So we have another mixtape, Echoes of Silence.. http://the-weeknd.com/ Inc. a Dirty Diana cover. Any thoughts?
the only weekend u need
lol saucy secretaries :D
I wonder if all the clothes ended up in that filing cabinet, that’s certainly not how I’ve ever used a photocopier.
so where are the weekend’s earlier mixtapes available (they were self-released, so are they made legally available online)?
initiation is A++ killer
what makes these mix tapes?
tons of filler
I was gonna say li’l r&b elves
i think this is okay — still think house of balloons is the only thing anyone needs from dude right now
“initiation” & “the fall” are dope tho
“glass table girls” might make my top 10
is it weekend or weakened?
so where are the weekend’s earlier mixtapes available (they were self-released, so are they made legally available online)?
same site as the new one, just click the arrows.
gracias.
this artist is the biggest joke critical phenomenon of 2011
is someone gonna do a weeknd, frank ocean, lana del rey, azealia banks and kreayshawn poll at some point? anyone else i’ve left off? asap rocky?
azealia will win in a landslide, inexplicably appears to be critically bulletproof so far
erm are you saying that you yourself do not exist?
Actually this is the only “Weekend” anyone needs:
actually I might need Lex’s video
Probably the strongest case for this act you will ever see
Dude’s enthusiasm is fun, but not enough to tip the barrel.
i saw an mtv news segment where soulja boy named a weekend track as his favorite song of 2011, i need to add that to evan r’s comprehensive dossier of COMPELLING EVIDENCE THAT THE WEEKND IS A REAL WORLD URBAN MUSIC PHENOMENON
was listening to ‘initiation’ on speakers and it’s a pretty scary song actually
isn’t ‘scary’ like one of the main things they’re supposed to be? why actually?
it was just a harsh vibe idk
just felt kind of claustrophobic, like you’re having a bad trip at a house party of someone you don’t know and your friends have all bounced and you’re just there, trippin, alone
maybe there’s some guy there petting your head
some dude

seriously, is this paraphrased from their official press materials
yeah damnit I almost had you
in all serious they go for an aesthetic, they achieve that aesthetic, they don’t color too much outside the dotted line, what’s so wrong with that
I guess I could try to spin some yarn about how it sounds like dragons attacking a castle defended by armored polar bears if that would trick you into listening to it
i wasn’t playing any game about why what you’re saying about it means it sucks. i just thought the use of ‘actually’ was odd since you were saying something that fits into the conventional knowledge descriptions of them. n/m.
heh yeah I mean everything that’s said about them is just a variation on plax’s ‘end of a party through smoke’ and nothing he’s done since has made that description any less accurate, well I haven’t heard the new mixtape
but yeah I’m not gonna try some heroic rescuing of this dude from that pigeonhole
would you say that you’re LOVIN THE CREWWWW?
idk I don’t have the mood to immerse myself in a bad party too often these days, I’m probably just lukewarm
weeknd is so terrible
i cant think of a group i dislike more, seriously
all the “end of a party through smoke” stuff makes me wonder whether the people saying really go to many house parties? cuz it’s some self-pitying, self-absorbed nonsense that doesn’t bear much reality to the actual dregs of the house parties, which are quite nice tbh, sitting around chatting shit with your friends, who are good people, and playing tunes. if the house party was bad wouldn’t you have bounced long before the end?
sometimes i try to imagine yr interior life and all i can do is feel sad and sorta puzzled
I think its a u.s. / u.k. thing
no i think some people just like to buy into what they perceive to be some sort of romance about self-loathing and it’s total bullshit really
hmmmmmmm
i have a rich and satisfying interior life btw, fyi
are you playing a character?

youre right nobody should ever be allowed to feel sad
this record is an embarrassment to any artist who has ever attempted to approximate emotion in song, tho

yes otm
lol
chatting

There are the parties where you have had do much to drink that the final hours blur past you in an alarming haze and you wake up the next morning unsure how you ended up where you are (and sometimes who you’re with)
Then there are the parties where you’re talking deep nonsense or superficial nonsense with people whose time you enjoy, where you planned to leave in 30 minutes and when you next looked at the clock hours had passed
Then there are the parties where you took something and you are certain everyone is judging you for it and you just want everyone to shut up because you know that when the cops show up they are beelining straight to you and fucking you up, and you would leave but someone stopped doors from existing while your back was turned
All of these scenarios are beside the point of this thread, which is that The Weeknd is mediocre and forgettable
only take things at house parties if there are lots of people you know and trust around! then the doors-stopping-existing thing is just incredibly funny instead of scary. in fact those parties should ideally always lead to scenario ii)
thanks mom
i can’t help it if yall only know how to be miserable at house parties
i got so tired just reading that

yeah I mean I never remember I have the weeknd in my itunes until this thread gets bumped, just don’t understand why they invite so much hate, guess people feel like they take away valuable listening time from the new boldy james mixtape or w/e
what’s the best, most precise analysis of what’s so wrong with the weeknd that you guys have read yet?

because they’re terrible trash that should never have been foisted on our generation & its galling that you would mention a worthwhile artist in relation to them even if just to troll me
if a beautiful woman tried to have sex with me but said we had to listen to the weeknd, i would politely decline
it has the emotional range of a 16 year old’s furtive make-out session on his couch while after-school cartoons play during the small window between the end of the school day and his parents’ arrival home after work.
it is like seeing the party through smoke from a party guest’s hair catching fire from one of the gas burners when you accidentally lean against the dials on the stove
it’s like a knife fight between Morbs and gabbneb.
i haven’t read anything yet that adequately explains why the weeknd is so amazing and better than [other r&b around atm]. different, yeah, but not better.
lex would be otm itt except the weeknd isn’t really about being sad at parties
and the last two albums have completely zero reason to exist
this thread is making me want to listen to these guys.
the weeknd is like a virgin’s best guess at approximating sexuality based on the distant memory of having flipped through quiet storm on the radio once a couple years back
The Weeknd is doing his own thing and it isn’t really anything to get all worked up over since he’s very easily avoidable.
oh i’m not worked up, im inspired
huh

sounds like a rough party
life is pretty ruff
