this too:

man i LOLed at a lot of that article. I don’t remember Schreiber ever being that funny!

the first one is cool. the second one is so ugly that it stops me from buying the mew album even though i think it’s kind of cool.

What article, btw?

I like this one:

He looks so much like the Jeff Koons of rap there that I wonder if it’s deliberate.

Also, WTF at Pitchfork being overly tight-assed about tastefulness in cover art? Oh wait actually I don’t find that surprising at all.

I mean honestly I like quite a few of their “worst” picks. I guess they’re bad cause they don’t have quilted bunnies and kites in subdued colors.

I like the Who one.

Yeah, but the best part of the article is the self-deprecation of admitting that there’s bad cover art they’ll give a free pass to, like “They couldn’t just get some drawing of a coat like every other Danish band?”

Waydaminnet...Richard Butler put an album out? What’s it like?

that red hot chili peppers cover is so bad that it makes me think that the band was involved in every step of the album-making process.

It’s designed to stand out in bargain bins.

I love the Lupe Fiasco one. The only really bad covers there are the bland ones like the Pearl Jam, Paul Simon, Incubus. The TVOTR is kinda weak too, I agree. But you can’t really diss an anti-aesthetic cover for being anti-aesthetic.

no, the tvotr one really sucks

“anti-aesthetic” record covers do not employ two contrasting typefaces, one of which has been altered in both form and texture, along with a highly evocative background image.

I like how they bash a 4AD album for looking like a 4AD album there

I felt compelled to tape a post-it over the cover of Actual Fucking when I sold it to the local used CD store.

Sorry, “anti-aesthetic” was not a reference to TVOTR.

oh sorry

I just mean if you’re going to put a big sloppy mess of shit-colored pudding with eyes and an imprint of a dwarf on your cover, you’re probably not going for “tasteful” in the first place.

I didn’t even know that Robin Thicke album came out!

The problem with the TVoTR is that it looks like an ass-end faded-glory rip-off of a proper 4AD design, like the mantle got passed from Vaughn Oliver through 88 separate people, each worse than the last, until it hit this moment.

I like the Mew one because it looks like a gang of mid-90s Mike Pattons is coming to get you. Someone please Photoshop the largest head saying “IT’S IT” and the smallest one saying “WTF IS IT DUDE?

the built to spill one looks like it should be on homestead records for some reason. it has a treepeople vibe too.

i like the ice-t and lupe fiasco ones...and the liars one.

i kind liked the mecca normal one too.

See, this I agree with, but the way they have a crack at it just makes it look like they’re not familiar with the context of the label’s design (which I’m gonna take a wild guess and say they are)

Refusing to buy album b/c of shitty cover art = legitimate aesthetic choice

Refusing to buy album b/c of shitty title = philistinism

I don’t get what’s supposed to be so bad about the Mecca Normal one — just that she’s old and wrote an album about online dating?

Waydaminnet...Richard Butler put an album out? What’s it like?

The music on the album itself is way more offensive to long-time fans of both the Furs and Love Spit Love than the Butler-painted cover art.

i think the problem with the mecca normal album is that mecca normal is on the cover

To me the TVOTR one just looks like a Stone Temple Pilots album or something.
