I am a young male from Dublin...I cannot eat wheat or dairy and for many months now my breakfast life has been miserable, sometimes for weeks on end at breakfast I would eat just a banana and drink a berocca. I tried rice porridge and it truly felt like eating rice which hadn’t boiled off the water yet, even with sugar it was vile.
Then, just when I thought all hope was gone, last week I saw “Oatibix” in my local store. I checked the ingredients and yep, there was no wheat, tho a little barley which could be bad too, in any case...I bought this “Oatibix” and a carton of Alpro soy milk and rushed home.
The taste was amazing. Even better than the Weetabix I used to love and have every day. Thank you Oatibix, you have changed my life!
Please share your Oatibix experiences here.
Also do you think if I mail something like the above with added “chronic illness/infection” they might send me some free Oatibix.
addictive as procrastination-aiding snack straight out of the box!
“Alpro soy milk ”
do you have it in flavors? I absolutely LOVE it (exc strawberry)
mine is just the regular....I’ve seen strawberry though yeah
yes oatibix is good “raw” too. bitesize oatibix is also good. I stopped at a 24 hour shop on my way home from work at 1am last night and bought a few boxes...just to be sure.
Strange, I just heard of this last night.
i’m intrigued
seriously...if you like weetabix..I urge you to give this a try.
the bitesize one is a good novelty, a bowl full of mini weetabix shaped oatibixes...every one of them a delicious milk sponge.
it’s sweeter than weetabix (which i’ve never liked), though not in a nasty sugary way...more like a particularly sweet banana taste.
Just bringing more love to this oatibix orgy. Love ’em and—as an extra bonus—the kids don’t, so the box lasts longer! I have ’em with yoghurt and honey as well as straight up. Delicious.
I’ve been looking for these as well—they don’t have them in my local...

...anyone tried them?
Ronan you should get some tips from Paul Sci-Fi Soul. He’s been off gluten etc. for several years now and has pretty much got it down cold.
Maybe you should try some raw food porridge.
How the hell would that work??
It largely seams to be fruit smoothie with oats in.
Oatibix tie my intestines in knots, I’m afraid. I stick to corn-based breakfast cereals or take the fruit/yoghurt option.
Tried this but prefer ordinary Weetabix tbh.
I don’t eat much wheat and I was thrilled with these, although they’re not too easy to find. There were all these TV adverts and then they weren’t in any shops. Boyfriend finally located some in Somerfield ing Greenwich.
I have tried them. In fact I think I still have a box lurking in the cupboard. I prefer your standard Weetabix, I think it is probably a bit more macho.
Your Oatibix was on special offer in Tesco etc for ages, might still be.
I also dislike your Super Weetabix or whatever it’s called. It is supposed to be posher, but it is just mushier.
Perhaps that is what I have a box of in the cupboard.
I can’t wait to get home now and find out.
How could anything be mushier than normal Weetabix??
OK, mushier faster.
You mean Weetabix Gold! Urgh! I have a FT blog about this I keep meaning to do.
the mushiness of normal weetabix is the real turn-off
i’ve not tried Oatibix but i have been having Kelloggs Crunchy Oatbakes of a morning but I just checked them and they have wheat bran in them. My friend does have this book and says it changed her life, though.
sorry about the grammar :/
many of the cereals you’d think don’t have wheat in them do in fact have wheat, eg RICE krispies, CORN flakes etc.
Ah, I saw these today on the shelf at my local co-op. I considered buying them but instead decided on two boxes of co-op museli on a BOGOF deal. They were cheaper.

Are those the things that SHATNER has been peddling? They’re awful. Much too sweet.

Yes, I even noticed my Quaker oat hoops have got wheat in them. Why is that? It can’t be cheaper. Can it?
Ingredients for Kellogg’s Cornflakes: Maize, Sugar, Malt Flavouring, Salt, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Niacin, Iron, Vitamin B6, Riboflavin (B2), Thiamin (B1), Folic Acid, Vitamin B12
Ingredients for Kellogg’s Rice Krispies: Rice, Sugar, Salt, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Malt Flavouring, Niacin, Iron, Vitamin B6, Riboflavin (B2), Thiamin (B1), Folic Acid, Vitamin B12
Think they’re OK, Ronan, unless the vitamins are wheat-derived.
I thought they had flour in them...for some reason. I am almost sure I saw something that made me think they weren’t ok, but I’ll check again.
I have been avoiding wheat for a couple of years due to colitis and can recommend the following, all WF...
Pertwood Farm Fruit & Seed Muesli
Nature’s Path Millet Flakes
Nature’s Path Oaty Bites
Bigger Sainsbury’s should stock these, otherwise check yer local Holland & Barrett / Fresh & Wild. And Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes and of course normal porridge are all fine. i do love Oatibix though. Now if only they can make a WF equivalent of Sugar Puffs...
and a dairy free equivalent of cheese!
The box in my cupboard was indeed Weetabix Gold. They were cheaper than normal Weetabix for a while. Perhaps they still are. But “Urgh!” just about sums it up.
Rice cakes aren’t good for everyone, despite being called RICE cakes. Apparently the agent they use to bind the puffs together can be an irritant for a lot of people.

Ah! I found some of this, but it was in the fridge of a house I was staying in in Nottingham so I can’t remember the name of it. It was okay though, not as amazing as real cheese, but plausible as a subsititute. Wow, that was useless.
This hread makes me feel bad Ronan, that the last time I saw you IRL we ended up in Pizza Express.
Oh don’t feel bad! I hadn’t been told not to eat cheese then! I seriously would love to eat a pizza probably more than anything else in the world right now, a horrible cheesey takeaway pizza. some night maybe I’ll just do so..what’s the worst that can happen? I feel crappy today and I ate perfectly all week. I’m thinking of reintroducing dairy for a week to see if not eating it is making any difference..and so I can have a massive bowl of chocolate ice cream
tho actually I think sugar is the worst thing of all
