Okay, perhaps in this case, the question is rhetorical. But one of the few times I really feel what’s left of Britain’s aristocratic society is when I see the BBC writing about “Lady McCartney.” For Christ’s sakes, she leaked stories to the press that McCartney physically abused her! (Plus she made a point of being “Mills McCartney”—keeping her last name and therefore her identity—while they were happily married.
It’s not like I’m a huge fan of Paulie or anything, but I just can’t get my mind around this.

Is it a remnant of aristocratic society, or is it just media shorthand for a woman who is only famous because of who she’s married to? Which, by the way, I don’t find acceptable either. It’s not like David Gest is referred to as David Gest-Minnelli.
