Fav minor league team = Indianapolis Indians, because of player Raaaaaazzzzzzooooorrrrrr SHINES! (now 3rd base coach for the Mets ;_;) Tho Everett Aquasox are close favorite due to awesome name.
(ps so glad to be home. sorry indianapolis, but it is over between us and i am blocking u and changing my status to it’s complicated. why? b/c y’r icky.)
(i do totally <3 seattle)
welcome home!!!
so glad 2 b back! If anyone is down at the stadiums for Mariners/Sounders games btw, they should stop at our house for refreshment/until traffic clears/etc.
would love to. next soccer game we have tix for is july 25th, a noon start i think.
tza i *almost* have the tickets. it’s like 85% at this point. my friends are flaky but hey, free is free
it’s cool i am flexible if it happens yay if not it’s ok!
we should do something soon anyway, though.
tickets are set. pick you up at one?
hooray, sounds grebt!
reminder: take the bag of spices
YES. put them out
jergins, you know about the free parking area that is through the creepy rat-infested tunnel from the train station? Under the deck behind the FW gallery?
nuh uh.hmm. i have my own free spot i like but another could come in handy. i will look up fw gallery
go to the king st station, turn left and go to the far end of the parking lot—there is a tunnel that goes under Jackson and follows old unused tracks, go down that and follow along the chain-link fence past the garbage dumpsters. There’s a guy that has set up housekeeping under there in a cardboard box fort, but he is easy-going. There’s 7 or 8 spaces under there—not always useful during the workday b/c other people know about it, but almost always totally empty on the weekend. It is very creepy to have to walk down there, wear sturdy shoes.
FW = Foster White
thanks! i’ll keep that one in the back pocket
thanks for an adventurous day, jergs!
lxy, it was swell to see you, too!
also, surprisingly, there were only 2 repeats of things i already have in the spices!
you too, tehehe!
kind of a miracle of spices, then. yay!
miracle turmeric, for sure.
what will i cook for you with all this spices?
turmeric really? well then, way to go, everybody!
maybe you could get harbl’s extra+++ turmeric recipe.
oh i just cooked yellow split peas. they weren’t ruined, i didn’t even notice extra turmeric taste even!
they must have been really yellow!
turmeric is very good for you but i can’t remember quite how
no it’s true when i saw dr. andrew weil give a lil talk he was raving about the benefits of turmeric but now i can’t remember why... something about longevity?
Mr. Jaq and I were inspecting a turmeric root at Uwajimaya last night! Housed between the mushrooms and the herbs, looked like a scrawny carrot. Maybe all that yellowness gives you a sunny outlook?
the tamarind i got (also at uwajimaya) was in a box and i had no idea if there was a way to choose it for best quality so i just got some and it seems to be working out ok but i really don’t know maybe it is horrible quality! i also got a cherimoya there that i was really excited about but then i let it get too ripe and had to get rid of it because it was leaking on my counter :(
i have never bought a real tamarind, only the gummy pulp you buy in sealed plastic. seems ok.
this is what i had to do with my tamarind:
<img src=
oops

I love those tamarind sodas that Greenleaf makes. They are probably just tamarind pulp, simple syrup, and soda water. Sprinkled with chopped peanuts though!
I bought apricots and a cherimoya last night! I found out a few weeks ago it is perfectly fine to keep your cherimoya in the fridge. It will stay good even if the skin gets all brown and shabby.
i don’t what all these strange foods are
my dinner was lite swiss on grainy bread topped with spinach and tomato and red onion and lots of pepper
that has been my dinner every night this week
smoove, if you came to seattle we could introduce you to all this strange foods.
sayin.
wish we were still coming ;_;
on the bright side you get to avoid being measured.
tsk
google likes lusty ladies

HOT! blergh.
indeed! i think i’m going to break a sweat on my way to the gym! then what do i need it for?!
Rode the light rail! It is soooo smoooooooth!
tza: jordan found a ‘seattle-related’ gift for your that is v v lol, will send soon, but have to find other little things for this 2nd care package
¡ exciting !
Skillet did a breakfast thing by my work today. mmmmmmm i got corn pancakes with raspberries and almost a sour cream or something. fun morning surprise
Oh I so want to try some of their food! They are headquartered in the building across 4th Ave from us, the one where City Light found my wallet on the roof.
they’re really pretty amazing, what they do. but....the food is SO heavy. if i have a full lunch from there i feel sick afterwards
I’ve heard their burgers are really excellent—have you tried one? I think they set up for all the Mariners games, will have to mosey over that way maybe.
Corn pancakes sound A+++
the burgers ARE excellent, i’ve had them 3x, i’d be curious to know what you thought. i think it’s maybe some kind of carmelized onion something on top. OMG. very very very heavy though, i didn’t eat dinner any of the times i had one for lunch. people also complain about skillet’s cost but that doesn’t bother me so much, not when Metropolitan Market is my #1 grocery store.
i DID see them around before a mariners game. oh here http://www.skilletstreetfood.com/calendar.htm
they should do something with the light rail, set up at SODO or c. city or rainier beach
oooh they will be here next friday, too. perhaps i will try this!
would anyone care to try the zig zag lounge soon?
the bartender is highly recommended.
it’s on the pike place hill climb. i hope it’s not a tourist trap!
i would love to! stuff at the market’s fun imo, and i don’t mind a few tourists.
i’m out of town through August 2nd, but after that let’s plan on it. also, light rail drinks columbia city trip plzzz
i don’t know what that means but ok!
why do you keep leaving us, jergs :(
i am a very busy important person

light rail drinks columbia city trip plzzz
Yes! THere’s also a good Mexican place (El Quetzal) and a Filipino point-point place I want to try near the Beacon Hill station.
is it called that because you point at what you want to order?
lxy&jergins+8=
bulleit
cockspur
mt. gay
maker’s mark
jack daniels
anniversario
flor de cane
dickel
yeah yeah jaq, we want to explore around each of the stations! i guess around othello there’s a great vietnamese bakery, tammy bakery. hey, maybe you’ve gone there? i’ve heard rumor about the beacon hill mex connection. and that’s the station i most want to explore.
is it called that because you point at what you want to order?
yep, it’s sort of cafeteria style.
That list is making me want to pack up and head home right now jergins. also need to stock up on gin for the coming heatwave.
Haven’t been to Tammy—we lived closer to the Rainier Beach station (which, there isn’t much there but a super p-patch and a gigantic buddha—okay pho place if you walk all the way over to Rainier though also donut king) and didn’t explore as much as we should have. it was really great to ride down MLK on those smooooooth rails after living through all that destruction/construction.
baltimore is supposed to get a new light rail line but people in one neighborhood are complaining that it will be ‘too loud’, also why can’t i just drive a car
it makes me sad to think about, that a small, vocal group of condo owners would destroy public transit for all
living in places that are still trying to figure this out (here we’ve had 1 million stupid nimbys with the same sort of complaints) is kind of wrenching. i’d like to live in a city where this stuff is finished and established.
yeah. it’s alright because i’m fine with buses but it would be more efficient/less crowded even if light rail seems a little bit cumbersome compared to metro. we have one metro line and one light rail line! it’s kind of funny. i like the metro but it doesn’t really go anywhere i need to go. it’s just a fun ride.
it doesn’t really go anywhere i need to go. it’s just a fun ride.
This is the Seattle light rail, for me. I will ride it to the different neighborhoods for fun, and def to the airport when that part is finished. But sadly no real use for me, day to day.
I have tried to talk Mr. Jaq into riding it south for 2 stops, then hopping off with his bike for the rest of his ride to work. But he would rather just ride his bike the whole way.
i’m totally ready to move, guys. does seattle have like, small outlying towns, not too far from big-city stuff? i’m ready for a small town, and an old house, and a backyard and a dog. and not always stressing about being mugged/raped/murdered.
most useless light rail: buffalo’s subway. unless you go to ub i guess?
smoove i bet you could find that! you could even get a house w/ backyard and dog in the city. i read there have been only 11 murders in seattle so far this year (but 4 in the last week oh my!).
i think we have 11 murders per day here
i love that bus routes here actually get you where you want to go, though. the routes seem to make way more sense than in nyc.
the other day i got cut off by this dude on a scooter, and without even thinking i just shook my head in a stern way at him and then he followed me: stopped behind whenever i stopped, then i pulled over (on my bike) so i could cross this busy street to a separate bike path round the lake, and he pulled over right behind me and sat there staring at me for ages as i crossed and road off. then of course i got terrified he was gonna follow me home, where i would be completely screwed, since ytth was out of town and i have no friends i could call to come babysit me. to add to that, the neighbourhood i work in is so crime-ridden, every day i sit there basically waiting for my turn to get robbed.
sorry, emo blog post :/
this is a seattle thread, not an oakland-is-a-poohole thread
i think you should definitely move here.
lol @ 11 murders
is that even real? how?
baltimore has 127
i know you can’t put an apostrophe in a url but the lack of apostrophe in “seattles” is driving me nutso right now!
<3
wait are all of seattle’s murders random like that?
i mean obv they aren’t random to the people involved but it seems non-systemic in a way, to me
those are the ones that get the press, of course, but on the whole i’d say no. it seems like most of the terrible things that happen here are the drug deals gone bad/gang stuff, like anywhere
baltimore has 127
nuts
oh ok. i guess i knew that. drugs.
ok so apparently there have only been 13 murders so far (altho that’s just oakland—400,000 ppl—and doesn’t include all the cities that border us directly).
violent crimes: 1349
http://www.cjgsu.net/initiatives/HomRates-2009-03-16-Score.pdf
oakland is #6 for homicides and seattle is #56
i think bmore has about 600,000
also we have this helpful map (can’t figure out how to link to 2008 though, so 2009 will show up) http://www.citypaper.com/news/mi_map.asp
i live in that hole in the middle, it’s really not as bad as it looks i swear
smoove, Seattle has small towns on islands!!! And you can just hop on a ferry and get to the city.
^way to do it imo
i want my own island.
HomoRates
oakland does sound scary, even to a new yorker like me
and it’s just getting worse. i dunno, i’ve been feeling really down about it lately, probably just a phase. i think it’s a lot to do with have an annoying anxious nature anyway, living in a dodge ‘hood just brings out the worst of it.
just move here; you will feel better.
i want to say more about the light rail but am not sure where to start. look at these first, aren’t they awesome
cool! I couldn’t figure out what the sodo symbol was from the handouts we got. I light-railed twice yesterday, from dragon to opera glasses and back.
jealous! it would have been silly to ride from spectacles to tiara, though, and then get on the bus! lol.
that is a really neat project, though! i like the explanation of how the constellations were derived.
would ride spectacles to tiara just for the hell of it
lxy and i have an ongoing project to go to each of the stations and document them. so far we’ve gone to dragon and the end of the line, canoe
magic carpet ride ftw btw
sir, can i see some documentation, please?
lol i was a little offended when i saw ‘magic carpet’ and then i read the description and thought ‘hmm, ok’ but i’m still a little iffy.
