just wondering, like.

rule 1: no wondering

he asks as he doggedly embarks on his third thread of the day! I seem to remember in the early days of ILE, back in the Greenspun era, there was something in the Q&A about how it was considered if not unacceptable then slightly “bad form” for a user to post multiple threads in the same day.

I certainly see the sandbox as being a more relaxed forum than ILX proper, but this is simply my personal perception and I can’t readily attribute it to anything. I am sure you guys can help me out by brainstorming a few potential reasons.

Sandbox feels more liberal and relaxed. Maybe its coz its an ephemeral thing, at least theoretically.

Ha, yes I remember that. I think it was like “otherwise we wont be able to read everything that’s posted oh no!” :)

i have no idea what you’re on about mark.

You have to roll a six before posting.

rule 1: no wondering

hee hee Resumo, at a long-gone carpet shop near my mum’s (now a pub w/ silly name, The Occasional Half) there was a sign saying “Don’t Wonder—It Costs Nothing to Ask” with an appropriate pic of a bemused gawky chap scratching his head.

and I posted a thread to real ILX once which some ppl may still find useful from time called Just Go Ahead And Ask when ppl could ask questions about things on the board that they may have found perplexing “So what is this chickenbear?” ect ect. My posting of that thread was prompted by the fact that I didn’t know what “bling bling” meant, jeez, how things change....

you must post pictures of your willy. on a special thred. in the archives.

If you click on a thread with a picture of a snake in it then you’re back to square one and Stet deletes all your posts.

ok, but I am making efforts to elucidate, Enrique and I am in any case sure that there are other ppl here who do know.

xp Matt DC is envisaging an online Mornington Crescent!

Only actual new rule—meta threads now go on this new board.

Matt DC is envisaging an online Mornington Crescent!

there is such a thing, kinda!

http://dunx.org/mornomic/

I did start a game of Mornington Crescent on real ILX a while ago. I might start another one this afternoon when I’m bored.

That Mornington Crescent thread was great!

The only difference is that you can talk about jazz as much as you like, but only if you post a picture of Julian Barratt in the same post.

Every time you go past Go, you collect £200.

that would be excellent Johnney!

I read that as ‘jizz’ CJ.

The Sandbox feels more liberal, smaller, more informal and less scary than real ILX. Real ILX seems huge and unwieldy, “I Never Knew There Was So Much in It!” as the old TV Times ad used to run, which is simultaneously both compliment and criticism: just show me when the programme’s on! just show me the kitten pics!

I know at least one person from sinister who didn’t make the switch across to ILX when so many sinisterines did for the v reason given above.

Of course the fact that it seems more liberal in the Sandbox could have both +ve and -ve elements—people feel ‘free-er’ but they are ‘free-er’ to flame, to snipe, to criticise...

Dr C sez this as well. I think less people can be bothered with the sandbox and it’s not taken as seriously as real ILX with it’s enormous archive of fun.

If people think real ILX is ‘hug and unwieldy’ that sounds like good aid to the argument for splitting it up further.

— temporary enrique (miltonpinsk...), February 16th, 2007.

considering that temporary enrique is not 100 feet tall, it takes a long time for the penny to drop.

but ilx is a bottomless pit

i kinda prefer the sand box but can’t really think why

The sand dulls the sound of the penny hitting the ground.

Can I just say that I for one welcome the current slackness of the workload in the great publishing houses of Oxford.

cheers, but I prefer to think of it as a different kind of work.

Only difference in rules is that I’m way more likely to mod on whimsy here. And move this thread to the META board.

good banter here

more del amitri in the sandbox!

Does stet remind anyone else of that kid in the Twilight Zone?

i said that about jon

Anthony Fremont: No kids came to play with me today, not a single one, and I wanted someone to play with!

Mr. Fremont: Well, Anthony, you remember what happened the last time some kids came over to play. The little Fredricks boy and his sister.

Anthony Fremont: I had a real good time.

Mr. Fremont: Oh, sure you did, you had a real good time, and it’s good that you have a good time, it’s real good. It’s just that...

Anthony Fremont: It’s just that what?

Mr. Fremont: Well, Anthony, you uh... you wished them away into the cornfield, and their mommy and daddy were real upset.

So, how come this and Mark C’s Majestic Request thread have been moved, but the Killfiles thread hasn’t? Isn’t that just as meta?

That is primarily a technical thread.

Killfile thread may actually be useful ho ho
