I’ve really been enjoying Carnavas. I can see how they owe a lot to Sonic Youth, MBV, and the Pumpkins, but I think the songs are put together really well (and minimize all those bands’ faults) with strong, full production; great-sounding alt-rock guitars (improbably distorted noisy sometimes); and good singing, achieving some real intensity on tracks like “Future Foe Scenarios”. Maybe not too ambitious but very enjoyable, much better than Meds.
A more damning review I could not write.
“and noisy”
“Noisy” like Sonny Sharrock on a bender, or “noisy” like a buncha whitebread wannabe alt-rock-stars yearning for a bit of cred?
Closer to the latter, probably. But it sounds good and they’re good songs, mostly. I never pretended it was anything groundbreaking.
whitebreads, leave rock forver!
Hrm, thought there might be some interest from the shoegazin’ crowd here. Oh well.
I’ve only vaguely heard of these guys. But something about them kinda bugs, and it’s probably the name.
I really like “Well Thought Out Twinkles” even with the questionable song title. Reminds me of early Wrens.
They are on Letterman tonight, with Danny DeVito.
Maybe a drunken Danny DeVito will assault them.
Maybe he’s singing with them.
Oh, the images.
Are you sure these guys aren’t an ILX pickup band? This looks like a WDYLL thread: http://www.thewongway.org/?p=30
