“Astronome” is a little more focused than “Moonchild”, and I think that works to its advantage.

Both albums just go to show once again that Mike Patton is much better when someone else is providing a framework. I remember picking up “Moonchild” shortly after hearing the Peeping Tom album and thinking “geez, this is way more interesting Peeping Tom”.

I haven’t heard this yet but I’ve been thinking about picking it up. I liked Moonchild a lot. Isn’t this one just three long tracks though?

He does a lot more than scream on it, though, which is nice.

And yes, it is only 3 tracks, but according to the liner notes, the whole thing is supposed to be a “pocket opera,” consisting of three “acts” which are split into tracks, each containing a number of “scenes” of varying moods.

The moods don’t change all that much. I do like it better than Moonchild, though.

I thought Moonchild was pretty good—though it does seem to owe a huge debt of influence to the work of Keiji Haino (particularly with Fushitsusha).

He’s sharing a bill with Cecil Taylor at Lincoln Ctr, 3/9 & /10, he is.
