a town that’s planning a building this hot deserves its own thread

this building is for sale and has been for more than a year. kdk and i want to buy it. 11th and stark, right across from the mark spencer, mere footsteps from powell’s, etc. it’s a beautiful building that looks better than this photograph indicates.
the pictures are all enormous so i’ll just post a link to the Portland City Storage towers that you gave me the tip on a few weeks ago:
and this seems like a pretty good blog about portland architecture:
i can’t believe that one looks better in person. pretty hot as is
i know!
i <3 holocene
glad to finally see your building. what a place
SOUTH WATERFRONT: FUTURE BOONDOGGLE OR INSPIRATION/ASPIRATION
i think portland can make this work. my vote is for the latter.
it was not a perfect experience, but this building / bar (rocket) is v v beautiful:

apotheke is another beautiful bar in po-or:

so many nice wide open spaces. sometimes i think they’re doing the new venue/bar/building thing better than seattle
i think you may be correct.
Adrian Ryan gets something right about Portland along the lines of what we were talking about yesterday

let’s go
in many ways you are an american idyll except your newspaper SUCKS
hi from
shanti’s hair turned into one dread so he had to cut it
we ate sandwiches in the park and exchanged harrowing cop stories
also, M.A.N.D.Y.!
jasmine was on the phone all afternoon with the [controversial namedrop edit] guy and he invited her to reno tonight so we sent her off to the airport to try standby. all she had was a purse and a little dress
funny town
bunch of drugged raver dudes and a good number of hoochies
and then me and shanti
shanti’s lily? does that have a ring to it or not
yes, it sounds like lilting.
enchanting lilting.
tonight i feel like dancing
oh portland
so we do not forget, years from now:
shanti and scott at mt tabor, with a six pack, three in the morning on a thursday, tripping out about the rent a cop, arguing like a married couple about who should pack a bowl
shanti stopping at home to put on his hiking boots despite the fact that i (in my dancing shoes) was assured it was just a stroll on a path.
“we’ll take turns watching. 5 minutes each.”
“ostensibly”
“ostensibly”
i think i thought of max during this conversation, as in he’d be like “wow you guys hang out with retards”
but what would be the best way to define the word ostensibly to someone that’s eaten a pot brownie?
nah, more like drunk-and-stoned-tards. also, not-so-much-for-the-vocabulary-tards.
PORTLAND are you ready?!
I want to go
hey have fun there lxy and report on this thread if you get the chance
what r u doing there
i think she is helping her sister look for a house
i’m not sure but maybe they stayed here last night

it’s like the hippest travelodge ever
that’s exactly what i did and exactly where we stayed. that middle part with the chairs has a tent over it now, and is decorated prettily with white/blue/silver christmas-ish stuff. it’s “the smoking lounge” and it made me very happy.
did you find a house? or a neighborhood?
i think she liked the area around reed. looking at neighborhoods was the main objective, not finding a specific house, so no to that part. not many for sale, though. we were surprised.
could totally see her living down in that area. light rail is going to go through holgate down to milwaukee in the not so distant future.
perfect then! expensive though, considering where she’ll be selling and where she’ll be buying. huge difference in cost of living.
cost of living concerns are for wussies
hey mac you’re talking about my sister
(who is maybe a tiny bit of a wussy in this regard but still)
go big or go home
of all the semi-regular l&j board readers gr80’s cost of living has to be the highest, yeah?
Surely.
LOL cost of living is one of the reasons I’m considering Portland!
yes of course, tehresa.
i’m not making a statement about the COL in pdx so much as commenting on how much more expensive it is there than where she’s coming from.
yes. it’s all relative.
(esp because she is your sister!)

the city that works

on the bolt bus listening to double dutch bus. hi portland.
my little sis applied for mfa school in pdx and i hope she goes so i have more excuses to travel west!

It wasn’t a competition (ok, it sort of was), but Portland won my heart over th’holidays.
