What a great fucking album. I can’t get enough listens, and the damn thing is only 13 minutes long. Are there any albums of a similar style that I should check out (by anyone; I have most of the Dwarves’ stuff).

I don’t think there are. I mean, there is great hardcore, but nothing I know of with the roots in rock and roll that you hear on that record.

Yeah, that rock and roll at insane speed is basically what I’m looking for more than another hardcore record.

my stock answer is the Angry Samoans’ “Back From Samoa” LP, but it doesn’t really have the density of the Dwarves sound.

The most Dwarves-sounding records I can think of are the first two Zeke albums. Circa Super Sound Drag Racing and Flat Tracker they basically sounded like a Dwarves cover band with a bit more cave in their man. A bit more trailer in their trash. Not as funny or as catchy as the real thing (of course), but a remarkable simulation nonetheless.

Oh, and hey, what about the Didjits? Rick Simms and co. were doing something VERY similar for Touch and Go Records back in the late eighties. Speedy, aggressive, ultra-catchy punk ROCK. Funny without ever quite slipping over into novelty schtick-rock. Hey Judester and Hornet Pinata come highly recommended.

The early Supersuckers records (before they went all country, and when the “rock” posturing was still held in check by the punk) are pretty great, too. Not exactly distinctive or anything, but Smoke of Hell is a fucking blast.
