Kayaking

Drove a motor boat

Visited Albania

Bought a house

Did my first pregnancy test

Ginger Wine

Tapas

I went kayaking too, but it wasn’t new. It was really good fun though!

New things, erm—I don’t know. Went to ATP (I’d only been to Bowlie). Stayed in a backpackers hostel. Left a job on a point of principle. Drank cider with a slice of lemon in it. Moved to a new seat at Celtic Park (goodbye Upper Lisbon Lions stand, you were warmer, but now I have someone to go and buy me coffee when it is cold). Got business cards (that might have been the back end of 2005, actually). Attended a christening. Held a newborn baby. Agreed to my first transatlantic flight.

Lived in a city. Lived in a foreign country where I sort of spoke the language, in fact. Watched an animal get slaughtered before eating it. Cooked all sorts of new dishes. Sort of learned to interview people. Semi-randomly hooked up. Saw a band I liked. Wrote my own course syllabus.

Not nearly enough, actually. I would like to be able to say lots more.

Became a freelancer. Visited Berlin. Went dog sledding in the wilds of Canada. Had a boyfriend on NYE. Cooked some new dishes. Saw Take That at WEMBLEY (my pre-teen dream come true)!!

Absolutely nothing new in ’06.

Approaching the Xmas time, tried living enveloped by the rainbow-rich stench of a trapped-escaped-then-dead-&-rotting-&-not-to-be-found mouse somewhere in my very own kitchen.

Hadn’t happened to me before, at least not round Xmas thankyouverymuch.

bein’ homeless

making christmas pudding

mexico

getting dumped 2x by same person

good riddance 2006

Carrying a coffin :-(

Korean Food.

Watching a chemical factory explode.

Attended A&E for an injury to myself. Been a few times with other people.

Had a pet hamster.

Started learning to make changes work for me ‘stead of dreading them. New apartment fell into place beautifully despite all my avoidance of the moving issue; have to keep frame of mind for job unrest, too.

Was pallbearer for grandmother(had to be done). Saw the Mountain Goats(twice! -wi). Saw new Seattle library(wi). Had separated shoulder(nwi). Saw Sonic Youth(wi). Walked/rode bike to work on regular basis(wi). Fell off shoes and smacked face on sidewalk in front of small crowd at medium-sized Indian casino(nwi). Learned to use neti pot to wash out interior of head(wi). Cooked everything possible in cast iron(wi). Saw actual Las Vegas show(Danny Gans—nwi). Rode in limo(wi because someone else paid for it). Moved to never-before-lived-in-by-anyone house(wi). Saw daughter receive master’s degree(wi). Introduced husband to ex-husband(had to be done). Worked with -280 deg F nitrogen system and 480 vac power(scary but wi). Bought more CDs in one month than in past 5 years(jury is still out).

Purchased my first home. Helped take charge on my first move without Dad around to help. Actually started taking care of my nails for the first time — and as a result I actually HAVE decent nails to speak of. Attended my first author’s speaking engagement, which was TOTALLY BEYOND worth it. Had my first non-dental surgery with just a local (& now I know I can get through it). Stopped trying to pretend to be someone else to get people to like me, started being who I really am. (Scared some people off but they were the minority.) Saw a cousin of mine be elected to our state senate, which is the highest office any of my family have ever even aspired to. Took my first iPod out for a spin on the day after Christmas (!!!!!). All in all, a pretty awesome year. And no close family members passed away either, which makes a change.

Yoga. And now I can do this without wobbling!

Okay, I did do something new in 2006 — I cured my own gravlax. But I didn’t find out how it turned out until 30 minutes ago — EXCELLENT.

Hair teasing, children’s librarianship, and tea coffee or coffee tea.

Moved somewhere new for a job. Resulting adjustment to radically different culture.

Cohabitation with my GF.

Surfing.

Spent the holidays away from family.

Was a best man (hardly counts as it was an eloping at the courthouse thing.)

Saw my sister get married (different wedding).

Stopped being vegan after six years.

I think 2006 is all about effort—trying—for me. I tried, very hard. And in some ways I failed.Nothing new about that!

I learned a lot.

I tried to learn. That’s the new thing I tried to do.

i forgot two things:

I started making DJ mixes

ILX!!!!

alcohol

(as did turning 19—really, wtf happens when you’re 19?)
