They were American GIs stationed in Germany, yeah. This album has been discussed a lot on old-ILM, someone else can probably fill you in better than me.
Well I can’t help it that I prefer threads that talk about specific bands/artists. So it becomes a question of, how much do I push the sides of the sandbox to discuss certain artists or not. One does try to tiptoe through the tulips, but hell, we probably need a Fall Sandbox thread by now for example.
Let’s just say there are threads on the old ILX that I am really sitting on patiently for over a week now waiting for them to come back so I can talk about certain bands which shall remain nameless for the moment and about whom I am dying to talk about new developments. And I wait very patiently because I know that to “sandbox” them is just not right at all.
But another week and you might see me combust and give in.

can we talk about the other Monks. the 80s satirist punks? i downloaded Suspended Animation, and it wasn’t really my thing, but “I Can Do Anything” is one of the radder disco/punk/funk songs.

I believe I know the band you speak of, in fact, I was trying to figure out how to differentiate this thread from those folks when I started it. I don’t know much about *that* Monks, except they were British and I think I heard their album briefly at a friend’s house (it had a picture of a nun on it as I recall?). I wasn’t all that impressed either, but I thank you for the song recommendation as disco/punk/funk sounds exactly like my kind of thing.

They were English (Richard Hudson and John Ford were previously in the Strawbs and later Hudson-Ford) but, mysteriously, bigger in Canada than anywhere else. Kind of an opportunistic punk parody/exploitation that was totally ersatz, but the songs were pretty good ones. “Drugs In My Pocket” was the hit single, with “Johnny B. Rotten”, “Love In Stereo” and “Nice Legs Shame About Her Face” getting lotsa airplay too. LP #2, Suspended Animation was released in Canada only.
