Here is a list of musicians. I want you to rank them in order of “I still dig this person” but leave at least one out.

Ahahaha, nooooooo. What if the answer is ‘none of them’? I can’t even bring myself to do it as a test exercise.

Yeah I started to answer mostly to test ranking some but not all poll options and was just overwhelmed by “ugh, no”

I will likely try to power through but I made this too awful

You can do an old skool one vote only poll.

(Oops misread your point) Edits are great.

corgan just gives nonsense interviews about meeting shapeshifters to joe rogan etc. while the others here are all actively evil in some way so this is pretty easy to choose #1 at least

I can still listen to 90s pumpkins, I don’t listen to ryan adams anymore but that’s not because of the music. The others I never cared for. If it was Whiskeytown or The Smiths then It’d be different.

I was playing an old playlist this weekend that happened to have “XXXO” on it and M.I.A. singing “You want me to be somebody that I’m really not” hits extremely hard these days in a very sad way

i havent listen to any new morrissey for ages, couldnt even name any albums since quarry, but i will still happily listen to his stuff up until then. had seasick yet still docked stuck in my head at work just last week in fact.

Bumping this to try to get more votes

I added all options except for one to the right column, in the name of science and not in any actual personal preference.

I voted

  1. Billy Corgan

  2. Morrissey

Assuming that I’m actually voting for Smashing Pumpkins and The Smiths. I don’t have any attachment to the other artists.

Also, I really like the option to resubmit votes. There have been so many times where I’ve accidentally voted for the wrong option or changed my mind as the poll went on.

Part of the thinking was just if there are 50 options, it takes a bunch of time to get your head straight around them.

My initial iteration of this included Siouxsie Sioux because she is prickly and wore a swastika for shock value but once I started fleshing out the list I was like “this is deeply unfair to her” and took her off

Maybe I should have added Eric Clapton

Also, Siouxsie would have crushed everybody on this poll.

Voted Corgan because I actually liked the Zwan album

Voted Morrissey because I liked the guitar playing on whatever the single from Your Arsenal was and the vocals were ignorable

Voted Murphy because I liked the first Moloko album

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a whole Ryan Adams song, solo or with whatever his band(s) was/were called

While I didn’t ever work directly with her on anything, I did work for Palmer’s former label (Dresden Dolls and one of her solo releases were on Roadrunner) so fuck her forever

I actually paid cash money for the first two M.I.A. albums and that may be the $20–25 I most want back from my entire life

Corgan praised Trump and when called on it retreated into “I hate all parties”, don’t think he should get that easy a ride.

I don’t dig any of these people and wouldn’t listen to new music by any of them so I rated in terms of “would I be ok hearing old music by them, preferably drunk”.

Oh believe you me, unless there are some radical changes across the board with everyone in this list, I’m never buying any of their music again

That said, I can’t let go of Gish.

Also, I have a “Disable chat” button on this thread that completely borks the formatting of the thread header

Yes, you get that if you created the thread. It may be that no-one uses that, and if not, I’ll just get rid of it.

Poll completes tomorrow: Don’t rank all options: who would you rather listen to?

it feels like Billy’s biggest crime is just being “cringe”, as opposed to toxic, evil, bigoted, or all of the above (all others are also cringe.) I voted Morrissey second, I’ll make room for the Smiths. Poll is missing Grimes.

Once again, dude expressed admiration for Donald Trump, I wouldn’t say cringe is the word for that even if he equivocated afterwards.

Voted Morrissey because I liked the guitar playing on whatever the single from Your Arsenal was and the vocals were ignorable

There were multiple singles but all written with / guitared by Alain Whyte — you may have been responding to Mick Ronson’s production, though.

Only ever wanted to hear one Corgan song, so my votes here don’t entirely reflect my feelings about the artists as either people or whether I can still enjoy recordings from their pre-known-to-be-terrible periods.

I missed or forgot the Trump praise...shows how much attention I pay to him.

How the hell did I miss Grimes

smh @ me

Poll has completed: Don’t rank all options: who would you rather listen to?
