Hello thehold.net, i know everyone is very busy today, but i was wondering if any of you had had the time to think about Southern Gothic literature
I think there’s a touch of southern gothic in the air
should i start with a little erskine caldwell? If you were going to read a Southern Gothic book right now, or very soon, which one would you start with
I’m thinking non-Faulkner, for now
god’s little acre and tobacco road are both good, though imo flannery o’connor is queen of this genre. the heart is a lonely hunter, ballad of the sad cafe, and member of the wedding by carson mccullers are likewise superb.

a creative writing professor of mine in college is apparently “bringing back” southern gothic. aaron gwyn wrote this book and had a story published in this mcsweeneys. great guy and great writing.
