eric & parrish makin dollars never fails to hit the spot when i need to hear some old school:

ericK, that should’ve been.
Who killed Jane?
Ned Raggett.
i listened to strictly business this morning before i left for work. 100% classic.
Ahem.
so great! i love epmd.
After four drinks or more they sound like Paula Abdul.
Harry Allen once bitched about people going nuts about Paul’s Boutique, considering that Strictly Business was more sonically adventurous and lyrically tight. I know I listen to SB a lot more than PB.

disagree w/matt cibula. though epmd possess’d better flow
hey don’t blame me, blame harry allen!
You better pack a sheepdog, cause it’s bitterly cold out.
right at the top
Strictly Business is great (I love EPMD) but no fucking way is it more “sonically adventurous” than “Paul’s Boutique”
My lawyer’s so good, you’ll be walking the beat in Alaska.
MCs are jumpin’ out shoes and socks
Take a stroll, listen to rock ’n’ roll
Fuck Harry Allen anyway, PB is a great record.
Still, “WWEPMDD?” wristbands would serve many of today’s rap groups very well. OR maybe, “WWBDKD?”
why? cuz she’s a skeezoid!
samurai suzuki
drink Budweiser, cannot stand Miller
You’re just a soldier and I’m a Green Beret
I do not think twice about the MCs I slay

The process of elimination is quite simple
Let you grow like a blackhead and pop you like a pimple
Slice you like lettuce, toss you like a salad
Revoke your emcee license cause your rhymes are invalid

Known to the master in the MC field
No respect in ’87

Music please.
Well I have a new dance, that you all must learn
You may have seen the Pee-Wee Herman, but it’s had its turn
Damnit, none on the ipod. I’m stuck with 7a3 for rap from that era today.
7a3
Well, it is mad, mad world, after all.
As far as EPMD goes, it doesn’t get much better than crossover. Supposedly the Roger Troutman record it samples had barely even hit the shelves.
That doesn’t sound right to me. I’d say it was at least 10 years old.
Nope, it’s “You Should Be Mine” from “Bridging The Gap”:
Huh. Learn something new every day.
Still, it was funny for them to be dissing crossover artists on their biggest pop hit ever, based on a hook from an r’n’b smash.
o hip hop yr ironies are truly a mystery
Doesn’t Red have a new album coming out soon?
it’s like dig ’em smacks
smack me and i’ll smack you back
no jokin’ i’m gettin paid fully

YO WHERE’S MY HOODIE?

I’m good to g.o.
Get the boy-e-o-e-o-e-oooo-zak

any love for “Back in Business”? Richter Scale mmm hmm
About five times a week, unbidden into my head comes: Beam me up, Scotty/ I control your body/ I’m as deadly as aids/ when it’s time to rock a party.
How are their later albums? I’ve SB and UB, but never really investigated the solo albums or the later reunion stuff.
well, I like Back in Business but at least a 1/4 of it is either remakes of old songs or unnecessary remixes. the first half is pretty great though.
and the Def Squad album was not bad... whatever happened to Keith Murray?
Business As Usual has its moments. “I’m Mad”.
i like business as usual a lot actually.
i never heard back in business.
i remember randomly meeting a friend of mine after his last exam at McGill in Montreal when he was all fucked up on mushrooms, and walking down ste catherine street with him. For some reason all he could do was try to quote EPDM lyrics, but he kept fucking them all up like: “I’m a Locksmith! And you’re a green beret!”. But then we went to get a slice of pizza and he started doing all these pizza lines from “Mona Lisa” in a fucked up effeminate Slick Rick voice, like “My gosh, ya look nice! Put away your money, I’ll buy yur slice!” to these mean-looking quebecois metal dudes. Why do I have perfect recall of the most useless moments of my life? Anyway, it was funny.
!!!! omg that’s amazing fritz! that doesn’t seem useless at all!
well it’s been a useless until now, anyway... though I have called Dan just to say, “I’m a locksmith—and you’re a Green Beret!” more than once.
They’ve never made a bad album, they just progressively less awesome as time goes on. Shocking consistent.

that, and b/c they’d been around for so long you can tell how hip-hop has evolved over time just by following the course of their records.
what’s more — and for which they are to be credited — that even as their beats changed somewhat over time (to match changing fashions), they STILL maintained their individuality throughout. even when, as on out of business, they invited folks like redman & method man to appeal to newer audiences or (from business as usual onwards) their lyrics got more “street” (translation — they started cussing and talking more about guns, a stylistic tip of the hat to NWA?) — throughout all that, they still remained Erick and Parrish most interested in girls and dissing any MCs not as skilled as they were.
“even when, as on out of business, they invited folks like redman & method man to appeal to newer audiences”

erick sermon’s production history is almost better than what EPMD did
