.

We all are. While on your hunt, please find the cut Tom-on-Benry scenes please.

ha just saw Goodwin in Ugly Betty

rly not looking like a dharma logo on the red trainers there. sad to say i went back and checked. also the flash frames right after the key turn were unenlightening too.

BAH.

It isn’t just, like, a Converse logo, is it?

http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/ is good if yr into that sort of thing

I have to admit that Charlie is annoying when he get’s all overprotective about Claire and the baby.

He’s an utter dick! An addict deliberately getting an alcoholic drunk? I think he’s a great character.

I also went back and checked the logo on the runners. Not Dharma.

Lolz@ fake London, with its lobsters on the pier, and its posters for the Scots Brigade calling all and sundry to fight with HONOR (and American guns).

STILL NOT ENOUGH SAYID, FUCKOS!

Maybe have been drinking.

London has no lobsters?

but jeweler time cop lady actress (Fionula Flanagen)

She was the creepy old maid from... wait for it... THE OTHERS!

yeah, really, london really doesn’t have lobsters? me and beth could send you some.

we have lobsters

and the Thames has a few piers

but you can’t buy LOBSTERS ON THE PIER

That’s too bad.

I watched it when I was quite drunk and got pretty emotional about the whole thing. Especially when Penny was trying to convince him he was worth something. Really, really great episode.

Couple of stupid cock-ups on the British front, though. Wouldn’t Desmond actor have said “Eerr... we wouldn’t have posters like that and we certainly wouldn’t spell ‘Honour’ that way” to the props people?? Oh well.

i sort of thought that the over-the-topness of desmond’s flashback scenes were purposful, indicative of a dream or an in his head experience, rather than a literal, in his body experience.

didn’t the whole thing have a dreamy, unreal feel to it?

Yes, if it was real no one would have given Charlie money for singing Wonderwall.

the extras in the busking scene were awful...“bopping”

this episode was quite ridiculous but good I guess, tho the scene with the old woman was a little too crazy maybe. also why did getting hit with the bat send him back to the island?

is it possible he died in both instances? when he turned the key and when he got the bat to the head?

I was thinking that whatever Desmond went through was The Island trying to tell him something ala what Locke went through—except that Boone is now Judi Dench Jr.

bah beaten to the lobsters on pier thing.

brittishers be getting worked up over lobsters on the pier!

also, FINAL DESTINATION ppl

If Final Destination was it, then they’re ALL meant to die when flight 815 went down but then the Island became the intervening event, and now they’re going to be picked off one by one according to where they were sitting. 0.o

spooky ring shop lady said, if desmond doesn’t, well whatever, “we’re all dead”. or summink

Wouldn’t Desmond actor have said “Eerr... we wouldn’t have posters like that and we certainly wouldn’t spell ‘Honour’ that way” to the props people??

Nobody ever listens to me. Sigh.

I agree though, that the not-quite-rightness of the London scenes made for a lovely kind of fever dream. Poor Desmond. I really like him, and he is an excellent foil for Charlie, really.

i tht dench jr was when ‘lost’ jumped the shark tbqf

this ep really wasn’t that revealing!

they made a lot of the ring going in the river. maybe hobbit boy will go after it/it’ll turn up on the beach. also the jom robinson/deezy thing is a bit too much like the jin/sun thing, no?

Well I guess they were running out of new ways to portray fathers in a bad light.

I started watching Heroes, and that seems to be full of bad or absent dads too. And then there’s the new series of 24 ...

nb i am up for ‘lobsters on the pier’ fap

I thought the scenes in the pub were some of the strangest. 16floz glasses, napkins instead of beermats, being given a napkin by the barman as he poured your drink, not paying until you’re leaving—THIS IS NOT A BRITISH PUB.

oh also no-one mentioned this because by now it’s just kind of standard lost bidniz: OMG POLAR BEAR PAINTINGS IN JIM ROBINSON’s OFFICE!!1!!!!

I’m surprised that this hasn’t come up. From the “brainwashing” scene from 2 weeks ago. Played backward , this scene has a voice clearly saying “Only fools are enslaved by time and space.”

i brought it up and it crashed ILX and now we’re stuck here, on this island/sandbox.
