Try as I might, I can’t stop laughing at the scene from Fletch Lives, where the Ku Klux Klan is standing outside of his estate, and you see him running around behind them in a bedsheet & a pillowcase. “Hi guys! I’m from the California chapter!”
I hope that whenever they finally get the 3rd movie in the can, they actually work on getting proper Gregory McDonald-style dialogue, and not from McDonald’s recent reactionary patriarchal bent.
Oh yeah, and IMDB says that Zach Braff will be the new Fletch, since Kevin Smith(and assumedly Jason Lee) won’t be doing it.
noooooooo! (that’s re braff.)
BAN BRAFF
I like Scrubs. Garden State = eh, OK. I think he could pull it off, but Braff could be to Fletch what Brosnan was to Bond.
i’m only friends with HIM because of turk
he’s the peggy hill of scrubs.
this is not a braff thread
“Hi guys! I’m from the California chapter!”
Fletch was some funny shit.
this is not a braff thread
cuz he’s got nothing to do with fletch except he’s the new fletch (rumored).
The thing I dislike most about the Fletch movies is the way the love interest snickers at his jokes. It breaks a wall, somehow, and makes the jokes seem really self-congratulatory. Like, she’s supposed to be the foil, but instead she’s the sounding board. Kinda ugly.
braff totally rubbish
Kevin Smith says that he received phone calls from John Cusack and Matthew Perry, who were both interested in playing Fletch.
I know Smith is no longer involved with the project, but I think Cusack would be a great Fletch.
Cusack, I think, could pull off the subtle mean-spirited-ness of the character much better than Braff or Perry, who I don’t think have a mean bone in their bodies.
Chevy was perfect for it, but no one reigned him in. That first one could have been a really good movie if he wasn’t treated like Robin Williams and allowed to crap all over the screen at whim.
this is not a Bodhisattva, let me take you by the hand thread
be awesome if it was
why isn’t smith doing it anymore?
because somebody shot him in his fat stupid gut. i hope.
I think Miramax was dragging too long on letting him do it with Jason Lee in the lead.

— Bodhisattva, let me take you by the hand (fluxion2...), Today. (later)
yeah but sometimes in comedies it’s weird when the lead character is making wisecracks and the person he’s with clearly doesn’t know how to react
wouldn’t his wisecracks land better if the people around him kept pretending he’s not so wise?
