iirc gabbnebb was never permabanned, so he can def come back to sandbox if he wants. and i dont really feel like banning him from a thread if hes getting discussed on that thread in a sorta playhouse 77 way. so here is my modest proposal:

1. dont talk about him on that particular thread

2. neb, dont post on that thread as long as peeps stay up with point 1

if that works out, awesome. if not, idk, we’ll go from there.

The thing is, we, the girls, often use that thread to talk about the behaviour of men that we find problematic or difficult to deal with, in order to find solutions if possible, or solidarity if not. This includes men that we interact with online. I know that we try not to make it about specific individuals, but the problem is, without examples it descends into generic man-bashing and generalisations which, believe it or not, most of us very strongly against.

There is now a whole nother thread where men, if they want to talk about the issues on the Girls Only thread, can do so, without invading our space.

But the thing is, in order for an individual man to get ~talked about~ on the Girls Only thread on the specific level that he was being talked, he has to be behaving in a pretty objectionable way (such as completely derailing the Mark Ruffalo thread for a couple of hundred posts)—in which case, the problem is not the Girl thread, but that behaviour in the first place.

not making any assignations of blame here i am just kinda setting general groundrules which i think are pretty reasonable, so thats what im going with. presumably this wont be an issue because i think they’re pretty easy to hold to.

It means p much that we can discuss specific examples involving people who don’t post here or general issues, but not ILXors specifically, which I think is okay. The latter is what exasperated emails are for.

The thing is, it’s not as if several people didn’t try to have reasonable conversations with him, explaining why he was being problematic and he didn’t just stick his fingers in his ears going “la la la, mansplain mansplain mansplain.”

I do not think it’s unreasonable, at that point, to say, in the girl thread, “massive mansplaining douche is, well, a mansplaining douche!” That’s hardly “throwing shade”—it’s discussing a problem that we have all encountered.
