haha this was my first exposure to leonard cohen as well, my mom had this on cd and i would listen to it all the time
i heard it on the radio while on vacation with my parents in London, i think
really? tbrr tho her version of ‘first we take...’ is one of the few tracks i think is way inferior to cohen’s and probably the most mid 80s this album gets
i have to say there are so many great potential edits on this record that it breaks my heart a little no ones taken up the gauntlet
the production on the Cohen version is really great.
OT but i always thought rita coolidge sang this. also the male backup singers are amazing
This is really difficult. I need to choose between “Song of Bernadette,” “A Singer Must Die,” and her noir-ish version of “Famous Blue Raincoat.” The most underrated singer, ever.
