A new career choice, Ally?
Laurel, do not pretend that you are unaware of how I roll.

gabbneb those are the most boring shoes ever in the history of man.
most comfortable shoes i’ve put on since the last similar pair i had, which were sort of medium-tannish-brown and which i walked holes into twice, the second time after resoling. these are rubber-soled, but lasted so’s you can’t tell unless you have your ankle on your knee or your foot in someone’s face or something.
air max 90 infrared

xpost: you pay a premium for boring
no, sorry: i bet you can buy any pair of rockports and they are just as comfortable and may look a 1000 times better

yes i would accept that bet. that’s admittedly a pretty bad picture. they’re beautiful in person.
as a former rockport wearer
they look like every shoe ever worn on the train from Greenwich CT to NYC M-F workin 9–5, what a way to make living. you can do better, really!
also ally otm, ooh la la!
Okay, true, true and true, but there’s a reason plain black cap-toe lace-ups are popular: they go with everything, they come in all price points/degrees of quality, and they make footwear for about 2/3 of your suits (excepting those in camel, seersucker or linen, and possibly navy) a non-issue.
I actually have thigh-high boots (though not cheap vinyl ones like that) that I have never, ever worn because, really, I don’t have a very good reason to be parading around in things like that. Waste of a significant chunk of money, so far.
XP to self: Altho anyone feel free to correct me. I don’t really understand menswear, I just felt like being all definite about that.
I think Mr. Que is just astounded that such a regular pick of shoes required a whole thread but I appreciate being able to post ridiculous shoes, so kudos to gabbneb
i totally agree Laurel. Every guy needs a pair like this for weddings and funerals but every day footwear does not have to be so boring. i guess what i am indirectly saying is, I’m glad I don’t have to wear a suit every day b/c then I’d have to wear dull shoes like these every day
laurel you’re pretty much correct but that doesn’t change the fact that those shoes are boring.
I like these shoes

also these shoes

I bought these yesterday. I am wearing them today and have nearly broken my neck three or four times.
do you have the black ones or the brown ones?
I am not sure if I like these 100%

because I don’t think I like what the sole is doing?
Anna those shoes remind me of this cookie

WTF

adorables!!!!!!
My last two pairs of shoes were both Dansko clogs—one in shiny black cabrio leather and one in brown suede. I fear hardcore footwear mockery should I ever meet Laurel or Ally in all my comfort-shoe wearing in person glory.
yeah they are some tough chicks. you don’t want to mess with them.
I’m actually a big fan of my backless white Dansko clogs for summer! They’re clunky and Hummel-footed with bare legs, and WHITE WHITE WHITE for that crisp look. And they make me about two inches taller without being heels.
Sometimes I wear sneakers!
I love those beige ones with the bow Ally posted. They tick a lot of favourite shoe feature boxes.
I’m actually a big fan of my backless white Dansko clogs for summer!
Yeah, see, I bought the black ones to wear with suits.
I need shoes like this because I live in snowy, icy hills, and cute shoes with big heels won’t get worn for another few months:

But these are so great!

I like those polka dot shoes Ally, I don’t think the sole thing would show when they’re on the feet. I bought the black ones. I’m wearing them with thick black tights, an orange 60s-style mini-dress and a black polo neck.

you need suede shoes to wear in the snow?!
I want these:

I want some Dansko clogs

I want some Dansko clogs
They are possibly the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn in my life. And they are good quality/easily repairable so you can keep them for a long time.
i want black leather vans.
ooh me too! I was just looking at them this morning.
i’m in danger of becoming a vans collector/hoarder.
it’s a punk rock shoe so they get real dirty
my b&w checkerboard ones have blood on them.
I was just quoting lyrics there. I try to keep mine pretty clean actually. ;)

mine are red though!
Nice!
yeah! a bit of a challenge to walk in but not as bad as you’d think. and I guess since the last ones went on sale or something they aren’t making any more tara subkoff for easy spirit shoes? too bad.. though they’re awfully expensive.. I got mine about 50% off. saw some girl outside indebleu sat night who had a grey platform pair, they were awesome
Yeah, I went and saw those when they had come out (not those specifically, Tara Subkoff I mean) but it was way too much, especially for shopping at a store I always swore I’d never purchase from purely on the basis of hating their old ads...they were a lot of cute though :(
they are pretty decent, but not $300 worth I think! mine were about $125.
Yeah, if they were in that range I would’ve considered the stuff there! I’ve got a barrier about shoes and it is about $200, usually.
no, sorry: i bet you can buy any pair of rockports and they are just as comfortable and may look a 1000 times better
actually, for less money i could have bought two (three, really) pairs of rockports in the two different sizes my feet are and picked out the right size shoe for each foot from each pair, and they still wouldn’t be as comfortable as the ones i got. also, you can tell that their dress shoes, unlike the sub-dress stuff they do best, are pretty much shite without even touching them.
as much as i might like to wear
or equivalent to work, they are, how you say, not professional-looking imo.
they look like every shoe ever worn on the train from Greenwich CT to NYC
lol, no we can’t have that, can we
Let’s be honest here: you basically started this thread to point out how much money you spent on a pair of fucking shoes, right?
Hahah. I’m not sure there’s anything wrong with that, though.
Let’s be honest here: you basically started this thread to point out how much money you spent on a pair of fucking shoes, right?
I started it as a gift to y’all, as you said upthread :)
ha gabnebb i, too, have two different sized feet. i can usually squeak by but it sounds like you’ve got a major problem. good thing you make lots of money as a lawyer though bro!
how the fuck do these rate $315 though
if they’re made well that’s a typical price isn’t it? most of the shoes i wear except trainers were over $300 originally (but I got them all either on big sale or abroad back when the exchange rate was really good)
Ally, your price cieling is about double mine.
i don’t like the kind with that weird ankle sock thing tho.
my feet are 1/2 size apart. the rockport almost-dress things (which are pretty good shoes) fit well enough, but i can’t quite get away with those any more. for real dress shoes, there’s a mid-range brand that’s hit or miss for me, but after i walked through my last pair of those i decided i didn’t want to deal anymore.

So. Many. Colors!

$35 for a pair of size 14s at the mall. Yay, I have spent my entire shoe budget for the year.
Sometimes I worry that my footwear choices haven’t changed since I was 13 and seriously considering getting a mohawk.
$35??

actually, for less money i could have bought two (three, really) pairs of rockports in the two different sizes my feet are and picked out the right size shoe for each foot from each pair, and they still wouldn’t be as comfortable as the ones i got.
hahahahaha alex OTM!
I got lucky. First place I looked were $110 without anything larger than a 12, second place had a 75% off sale and everything up to 16s.

The director of my large tech department wears docs everyday. usually with strangely patterned socks.
ahhh..gold suede

$659 though (@ 25% off!)
holy crap I must have those.
those are pretty fucking hot. not $659 hot but damn, pretty f’ing hot none the less.
shoes and hot don’t belong in the same sentence for me, but those are pretty tasteful as far as boots go
shoes and hot don’t belong in the same sentence for me
this sentence is just a bunch of words to me!
they probably are great if you dress like this:

this sentence is just a bunch of words to me!
sounds like someone needs a sandwich.
they were $898, so that makes them cheap, right?
I don’t know when I last got new shoes! Christmas in Michigan, probably. Still no boots for Laurel in 2007.
Anyway I could wear my motorcycle boots every day, probably, and be happy until spring. THEN the strappy heels come back out.
i haven’t bought new footwear since i bought my boots back in may. the boots i’m wearing today are like four years old.
I think I meant “a meaningless bunch of words.” so...hungry....
sunny, I use that line of reasoning more frequently than I care to admit.
they probably are great if you dress like this:
honestly, I think they’d look great with a white minidress. and not too ridiculously costumey.
These are not the shoes I bought today because I absent-mindedly put on brown shoes with black pants, but they are very close:
you need suede shoes to wear in the snow?!
of course not. however, when the snow’s off the roads and paths but they are still icy for weeks, it’d be stupid to walk around in heels with no traction, and i am getting sick of wearing my sneakers all the time.
emergency boot shopping this afternoon, as it turns out that i left my beloved tecnica moonboots in oh. i found a decent lookalike, although not quite as warm or comfortable (tecnica rules), and a pair of deeply discounted black suede slip-on vans as a bonus. i’m pretty happy.

I actually have thigh-high boots (though not cheap vinyl ones like that) that I have never, ever worn because, really, I don’t have a very good reason to be parading around in things like that. Waste of a significant chunk of money, so far.
Major x-post, but I don’t have a good reason either, and I do it anyway. (When my knee is not busted that is.)
I got these—very very comfy:
