I can’t decide. Convince me of its merits and/or deficiencies.
not unless sentenced by a court of law. and even then i might make a break for canada.
I will only go if Nicholas Cage wears a bear suit and punches women.
And they put a bee-filled cage on his head and he screams MY EYEEEEEEES!
Those are my new Nicholas Cage movie baseline requirements.
He is Nick Cage. He is on fire. And it’s not The Wicker Man. All signs point to YES!
Those are my new Nicholas Cage movie baseline requirements.
Your expectations are too high.
i thought you said KNIGHT rider. i was like WAH?
Have you guys seen the trailers where they say “ghost ride the whip” at the end? Anti-LOL.
No one in the film seems to be taking it too seriously which is a plus. But the review I read said Peter Fonda doesn’t ride a motorcycle in it. I mean, fuck THAT.
Imagine Ghost Rider / Knight Rider tie-in sequel. That would be teh awesome.
What would Hasselhoff’s theme song be?
FROM THE MAKER OF DAREDEVIL
oh hell no
Why is Sam Elliot in this, is basically my question.
ally, you have something against sam elliot paying his mortgage?
It explains why he was in Road House.
Over in NRO ville, of all places:
The good news is: It’s really, really bad. The movie was directed by Mark Steven Johnson, the same guy who gave us the laughable Ben Affleck Daredevil, so there was really never much chance that it would be any good. My hope was that it might be bad enough to get some B-movie jollies and a few good laughs. In that respect—and in absolutely no other—it’s a complete success.
Johnson has totally outdone himself; Daredevil at least had a pulpy comic book charm. You couldn’t exactly enjoy it, but you could feel sorry for it. Ghost Rider, on the other hand, is spectacularly awful. It reaches awesome new heights of flaming-skull badness. If Daredevil was a sympathy date, Ghost Rider is a full-fledged disaster of epic proportions that can only be experienced as an extended exercise in unintentional hilarity.
You know it’s bad when the first scene after the prologue is a tender moment between two teenage lovers that might be more at home in third rate Dawson’s Creek ripoff. For those who may have forgotten, this is a movie about a guy with a flaming skull for a head who wears a spiked leather jacket, zooms around town on a gigantic flaming motorcycle made of bones, and is literally the Devil’s bounty hunter. Clearly the filmmakers aren’t aware of one of the most important rules in Hollywood: Movies about vigilante bikers with flaming skulls for heads do not need tender moments.
Not that the flaming skull parts are any better. You’d think a biker/Devil’s bounty hunter with a flaming skull would be able to do some pretty cool stuff, but his main power is—get this—he stares at people. And makes them sorry they did bad stuff. Presumably the first thing they think of is agreeing to appear in this movie.
Seriously. A stare? What kind of a hardcore super power is that? Couldn’t he have super flame strength or flame flight or flaming claws or a couple of flaming swords or a flaming machine gun arm or something, anything, cooler than a...stare? What’s next: Mean Man, with his punishing arsenal of disapproving looks?
I just wish he’d pay his mortgage in a more dignified fashion.
At least Wes Bentley might finally shake off that American Beauty bagman stigma. Um.
I wish I’d pay the mortgage in a more dignified fashion, I can’t be worrying about some Bionic Baritone in Hollywood.
Well I’m not exactly WORRIED about him.
Why is Sam Elliot in this, is basically my question.
’stache appeal
That ‘stache should have its own SAG card.

It’s even the same hairstyle as Road House, WTF!
I’m Sam Elliot’s ‘stache, and I approve this message.
Wotta cast:
Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Peter Fonda, Wes Bentley, Donal Logue, and Sam Elliott
If I can find someone else who wants to go there piss drunk, I’ll go.

What would Hasselhoff’s theme song be?
“Flaming Telepaths”?
dudes: basically the only movies i go see in theaters are superhero movies; i have owned ghost rider comics. BUT, there is still no chance of me paying to see this movie.
“ghost ride the whip”
Ride the snake-what?
You could try the walking backwards trick.
xpost
I am looking forward to seeing this movie. At least, when Nick Cage is Ghost Rider, he won’t be able to look worried.
Oh God, they showed a “sneak peek” of this on Adult Swim last night and, based on that one scene, I don’t think it’s possible for Nicholas Cage to be even more of a diseased nutsack than he is in this movie. I seriously doubt he will do anything as entertaining as putting on a bear suit and punch girls in the face in this.
“Look I’m GHOST rider and I’m... KINDA havin a BAD DAY HERE MAN!!”
I mean I’d pay to see that. I hear he drinks an entire carafe of hot coffee at once in this movie.
A reviewer called Cage’s performance “a witty/nutso acting experiment.”
HE’S PUSHING THE ENVELOPE
I would have cast the singing guy from My Chemical Romance as Ghost Rider. Like, totally emo it up.
I guess Joel will make me go. I hate superhero movies.
Who is Joel and why do you do his bidding?
My son. Because he is my son.
The NoodleVague vs. Nu-Edward theories of parenting explained.
To be fair Mrs Vague usually fields the crap-movie-going duties, but I think she will balk at this one.
Inexplicably Edward IV is afraid of the movies—too loud! He gets his ears from his mother. A guy with a flaming skull might win him over, though.
I think the press junket is going to end up more entertaining than the movie itself:
What was something you really wanted in this character, considering how involved you were in the production?
Nicolas Cage: “It’s a deeply personal character and I was trying to find a new way of presenting how he would keep dark spirits at bay. I didn’t want him being a heavy drinker or a chain smoker. I wanted him eating jellybeans so he wouldn’t invite the devils in. I wanted him listening to Karen Carpenter to help him relax so he wouldn’t allow the devil with satanic Goth rock or something. Or, he’s watching chimpanzees do karate instead of The Exorcist. And, all three of those things I was doing in my own life. I was eating jellybeans out of a martini glass and listening to Karen Carpenter and on the Internet watching chimps do karate. And I thought, ‘Well this is funny, let’s put it in the movie.’ But it’s also true.”
Can you talk about the skull x-rays?
Nicolas Cage: “Yeah, we did all that. They grafted my skull so I guess it is me, which is kind of wild. But what I really love about this character is that we’re all him. We all have human skulls, right? You’ve got one, I’ve got one, and we’ve all got one and yet we look at it and we go, ‘That’s scary.’ And then after a little while you go, ‘Wait a minute. That’s beautiful. He’s human and he’s a total bad ass.’ He’s fighting the dark forces, but he’s human. It’s pretty neat.”

How rare for an actor to go so deeply inside himself for the sake of a character.
academy award winner nicolas cage, ladies and gentlemen
F. Murray Abraham will no longer feel so alone.
I was watching the latest Rifftrax last night(one w/ Mike, Kevin, & Bill), and the flick was Battlefield Earth.
And Forest Whitaker was the co-star. I had not known that previously.
The presence of F. Murray would push the Ghost Rider cast into the vicinity of perfection.
I will not see this movie. I’ve decided that I should be more selective when it comes to the cinema, although I do have “Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life” near the top of my Netflix queue, so I have just exposed the infirmity of my resolution.
Oh, yeah, Forest (& Barry Pepper) ate some man-aminal ratbrains, working on that thing.
I’m kinda hoping that, since he’s a big geek & all, Nic gets cast as The Comedian in the Watchmen flick, just so he can get shot & fall out of a skyscraper.
TS: F. Murray Abraham vs. Ben Kingsley
Ben came back from time to time (cf. Sexy Beast). Last time I saw F. Murray was Star Trek: Insurrection, god help me.
It seems as though all who are planning to see this are doing so against their will/better judgment.
don’t go knockin tomb raider. Guilty pleasure for which i feel no guilt.
“I was watching the latest Rifftrax last night(one w/ Mike, Kevin, & Bill), and the flick was Battlefield Earth.”
weird—Rifftrax is run by my in-laws! I had no idea there was such a huge audience for that stuff (neither did they, apparently)
Has FMA had the pleasure of working w/ Uwe Boll, tho?
weird—Rifftrax is run by my in-laws!
The hell? You mean the folks behind Legacy Films?
I had no idea there was such a huge audience for that stuff (neither did they, apparently)
The MSTies are always jonesing. I should know. (I figure Legacy must be raking in some good coin given the relatively low overhead.)
Has FMA had the pleasure of working w/ Uwe Boll, tho?
You do raise a good point.
I’m related to the two techies/product coordinators over there—Rosemary Horvath and Dave Martin. Every few months they send me DVDs of all the reissues they’ve done (Reefer Madness, Night of the Living Dead, Carnival of Souls, etc.) At first they were just doing colorized/spruced up DVD reissues of films but once they got that MST3000 guy involved w/commentaries and promotion they realized that this Rifftraxx thing was a better moneymaker—don’t have to buy the rights to anything, no physical product, etc.
What the hell was the NRO guy smoking—THIS is the Mark Steven Johnson flick w/ the “pulpy comic book charm”. Everyone’s hamming it up (or sucking in glorious fashion—hi Wes!), everything’s goofy as hell, and if it wasn’t for the director doing quick-cut sub-McG THIS IS A ZOOM IN director crap, this would be trashy fun (without much fun—more actual FITES, plz)! Like, dudes, when Ghost Rider escapes from the cops, & drives by a neon GARAGE sign, the G and A blow up, leaving RAGE lit up. DO YOU SEE?
I want to slap the few folks that actually applauded when it was over, tho. Get one set of standards plz.
PS—in case you didn’t know, Eva Mendes has breasts, and this flick will remind you of this @ every opportunity.
they should just put that quote in the poster. works for me!
This shit was filmed in Melbourne, and is somehow meant to be a “small city in Texas”. You tell me how that works, I can’t figure it out.
I remember when they were filming it too, around where I work. At one point there was a black van with SWAT painted on the side as a prop. I never saw Cage himself tho.
I did see Anthony Stuart Head the other day though! But thats another story.
Eva Mendes has HUGE....personality.

having eva show up at the comic convention is almost too cruel.
i got the impression that the city was supposed to be dallas and/or houston or something
anyway just saw this, kind of in love with sam elliott, but thats it.
I want to see it just to see how much they un-Melbourned the city. I mean we have all kinds of really blatant landmarks they were filming around, like weird modern footbridges and things.
$44.5 million
Boxofficemojo just bumped it up to $51 and change. Jesus Christ.
Not that different than how Daredevil did, oddly enough. I guess February is the right time for B-level superhero flicks.
i can’t believe toula from pizza is in this
Where are these Karate Monkeys I was promised?
FUTURE DVD EXTRA
no Suicide on the soundtrack i presume?
dan just buy the fucking tickets already
Hahahahahah wait, why revive this this thread???
