i just made a batch of anzac biscuits, but with pecans and chocolate chips! and not really biscuits but instead one HUUUUUUUGE biscuit! i made it especially for my dearest bc he gets home from a horrible work trip tomorrow, but probably i will eat like 75% of it tonight.

<3 ruby, the last time i made oatmeal raisin cookies f. ate 1 and i ate 35.

anzacs with pecans and chocolate chips sound great! i always think they should have raisins in them, but they are a wartime shortages recipe so they are short on fripperies. also they had to keep for months because they were sent to the soldiers overseas by people who were good at baking things and then not eating them themselves but taking them to the post office and mailing them, fine upstanding anzac women of yesteryear whom i do not take after.

i don’t like the anzac biscuits that you get in australia, they’re not as good for some reason. they don’t have the edmonds cookbook je ne sais quoi about them.

maybe the golden syrup here is a bit wrong.

we loved the anzacs ruby brought us. then we bought a package at grocery outlet and they were bad as cookies go but good as crackers go. i ate them with cheese.

store-bought anzacs are so inferior! they have them in nz too.

chocolate and pecans are SO FREAKING GOOD in them! also, i’ve stopped making them as cookies and now i just press the dough out into a baking pan—so much easier.

i only ate ONE last night, and ONE today, i am such a good thing!!!!!!

i discovered some austrian schoko-bananen and i am wondering if they are anything like the legendary perky nanas i’ve always wanted to try.

even if not, they are pretty delicious. i think this bodes well for my voyage to salzburg.

the thing about perky nanas is that they don’t actually taste like fake-banana flavour at all—it’s a sort of a tangy sweet taste, more like pineapple

that’s a good haul. i especially love mallowpuffs. also, i haven’t tried them yet but when i was in nz i saw a mallowpuff & toffee pop collision that looked very promising.

oh yes my mum sent me a toffee pop/squiggle collision that was delicious!!

a giant raccoon just came leaping around the corner of the house! and then foraged around the yard for a little while. pretty cute and also pretty badass.

a couple weeks ago i surprised a cute pair of raccoons when i went out for a cig—the stopped on the fence and kind of huddled together and stared at me for a bit. SO ADORABLE.

i am watching THE KILLING which is set in seattle, and this along with my all-time favourite show GREY’S ANATOMY, would—if i had not experienced the opposite in person—leave me to believe that seattle is ONLY ever grey, rainy and dim.

i like watching gloomy things. the relentless blue skies and sunshine and lack of seasons where i live gets on my nerves sometimes, it’s boring and it makes people think about their bodies too much. a lot of people here are utter bores about their bodies and their health and their fitness. also the climate makes people buy boats and then there is a risk of being invited to get trapped on one for hours on end fending off boiled prawns and being told you’re no fun because you don’t drink by people who also aren’t any fun whether they drink or not, the hide of them.

tehersa, you know people who live in seattle have been known to actively perpetuate the myth that it is always cloudy and rainy here, so people from california won’t move here.

When I first moved here, people told me they dealt with it by not looking up.

And I bought an umbrella that was black on the outside and painted with blue skies and fluffy white clouds on the inside, just to spite them.

now I buy tricksy ones with lights in the end to shine on my path and blue leds in the entire handle so I look like an extra from Bladerunner (or that I have modified my light sabre)
