I guess when I flip through the Wire, I’m usually unfamiliar with at least half of the music reviewed, so I figured the year end lists would reflect that.
Tron Man Stigmata doesn’t pull in the readers, right?

The Derek Bailey one “Ballads” is prettty much a classic. As is “Blemish”, probably the Albert Ayler too (if thats your thing). The rest are regrettably shitty.
Red Cross is very good.

Geogaddi still gets played on a nearly weekly basis, at least for me.
I listen to that Fennesz one all the time and some of my friends went nuts for The Books after they played locally. Results vary, apparently.

Red Cross & the Fennesz record seem to still be desirable to people—they’re thing that still sell, at any rate.
i still like fennesz’s “venice.” animal collective is still great too. the books are still on my list of albums to buy after i lost all my old music collection. i never cared about the rest.
the 2002 and 2003 picks look pretty solid to me, the last two years less so.

I didn’t put Burial on my personal Top Ten, but I liked it. The Ornette was a given. I didn’t much like Om or Wolf Eyes (man are those guys overhyped), and haven’t heard any of the others.

The Knife are too pop for The Wire
Hah, I meant “results vary” in that there’s some interest among my group of friends but I really don’t think we’re interested in these albums in the same way The Wire is. For a lot of Wire picks, I think a Trout Mask Replica comparison is otm.
There are albums I like a lot that I barely ever put on, but I don’t think immediate replayability is the only way to judge music. Unfortunately, almost all of the stuff from The Wire falls into the “occasional listening” category for me. I listen to The Knife all the time, though.
The Knife aren’t pop, though, unless whatsisface does acoustic covers.
Too pop for The Wire doesn’t really mean actual pop, though. Just think goatee music instead of full-on beard-stroking music.

The Knife ARE NOT too pop for the Wire, they did a feature on them sometime this year.
Introduction is imo the best Red Krayola record since they started recording for Drag City in the early ’90s. Seems maybe to be getting overlooked a bit w/ year end lists; did The Wire give it a good review when it came out?

Did The Wire do the Knife then? Must admit it was easy to miss; these days, even browsing through it in the newsagent feels like going to school, in all the wrong ways.
