Amoeba let me exchange the first one and I opened the second one right in front of the cashier, because I thought it felt light. They just gave me credit.

Nope—never happened to me. I’ve bought stuff that I wish had no cd inside, though, after giving it a listen.

I bought Danse Manatee by Animal Collective but the dudes at Other Music had “accidently” put in a White Stripes cd instead. No wonder the Cambridge store shut down.

this happened to a friend of mine ordering from some small time metal label in Finland if I remember correctly. they believed him and replaced the CD.

This happened a few times at Fopp, but I went back (up to 20 mins later) and got it filled by the person who originally served me.

I’m sure this happens all the time, don’t sweat it. Why would you want a CD without case anyway? Especially if you’re getting a replacement rather than a refund.

I bought the first Gossip album in HMV Oxf Circ but opening it up at home it contained the second Coral album.

On balance I preferred the latter, but since I already had a copy I took it back next day and got it changed.

Depends where you bought it. Usually if you take it back to the shop within seven days they’re OK about changing and replacing.

I once bought what I thought was Keith Jarrett’s Koln Concert (from the $2 “no bitchin’/no returns” section in Sound Garden in Baltimore) and found it contained a 1979 Cars album. I took it back and the staff pointed to the aforementioned sign. I broke the Cars CD in half.

Once with the Salsoul Larry Levan set from Dusty Groove (missing one of the two discs), once with the Erol Alkan Bugged Out mix, which had two copies of disc 2.

i’ve only had this with the clipse promo which was sent to me two days before i was due to interview them. cue panicky running around town trying to track it down.

I once bought NIN’s broken, and the CD was in the box, and it had the right label printed on—but when I played it it turned out to have 20 tracks of pissy soul shite. I took it back but I should have kept it for comedy value.

It’s funny cos Trent Reznor’s favorite act is the Pips. Just the Pips — the one album they did w/o Gladys.

I once bought this CD...

...and I soon figured out the disc inside wasn’t what it was supposed to be, ’cause the track count and running times were totally different than on the cover. Anyway, I liked the actual music I got, but the disc had no other information except the record label (which was the same as on the record I thought I was buying), so now I have no idea what artist I’ve been listening to, and can’t track down any other music by them. :(

Happened to me too. Somebody offered me a CD and when I opened, it wasn’t in the case. I kinda felt like an idiot when my friend asked me if I liked the CD and I told me that the case was empty.

Happened to me once, but it was my own fault: It was a used CD shop with all the discs themselves kept behind the counter, and I wasn’t watching the proprietor closely enough. Bought 3 discs; received 2. (An honest mistake—no attempt to cheat me.) Too late, I remembered thinking, in retrospect, that the bag felt slightly lighter than it should’ve. Just like a seasoned drug dealer.

all double albums, and yet the fella had put CD2 in first and CD1 in last, hence minor confusion for the first couple of mins when the tracklistings didn’t match up.

Out of town, shopping in a brick and mortar store where they kept the actual CD’s behind the counter. Got home hours and hours later, only to discover that the lady had only put the first of the two discs into the case.

Maybe she was trying to be nice; trying to shield me from the lameness of that second half of the album.

All the more to tantalise your tastebuds for Sanders’ epic bass clarinet solo on “Prince Of Peace” which sounds exactly like a ship’s deck creaking in the middle of a tornado.

I bought my Dad the Beatles Anthology and it had two copies of disk one and no disk two, but it was from a dodgy market dude and I couldn’t return it.

I bought a DVD of Casino Royale out of Club Row Market last Saturday.

It was a total con. Peter Sellers wasn’t on there at all.

I ordered the first Lewis Taylor CD from Rough Trade back in the day, and received an empty case...they sent me a new one (thanks, Sparrow!), but I still have that empty case...on occasion, I wonder whatever became of that disc...

I bought the Velvet Underground- Peel Slowly & See box set & one of the discs was all quiet storm R&B though the disc itself had the proper VU labeling. When I brought it back for exchange, the clerk thought I was mistaken & told me that the late VU stuff sounded more R&B-ish.

One of the Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble discs has a lot of copies messed up like that. It took three tries to find one that had the right music on it.

I have three CD cases at home of Pell Mell’s Interstate shipped to me from CDNow that have no CD. (I also have a fourth one with the CD. It damn sure wasn’t worth the trouble.)

i bought a birthday party comp brand new once and it had nothing recorded on it. it had track info, but wouldnt play on any cd player. it was an indie shop and they knew me well so they let me return it, after testing it.

i bought the lindstrom “there’s a drink in my bedroom and i need a hot lady” ep used from reckless in chicago. it had two 12’s in it and the price tag was labeled as a 2x12“ but TADIMBAINAHL is only one 12”. the second 12“ was a white label of some electo/break thing. i should do a spotting thread on it some time.

Pleasant Plains, I’m honestly moved by that sob story.

In fact, every time I read the title of this thread, I feel like nightmares are starting. I confess I’ve never had it happen to me...yet.

The important thing is that I learned from the experience, was able to put it behind me, and am now wiser and stronger because of it.

This also happened with Soundgarden’s “A-Sides,” some of which were incorrectly pressed with 60s Top 40 comp instead of the advertised 18 Grunge classics.

Well I took it back, but they were out of copies, so I ended up just getting my money back.

I got two CD 2s when I bought Estrellas de Areito and when I took it back the miserable sod in the shop showed it to his equally misertable mate and said “gaizki” which surprised me because I would have expected him to say “txara”, so that showed me.

I bought the Wire On the Box 1979 CD and DVD set in Toronto, a few hours before I flew back to the UK, and it was missing the DVD. Bollocks.

Oh my god, PLEASE don’t tell me that. That Wire DVD from ’79 is like one of my favourite things in the world ever. I weep for you.
