Except I’d probably want him to draw animated gifs on napkins after we had drank all of this beers.

i think we should carry him around on a throne like ancient mayan king

Amanders can I just say that the notion of someone explaining to you what a churro is = quite hilarious.

haha

see that? that’s “turkey droppins”

Hello I just wanted to announce that we won a trial!

wooooooooooooooo go law

USA! USA! USA!!!!!

Which party was it that we called “Party till you puke”?

The Libertarian party?

Oh—I didn’t read Z S’s post. Good job, dog. There’s a Three Philosophers on me waiting for you when you come here.

by the time i get there it’s a possibility that my blood may actually contain more than 50% three philosophers! but in case i’m somehow walking and breathing, i’d take you up on that! :)

Sorry, we only serve Malort to out of town guests. But let us know when you’re coming and we’ll have your shot and your Blagojevich wig waiting.

OMG yes. What was I thinking.

Z S, do you know what Malort is?

It’s what puts the “puke” in Party Till You Puke.

holy shit, i don’t need to go near that stuff!

“yeah, i had finally nailed down that interview, bought a suit, everything was going fine until the night before in chicago, had some a few Malort Gimlets and before i knew what was going on i was in milwaukee and it was 4pm the next day

no regrets!!

No no. It’s not overly strong. It’s just very flavorful.

lol @ Malort gimlets

lol/barf

The lawyers invited me to go out for drinks after court, location TBD. The court order of closure came through a while ago, which means court is well over and now I’m getting a little bit

Oh god, speaking of, we’re having some interminable department holiday lunch next week and one of my coworkers is going to be on vacation. Since she would miss the big shindig, her boss said that he would take her out to lunch today. At about 1:00 pm, he packed up his stuff, wished everyone a good weekend, and left without mentioning their lunch plans.

They contacted me and i joined them and now there are 2 (welve) Bergopff beers in my gut pouch.

There were a lot of man hugs. The partner of Jackassery, Ltd. who i usually really revile hugged me most and most frequently. He sucks but he did OK today.

I’m not drunk tho and you can tell bc I’m on the Clark bus and not a cab.

I’m keyed up and lonely.

Sound tempting? Text me and I’ll give you a taste of that jelly.

jesse omg

that made me lol

post on my hablamos español thread now pls

Sí.

R’s work holiday party 2nite = open bar/food at HoB

words fail me now to explain the douchey weirdness of the owner/most of the people who work there but it was still pretty fun

What’s HoB? Is that H0m3 B1str0?

house of blues!?

in other news: beautiful snoo!

i am listening to this and making to-do lists for the next week

(not writing them on my hand tho)

It really is lovely snow!

I’ve been waiting to enjoy this day in my new apartment for a long time!

Though does anyone have advice about how to keep storm windows from steaming up? They are almost completely steamed over and it’s impeding my full enjoyment of this snow.

Stop being so hot

Open the windows.

Stop being so humid.

Truly wonderful.

I am a little freaked out by the crawling sloths and the bucket o’sloths, I have to say. I don’t want to drown them, necessarily, but I don’t think I want to go work at the sloth village, either.

that disappoints me quite a bit.

Cmon they are ADORABLE. The music is a bit quaint, but they (the sloths) are exemplary.

Those have been spotted on Northerly Island.

that disappoints me quite a bit.

You’re right. I’m sorry. I DO want to drown them.

We went to see Protomen (lol all ages show, we’re home by 9:00) and... they were kind of amazing.

All ages show and Protomen were the second band, I should say. We’d still be there if we stayed for the headline. But instead we came home to watch STAR TREK.

THAT’S RIGHT.

STAR TREK.

That picture of the Protomen is not from the Metro, obv, but it was the best representation of their live show, which is very theatrical and kind of bananas.

There is a mid-20s, normal, clean cut guy on this brown train carrying an half-drunk 1500 ml bottle of red wine. Just sat down, stretched and yawned loudly and amiably.

Now he’s drinking from the bottle and muttering.

Point is: Incongruous look + behavior.

Then there’s the late 40s guy who looks totally normal, except he rode and got off alone with two empty strollers.

I am stocking up on tea, orange juice, vitamin C, and airborne (even if those things dont work at all) today in the efforts of being the only one not sick at our house. The little one has croup and I can honestly say that hearing those coughs come out of your kid is frightening as hell.

Is the croup a specific thing or a name for a bad cough?

Even though I know there is no evidence that loading up on vitamin c or echinacea etc does any good, I do it anyway. (though actually maybe echinacea does something since doctors warn people with immunity problems to avoid it)

Anyway, good luck.

Its specific, but ultimately little more than a really horrible sounding cough. Its one of those things that sounds worse than it really is, because even in the middle of one his most horrifying sounding coughs last night, he was smiling and laughing about all the attention we were giving him.

da croupier

Sadly enough that display name did pop into my head at the doctor’s office early yesterdau morning.

sarah’s mom came into town ahead of them leaving for DC this morning, but she has had bronchitis so now i’m paranoid that one of us will get bronchitis. i was awake for about an hour at 3 a.m. because she was coughing in our living room and every time she coughed it sounded like someone firing a shotgun.

people please stop being sick, thanks

i am also getting sick today. sore throat/cough. :-/

btw i am just pretending i live in chicago now, hope that’s ok

that’s cool. we’ve had other regulars in these threads who don’t actually live in chicago.

Speaking of which — where has Jordan been lately?

(o not 0)

Yeah, I actually haven’t lived in the city for 4 years now.

evanston counts imo

or wait... skokie? waukegan? wisconsin?

it doesn’t look like Jordan’s been on ILX much at all recently, I know he’s doing a lot of music stuff (as usual).

Airborne is just a fizzy, drinkable version of Vit C.

My fave cold avoidance strategy besides washing my hands like an OCD sufferer is that at the first sign of getting stuffy, I take Sudafed (the real kind). It keeps my head clear and (gross alert) prevents my ears from getting clogged up, which seems to be the trick in avoiding ear infections, which is pretty much the endgame for any cold I catch.

Also, I think I’m going to resurrect whiskey and honey as a cough remedy now that I’ve read numerous articles about how cough medicine doesn’t actually do anything and thus ruined the placebo effect. Might as well just knock I myself out.

you should read the new yorker article about the placebo effect and how placebos work even if you know they’re placebos as long as you believe in the placebo effect. then the placebo effect will be restored.

the next time jordan is in chicago i am going to make sure to go to his show. does anyone know when that is?

also, i am in ohio, whee

jenny, also whiskey tastes waaaay better than cough syrup — skip the honey and do it up right

i believe in the placebo effect and i do believe i read that article

it’s why i can drink whiskey when i have a cold instead of increasing my zinc ions or w/e

^^^

Cough drops help, too. Placebo or glycerin/Mentho-Lyptus WHO KNOWS. And DON’T TELL ME. Because I can’t do shots of whiskey at work.

My office is full of zinc pushers and I don’t want to be all “SCIENCE SAYS THAT IS NONSENSE” but I also get tired of politely declining their zinc donations every time I sneeze.

Placebos working really depends on how you define “work”.

Belief or not.

the last shit-cold I had, about a month ago, gave me a whole new appreciation for hot toddies with lots of lemon and honey

evanston counts imo

Yeah, Evanston.

That New Yorker article was pretty interesting.

i don’t like it hot though

room temp toddy pls

Well a “room temperature toddie” just doesn’t sound as inviting, tbh.

to me it does!

i find hot liquor kind of repulsive

mulled wine, etc

I like Glogg, but I was kind of ho-hum on the warm sake I had the other night. (Chilled is better, IMO.)

Had Glogg at Simon’s on Friday after some xmas shopping and it was suitably festive.

Today is my last day before we leave for Connecticut and trying to care about work is proving to be very difficult.

breaking: i’m flying into chicago wednesday night, interviewing thursday (and up for a fap anytime after!), megabusing to st. louis on friday morning.

Good luck with the interview! Wish I could FAP, but I will be driving to Ann Arbor Thursday night, weather permitting.

I am getting my hair done, which feels like a vain endeavor that I should gladly cast aside in favor of fellowship and libations but if I reschedule I won’t be able to get another apt for at least a month and lord, you should see my roots now.

If y’all go somewhere nearby, I will stop by after.

Which is code for “Jesse, organize this at Delilah’s.”

whoa, good luck with the interview Z!

i miiiiiiiiight be able to FAP on Thursday depending on how prepared i am to leave on friday (mainly how clean my apartment is).

i would be willing to do delilah’s

good luck ZS!

Z, where are you staying? Do you want to meet at Delilah’s? It’s right by Jenny’s house, so you should just crash at her place.

Delilah’s http://g.co/maps/t7rdt

Where are you staying?

i’ll most likely be staying with a friend around Logan Square for Thursday night, but i still need to ask about that!

Hey, my neighborhood! You guys should hang out there, there are cabs now.

(good luck Z)

that list just seems like “every book published by a chicago-area author (except amanda’s husband) in 2011”

i’m flexible on time and location for a thursday night fap. it looks like Delilah’s is pretty close to where i’m staying anyway, but if people want to try another place that’s cool too.

SO NERVOUS

Delilah’s is convenient to Logan Square and if it gets Jenny there, I’d vote for it (it’s right across the street from Jenny’s beauty parlor).

I’m going to be in MN so idgaf really, have fun!

Good luck, by the way.

There are more cabs in Logan Square than there used to be, possibly. The trendy restaurants have attracted more of them. Dan, your mention of it reminded me of something I know I told Katie, but I don’t remember if I mentioned elsewhere.

One Sunday evening this spring, I left Katie’s house, and because of the Diversey bus’ ABSURD Sunday night schedule (stops running between the lake and Logan Square Blue line at 8 p.m. Sunday nights), I was stuck at Logan Square. I wandered and waited at the CTA stop for 1/2 hour and there were no cabs, so I called one to pick me up at Diversey and Kedzie. When I got in the cab, he said “What are you doing here??” I told him I was visiting a friend, to which he responded that “You are a very good friend if you come here,” and then went on talking about cab drivers not liking that area.

As much shit as I’ve talked about Logan Square, I was really surprised at that guy’s opinions. At the Square itself, there are a lot of bars and restaurants that would bring people to the area, and it wasn’t like he was picking me up in front of a smoldering crack house.

Not to mention the fact that I’m brown. It’s not like he was picking up an Hitler’s wet dream.

Though what do I know about Hitler’s wet dreams. Maybe he creamed his lederpajamas over young brown studs like me.

yeah I think you told that story, that cab driver is a tard

USPS LOLz

As I was leaving for lunch at ~ 1:15, the line for the PO in my building was out the door and around the corner by the entrance to the GNC (so like half a block long). There was ONE cashier, and before her stood a man yelling (I could hear him as I walked past the open door) and waving his arms frantically.

On the way back from lunch, the line was out the door of the PO but no longer curled around by the GNC. There were two cashiers.

I’ve been forced to go to the Post Office twice in the past few days, and, yeah, it’s been crazy. But I prepared myself (girded my loins, if you will) as best as I could and it was okay.

I was just on hold w/ our credit card company and this song was playing

I just sneezed something terrifying onto my sleeve. HI!

work is nuts today, what’s up with that
