Could someone give me some pointers as to what’s hot and what’s not in this genre?
i hear Half Man Half Biscuit, Belle and Sebastian, Tom Russell, Jenny Lewis with The Watson Twins, Corb Lund, Monkey swallows the Universe, Adam Green, Darren Hymen, Morningwood, The Hold Steady, Hello Saferide, Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, Dead Kennedys, Eels and of course The Smiths are much feted by people in “indie” circles.

apropos of not much, the guy who wrote this column has a book coming — Yo La Tengo and the Rise of Indie Rock:
hmmm, i guess i’d be interested, though I wonder how compelling YLT’s story really is? they’re one of my fave bands, but i don’t really feel the need to know a lot about them.
I think I know quite a lot already from seeing them play for 25 years.
If only Terry Riley had chosen the next note up, this would still be selling.
