omg @ someone asking about “witch doctor” and getting aretha franklin as the answer
and finished a whole palahniuk book once.
as opposed to those real vanguards of culture who have read multiple palahniuk books?
lol
i think the suggestion is that palahniuk is avatar of a certain boringly predictable edginess, but that even that kind of edginess is a kind of edginess u can use as a marker to be all ‘hey look at me being edgy from having read haunted’
for my part i prefer palahniuk’s early work, and i also have a personal rule that any time i say that out loud i punch myself in the balls.
loooool

whiney weren’t you the guy that when detlef schrempf was on p&r you thought he was a fictional basketball player? have you considered that maybe if p&r is sometimes a little bit over your head, then the reason you don’t like community might be that it’s even further over your head? nb: i’ve never watched either, just sayin.
i dunno if the references on the show are beyond whiney’s recognition, other than maybe he wouldn’t have spotted the my dinner with andre thing
‘community’ probably mentioned foucault a few times idk
ha

tbf rev you only know this bcuz detlef schrempf happens to have played ball in the PNW
i was a big nba junkie all through my childhood cuz
lol @ lamp doing whiney’s entire style better in two posts
I honest to God don’t mean this as a troll at all except for 100%, but at one point I also had a whole thing about how overly-enthusiastic appreciation of P&R and Community reflected the fundamental loathsomeness of AV Club reader/Videogum commenter/comedy podcast listener/@humblebrag follower/Louie screencap reblogger/bacon vodka infuser/Tom Scharpling music video enjoyer culture and then I got a job where they wouldn’t let me work from home every day
^ like a kiln
there’s def something about the tone sincerity of community and p&r and its fans “overly-enthusiastic appreciation” of said shows—i don’t know that it is fundamentally loathsome tho + in general my life could use a little more sincerity and little less defensive snark
Yeah, I’m just playing. Pretty much all my friends i-r-l are fuckin nerds who watch both those shows and ime furries and bronies are legit much more difficult to avoid outside the internet than the phrase “smartest show on TV” is
golf clap for BH the OTM marker
deeply happy idk even know what half the things in fartz 1st post are
i didn’t know about humble brag as a twitter thing until his post, but i’ve since looked it up and become just a little more misanthropic
Listing all the things you don’t like and ascribing them all to some fictional demographic you’ve created in your head to feel better about your own tastes is nagl, fyi.
aw
I mean, I’ll give you videogum comments and @humblebrag as generally terrible things, but I draw the line at lumping Scharpling and WTF in with those things.
feeling like Lamp and fartz could help me finally steer this board into a better direction
i’m not even sure that @humblebrag is the terrible thing about humblebrag—it’s just curating terrible human things
*fartz*

this should really be redone in the style of
The bacon vodka infuser, the onion AV club reader...
lol I at least kinda like most of those things given a healthy amount of distance from the internet and remove from functioning hikikomorism
AV Club reader/Videogum commenter/comedy podcast listener/@humblebrag follower/Louie screencap reblogger/bacon vodka infuser/Tom Scharpling music video enjoyer
comedy mustache appreciator, Arrested Development movie Facebook petitioner, RapGenius.com editor...
lol the rapgenius.com founder followed me on twitter the other day
Fleet Foxes vinyl buyer
“I’m calling my next band Crystal Deer Wolf” joke teller
the craft brew drinker, the ironic ’80s pop song karaoke singer
@humblebrag is done by Harris from Animal Control fyi ppl who don’t know

was waiting for someone to do this : D
it’s so weird when i see people from outside the pnw treat drinking microbrews as some hipster thing instead of something that all guys in all demographics do. also referring to them as “craft beers”.

Community’s Donald Glover chats with Marc about the Confederate South, black nerds, Spider-man, Tracy Morgan, Jehovah’s Witnesses, foster kids, and Childish Gambino.
Yeah, let’s keep steering this back to the days when we were all on the same side of hating Childish Gambino.
feel like microbrews are like skinny jeans or the arcade fire or something...there was a point when that mighta been a hipster reference point but today I can totally see a frat dude in skinny jeans w/ a local beer rocking out to the arcade fire.
wow i just heard this and oh shit i don’t like it
I got a girl on my arm dude, show respect
Something crazy, an Asian, Virginia Tech
She too fine
I do dimes
Something crazy, an Asian, Virginia Tech
haha is this real?
Sadly, yes.
i dont think even iatee could defend that line.
I don’t actually like this guy I was just bored the other day
solitary posts that effortlessly sum up ilx
today i overheard 2 people talking about a Community joke (the ‘room temperature’ room) and one of them was a 60-year-old CEO and in the back of my mine i was thinking WAIT YOU DON’T FIT THE TUMBLR WHITE PROFILE
mine=mind
Pretty sure that dude is just a TV watcher and not the shrill idiot loudmouth HOW DAR U CANCEL SMARTEST SHOW ON TELEVISION OK TIME TO GO TO SANTACON ppl that are the most vocal about being community fans
wow is Santacon a tumblr whites thing now too?
game done changed
only 100 people watched community...but they all started tumblrs
i literally cant imagine what other type of person would be into santacon besides TWs
whiney the underlying point that you will never get is that most people watching (or quoting or talking about) any given show are just TV watchers and not part of an oppressively obnoxious cultural force
is that how you sleep at night?
what is 1 santacon?
it’s an event where people who bought whiney’s book at urban outfitters put on santa hats
You’re destroying whiney’s carefully cultivated narratives that help him sleep better at night, ship.
whiney knows way too much and drops way too many references to idk—hipster culture?—to somehow claim he’s exempt
i once started a tumblr (and after a month forgot about updating it) and enjoy community.
i take depression pills.
three things most probably related.
shipley you’re dumber than a Childish Gambino fan if you think that i believe literally EVERY community watcher is a comedy-mustache-wearing lolcat-trading fleet-foxes-jackin dipshit; but they are certainly the loudest and most shrill audience, so I’ll continue to lump your dumb ass with them because it’s hilar

you’re thinking of deej
fleet-foxes-jackin = they are masturbating while listening to the fleet foxes, or they’re stealing the fleet foxes’ stuff for their own fleet fox style bands?
i literally cant imagine what other type of person would be into santacon besides TWs
was more an expression of surprise at how widespread/well known santacon is now, that’s all. also santacon predates tumblr by quite a bit so it’s just weird to me to see those two things lumped together. but whatever, keep fightin the good fight whiney!
xp
it’s all good, dude, i can deal with having my sense of humor attacked by people who say “hilar”
In further “2 much time spent decaying in front of laptop” news, definitely (“deffo”) thought ‘Santacon’ was in some way like ‘shotacon’ for a sec
santacon is kingfish status, I imagined tumblr whites skewing younger
yeah you should’ve switched out santacon with “rally to restore sanity” imo
either way whiney is like MJ in 96 itt

“Microbrew(ery)” is a term that refers only to the production capacity. “Craft” is more about the brewer’s approach to how the beer is made. Obviously there’s a lot of overlap — most craft beers come from what are technically microbreweries — but the terms aren’t exactly synonymous. (Some parallels with “indie,” probably.)
Anyway, I’m like a week late to this thread, and I still haven’t heard any Childish Gambino — though I did randomly see last week’s musical episode of Community — but I wanted to respond to this:
Like if you want comedy rap, this is at least a step above like MC LARS HORRISHIT or whatever, but there’s a whole school of MCs—Copywrite, High & Mighty, Apathy, Bumpy Knuckles, J-Zone, Celph Titled, Chino XL, even Joe Buddden—that do the constant hammering-away-at-punchlines thing. Sorry they’re not ADORABLE and on NBC’s Pomplamoose-comedy half-hour sitcom, Tumblr whites.
This makes it sound like people are deliberately choosing Childish Gambino over those other acts. The fact that Glover is on TV doesn’t make him better, but it does make him a million times more visible. Most people really don’t want to spend a lot of time digging for music they might like, so the guy who’s on a network sitcom has a distinct advantage. None of this is Glover’s fault. And none of his fans are claiming that he’s better than a dozen rappers they’ve never heard of.
should team up with the guy from the Better Off Ted sitcom.
haha jesus i love Better Off Ted so this is something else for me to feel horribly conflicted about
the epidemic of actors and show biz types deciding to be rappers is going to be so much more awful in the long term than Dog Star or The Return of Bruno ever was

dunno what metric yr going by here tbh

I’m just saying I’ve never heard anyone in the NW ever use the phrase “craft beer”.

this is more true, whiney is HOPING you’ll say he’s not exempt
And none of his fans are claiming that he’s better than a dozen rappers they’ve never heard of.

this, otoh, is probably totally untrue. but im not partic butthurt about it unless they actually are writing about music professionally
maybe they’re not saying “he’s better than Apathy” but I do hear a lot of “wow, I don’t even LIKE rap and I LOVE Childish Gambino”...
xxp c’mon in that case it would be all ridiculous seinfeldian “can you believe the crazy micro beer bullshit we’ve all been drinking recently?” instead of the “fuck u harlequin craft beer smoking fan fic bronie writing challenger spaceship cowboy riding assholes”
in Florida people refer to craft beer as “shit that don’t taste good”. oh well, more for me then...

Seattle =/ New York
I was specifically talking about the northwest as opposed to the rest of the country, holmes.
idk what we’re talking about now
we’re all about craft beers up here.
I’m saying that in the northwest drinking micros became a widespread, non-hipstery thing like 20 years ago, at least.
my friend makes his own in his garage. true story.
xpost~!
And that people here don’t use the phrase “craft beers”.
My dad wants to make his own beer btw.
he should—it’s fun!
