Finished off a Lindeman’s South Africa Chardonnay tonight—doesn’t get much better for $8.
i was drinking

I just drank a schmancy organic canned “natural ginger ale” earlier. It was aight.
Boy, I hate that “linking back to photo page” thing. Try again:

Ah. I’ll have to try that. I’m all about drinking blended whiskey with ginger-ale and lime.
dc drank hella hot toddys today

Some pisco my aunt sent me from Chile.
pisco is nice.
i’m drinking a Sierra Nevada
Boris 8.6%
Hacker-Pschorr
A 24oz Miller Lite.
Templeton Rye.
Whiskey only available in... Iowa for now. Prohibition era recipe favored by Chicago mob. Taaaasty.
right now, a Lion’s Head. earlier, i had two Flying Fish Begian Dubbel Bocks.
Lion’s Head, eh? Are you in Pennsylvania?
Jeez, you guys are a classy lot.
A few PBRs for me. Damn.
yes, near philly. (like 10 minute drive to center city). lion’s head is the new yuengling round here.
Yeah, so I’ve heard. It’s like (pre-hipster-inflation) PBR cheap too.
There was a point tonight where I was drinking Chardonnay out of an actual wine glass next to my wife on the couch, reading the New Yorker, with the Marian McPartland trio pleasantly bubbling in the background, and it was like “Guess it’s time to kill myself.”
Wait, PBR is more expensive then before? It’s been about the same price since I started drinking it.
Depends where. Some places it’s still super cheap but others I’ve seen it priced higher than the rest of its class due to the apparent desire to be seen with one. That may not even be going on anymore though—don’t know. I almost never drink PBR unless it’s $1 PBR night across the street.
guiness draught bottles in coffee cup
Honestly, I have half a 750 of Orange Jubilee Mad Dog, half a 750 of Peaches & Cream Mad Dog, and an unopened 750 of Wild Irish Rose (that I’m too afraid to try) in my fridge. And 2 cans of Piels.
lions head at a distributor is still between 11.50 and 13.50 for 24 of bottles. which is totally fucking absurd.
My Philly friends never shut up about the beer messiah that is Lion’s Head. But it’s honestly quite good for the price.
Laurel, Vernors! Does it make you sneeze on the first sip too?
Beck’s for me, btw
I made a FRENCH 75 for the first time last night:
juice of one lemon
2 tsp powdered sugar
2 oz. bombay sapphire gin
ice
cheap champagne
RESULTS:
You gotta like gin for this one. My sugar had not completely dissolved, i’d found after finishing it. It was tart, but I like tart, but I’d use a smaller lemon or slightly more sugar. Gonna be a good summer drink.
After that I had an Abita 25th anniversary Pilsener.
second best drink in the world...
Jergins: No, just don’t inhale with your nose over the glass! It’s funny to give it to new people and not warn them, though.

Saw this episode last night and it made me thirsty... for Slurm!
oh
>I made a FRENCH 75...

Oh, they will...and they have. XP
okocim
these will FUCK you up if you’re not careful
Um, yeah...I started slurring on the phone with my mama while I killed it.
anyone know any good wheat free beers?
There’s a sorghum-based one made by Anheuser but I have not tried it. Red Bridge, I think it’s called?
mmmm....sorghum.
i will be drinking a shot and a beer, a shot and a beer for a few hours tonight. jameson and high life until my stomach starts to boil.
article on wheat free beers today in the Washington Post:

LONGTRAIL DOUBLE BAG
Tonight: Edna Valley Pinot Noir 2004. Edna Valley is a fucking good winery, and this was a bargain.
patron & chandon sparkling wine
I am still drinking it too—brought home from a byo restaurant. Wife never has more than a glass = I’m drunk.
decaffeinated earl grey
A 2001 Lan rioja? Haven’t opened yet but it was recommended by a friend. Will report.
Gin gimlet. yum.
knob creek (+ roommate who bought it) i luv u so
i am drinking NOTHING (nothing alcoholic) while ilx is down. no drinking for me at the bar tomorrow either, tempting tho it may be.
i should start making gimlets again, i went thru a big gimlet phase like 5 years ago. now i am drinking a gin&tonic even tho i’m fighting a cold
last night a case of blue moon. ugghhhhhhh
have been invited for bourbon hot chocolate after work. i see potential in this.
i have been drinking H2O
i have been drinking a gold medal winner at the world beer championships
also: green tea x 100
lots of h20 today. only 1 cup of coffee! go me!!!
i’m not “into” coffee
i find it can have amazing richness and depth that is v v comforting.
harbl i am forcing myself to drink green tea. 2 cups today. not so bad.
i used to have to “force” myself (not really force, i mean i just wasn’t that into it but i wanted something hot w/o caffeine so i would) but now it’s just a habit. i drink 2 huge cups most evenings without even thinking about it.
that is what i’m trying to do. it’s not gross, so i’m not gagging on it or anything. but i’m really lazy about getting enough liquids everyday. this is part of my (probably short-lived) attempt at being healthier. i discovered last night that i’m turning into quite a fattey, time to put a stop to that!
drinkin’ some spiritz y’all
anybody tried bombay sapphire EAST yet?

w/additional botanicals lemongrass & black pepper
had a sidecar the other night at dinner, and i was like dang
Dogfish Head 90 Minute
i’m guessing i would not like Bombay EAST but i would hive it a shot
wtf is Guinness Black Lager???
give it a shot, with or without hives
making cider w/friends and in the last carbonation stage—hope it doesnt suck. will find out in 3 weeks or so
feel like a few pints of smithwicks tonight
Bridlewood Block 7 Syrah tonight. Martini tomorrow.
My latest cheap buzz:

I just had a bottle of Crane Lake Petite Syrah, a 3/$10 wine, which may be my new 2 buck Chuck. Gt it at Sprouts, a Fresh and Easy type store.
Last night tried for the first time an Original Sazerac. It was interesting.
The only sazerac I’ve had was terrible, but I don’t know if that’s the way they all taste or what.
I’m not a coctail drinker usually, so I don’t have much to compare it to. “Interesting” is about all I could muster. Was in New Orleans recently and read all about the origins and was intrigued. Next time I’m down there I’m gonna try one at the recommended bar and see what the difference is.
a well-made sazerac should be delicious for just about anyone who likes whiskey. it’s kind of a fussy drink though—easy to get the flavor thrown off.
Yeah the one I had tasted sort of like cherry cough syrup, IIRC?
yeah that’s......not correct.
Ha, yeah, I just googled the list of ingredients and was like “this seems like something I should like!”
imo this guy is otm, especially the part following “my preferred method”:
sippin on some sazerac
Also had some Suntory Yamazaki 12-year. They’ve just recently gotten wider distribution in our area, I’ve been told. I don’t think I’ll be switching loyalties from my beloved islays, but it was delicious. Complex and very very smooth. The smoothness belied its age.
My First Sazerac was enjoyed at Galatoire’s
There have been many since
My first was at Mr. B’s, then the Pelican Club, Christian’s, Commander’s Palace, and on down the list. It’s pretty much a street sign for how well a meal in NOLA is gonna go.
<3 Mr. B’s.
Lots of places you can get a great sazerac; have never had anything that matches Mr. B’s barbequed shrimp.
Forreals. I recommend everyone go there at least for the appetizer of that wonderful, I-don’t-care-how-messy-my-shirt-gets bowl of butter sauce slathered goodness. Has never disappointed anyone I’ve sent there.
I think I preferred their gumbo to Commander’s, too. Heresy, I’m sure, but they’re basically the same restaurant anyway.
Knob
I would be drinking Lacryma Christi, if I could afford it. Seems most appropriate to the season.
a variety of things tonight, but the highlight was getting to try a pour of the famous 1974 a.h. hirsch bourbon
Venting my recent, uncharacteristic anti-American sentiments *solely* through choices of alcohol this holiday season. Havana Club rum-based cocktails, Alberta Premium + Canada Dry, French champagne.
picked up bottles of jameson, baileys and a beaujolais in work raffle so i’ll be drinkin those, mainly
andrew otm about the yamazaki
Got a bottle of Corryvreckan at the airport. Ardbeg is peerless at the moment.
I will enjoy a pint of Founder’s Breakfast Stout once my shift at the library is over.
so good
They’ve got a few kegs at the local! Stoked.
Had some Guinness Foreign Extra last night. It’s everything I wish regular Guinness was.
had some fernet-like Latvian liquor at impromptu work party yesterday
never got the taste for it tbh
foreign extra is different depending upon where it’s brewed, ive had nigerian and portuguese versions before
pint of the blind stuff pls landlord
so cider is going well, next thing we tackle will be beer, after which we are stupidly going to try to make our own whiskey, after which i will probably be blind
at lunch—Fontezoppa Verdicchio di Matelica 2010
quite a lot of Guinness
so cider is going well, next thing we tackle will be beer, after which we are stupidly going to try to make our own whiskey, after which i will probably be blind

uhh yeah be careful! what are you using for a still?
A teakettle and a mirror, maybe?
yah PROVEN BY BOOZE SCIENCE is a valuable poster and we will want to ensure he is ‘still’ breathing
i would ask some of my bathub poitín making relatives how it’s done but they are alas all in the great still in the sky
Details are still sketchy on the mechanics of whiskey making but I am told by the other participants that we have “a plan”
My plan is not to be the first one to try the whiskey
foreign extra is different depending upon where it’s brewed, ive had nigerian and portuguese versions before

This is from Ireland, 7.5% ABV
My sister made delicious Scofflaw cocktails last night: rye whiskey, vermouth, grenadine, lemon juice and orange bitters.
Was still full of 2 p.m. Christmas dinner last night, so supper was a bowl of popcorn and three fingers of bourbon on an ice cube.
Failla “Phoenix Ranch” Syrah 2005
Inniskillin Vidal Icewine
i find bourbon is amazing for the stomach when you’re full! xp
currently drinking evan williams single barrel (’02).
cracked my van winkle rye earlier tonight. now enjoying some henry mckenna. there’s always room for rye and bourbon.
I’ll need to replace my Knob soon, and see Four Roses taking its place, maybe.
yes do it that’s an excellent decision
i polished off half a gift fifth of jameson’s over the course of 3 hours at a friend’s house tonight. it’s not exactly my go-to irish but who am i to be fussy on such an occasion?

drinking yellow tail cabernet sauvignon
ever heard of it
vintage?
it’s “pretty good”!
“For 3 generations the Casella family has been making wine at their winery in the small town of Yenda, situated in South Eastern Australia. It is here that yellow tail is created with a simple purpose in mind; to make great wine that everyone can enjoy. yellow tail is everything a great wine should be. It’s approachable, fresh, flavorsome, and has a personality all of its own.”
i have approached the yellow tail
doesn’t list the vintage. i’m assuming 1992
twas a fine year in South Eastern Australia
up next

or

u decide
prefer bourbon tbh but realize that may not be an available course 4 u
not in the immediiate tbh
Been genuinely surprised by the number of friends and acquaintances who’ve opted for a dry Christmas actually.
Meanwhile, have been enjoying champagne, a rather nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from the local offie, Baileys and Stones Ginger Wine.
A couple of nights ago had a few pints of Youngs seasonal ale, Angels, appropriately enough in a pub called the Angel and Greyhound.
ive been buying some proper ale type stuff like ‘goose island pale ale’ & ‘sierra nevada pale ale’ along w/ claret & chablis
Made greyhounds with fresh-squeezed grapefruit last night. Hit the spot.
not a fan of sweet drinks in general, but would drink ^^ bet it’s good w/hendricks
yeah i am always wary of anything containing syrup but a mission of mine has been to try making stronger syrups i can use less of. this might be a good place to start.
drinking this

woahhh
some friends brought me some of the Dogfish Robert Johnson’s Hellhound On My Ale as thanks for shoveling their walk while away for the holidays...it is very nice, crazy hoppy. the whole robert johnson thing makes me cringe a lil bit, but whatevs, good beer!
