thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I guess my kit drum restriction was sort of to emphasize that set of instruments and place the albums within the realm of late 20th C—present popular music, as opposed to say, an album of taiko drumming.
Yes, suspect a lot of these have a lot of additional percussion. Saw Roger Turner play live with just a kit drum a few times, don’t know if there are any recordings of him solo—but he’s an improv musician and they release albums every other week, so probably
kit drum = drumkit

the nervous cop record is a drum duet with a few harp bits thrown here and there and lots of bastardization via pro tools. that’s the closest example i can think of a contemporary *rock* drum album with almost zero additional instrumentation. check it out.
Marilyn Mazur’s Elixir has only drums, percussion, plus Jan Garbarek’s sax on some of the tunes. It’s an awesome album too.
3 of the 6 tunes on Max Roach’s Drums Unlimited are just him on one drum kit, and the other three have drum solos too.
Art Blakey’s Orgy in Rhythm Vol. 1 & 2 also feature mostly drums and percussion, though other instruments are occasionally heard too. I think they have a couple of tunes that are just drums, though.

I have to admit, the “Toad” solo is more along the lines of what I was thinking of than say, Nervous Cop. Or like, say, that huge Jaki Liebezeit solo on Tago Mago.

man, i know there’s a (young-ish) jazz drummer who put out an album of ballads with just drum kit, but i can’t think of who it was right now.
someone like ben perowsky or matt wilson, but not either one
