OK. So at about 1:36 into this song (track 4 on the new album, the “Chemicals” song) Barnes goes “oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh” to the melody of some really well-known song, but I can’t put my finger on what song it is. I feel like its something by The Who, maybe, but maybe not. It’s driving me bonkers trying to figure out where that melody is from.
I’m sure SOMEONE out there can help me out.
Anyone?
“Whole Lotta Love”
nope. definitely not ‘whole lotta love’. (was that just a random guess?)
“Carouselambra”
Not that either. Don’t think it’s a Led Zeppelin song.
“Hats Off to Harper”
okay seriously I just listened to it and couldn’t detect any super-famous melody in it, just descending and ascending notes
“Sugar Sugar” ?
no, not sugar sugar. I swear it’s a familiar melody, maybe it’s not as famous as I thought, but it’s definitely intentional and definitely not just ascending/descending notes.
well good luck on your quest my friend, let us know
keep feeling fascination
keep feeling fascination is not what I’m thinkin of, but that’s actually really close!
Dyer Mak’r
Black Dog
Video Killed the Radio Star
New Toy
Erotic City
I Wanna Be Your Man (Jesse Johnson)
if it’s not that last one it should be, that song is awesome
It’s “Heimdalsgate,” not “Heimsdalgate.” I certainly hope somebody got fired for that blunder.
definitely not just ascending/descending notes.
It goes down, down, down, down, up, up (scalar with one pentatonic-type third leap in there).
I don’t recognize it either.
Of Montreal just played an in-store the other day at our place and he was wearing fake bling and his hair had way too much gel in it for being “just got out of bed” as he claimed.
Plus, his performance was awful. He, with a microphone and a PA system was drowned out by a toddler screaming in the back of the store.
Awful, awful, awful.
And really, did people thing Jew Nazi Dinosaurs falling from the sky were all that funny? because like people kept laughing, ‘n stuff...
Something on that album has been reminding me of a Blondie song, Heart Of Glass or Call Me.
But that “”oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh“ is not giving me anything
The opening riff on track 6 is the one that’s bugging me.
i like this band, but his song titles make me want to punch him.
I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!
He’s humming the melody from another Of Montreal song “Will You Come and Fetch Me” (from Satanic Panic in the Attic)!! The “oh oh oh oh oh oh oh” is actually the same melody as how he sings the lyrics “will you come and fetch me now” in the chorus. It’s track 3 on Satanic Panic.
Ken, that song is like George McRae’s “Rock Your Baby” in the key signature and tempo of Carol Douglas’ “Doctor’s Orders.”
(That was my determination anyway! Other people pointed out the “Rock Your Baby” thing in the chord progression.)
Oh yeah, of course. Thanks, Tim!
