No Matter What It Is!
Just finished a bottle of Maison Louis Latour 2005 Pinot Noir. Starting in on a bottle of Rodney Strong 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. Wish me luck!
panty ripper
2nd tanq & tonic thank you very much
bottle of 2004 black mountain vineyard shiraz
Bottle of some crappy Australian shiraz marked down from 10 bucks to 5, now starting a guinness, which I don’t really like all that much. I bought a 4 pack of it cause it was on sale :).
i just had some minute maid orange/passion fruit juice, it was tasty and smooth.
glass of water.
cel-ray (in dreams)
large glass of cheap red wine (irl)
skim milk
water
today, in order: coffee, water, coffee, red wine (at work! at noon! poured by a senior boss type person!), water, mint tea, red wine (at home — sangiovese, to be more specific)
tonight: 3xyuengling, 2xshots 1800 tequila (GREAT!!), blue moon, bass ale
leinies
MOUNT GAY RUM
(excluding water, cuz I can’t keep track) One shot straight espresso, one single-shot cappucino, one glass fresh-squeezed OJ, one black tea w/milk and honey, two glasses Argentinian Malbec, one hot Almond Milk tea w/tapioca.
I’m very excited about the 2000 Chateau Geuze Buzet we have for Xmas.
oh hey think about today: tall glass of oj that wasn’t really because all the real oj had sunk to the bottm so i just got the not-sweet top, coffee, water, rum and soda
i’m really excited about the bottle of flor de cane~ 23 year i’ll get tomorrow
Six bottles of some random pilsner from Lidl
Two pints of allegedly Christmassy Brains ale
Glass of bit-too-sweet white wine
Coffee
Completely horrible concentrated orange juice
I really hope I get some decent whisky tomorrow, I didn’t ask anyone for any but it’s a kind of default present
Lots of Vimto cordial.
A couple of shots of Sainsbury’s generic Baileys-clone.
Pacing myself, party mode starts in earnest this evening.
virgil’s root beer! i avoid most things called root beer like the plague because they’re so watered down and crappy, but this one tastes like it was strained through a friggin’ tree.
i had a disappointing experience with reed’s cherry ginger brew, which tasted like ant poison and ginger ale.
If you drink Aussie shiraz—chances are I probably urinated on the vines it came from (esp. if it is a McLaren Vale ‘un).
I just had a bit of port that’s been sitting around in my stepdad’s “cellars” for a couple of decades and booyah, that perked me up.
Coke Zero, remarkably fizzy for being first opened two days ago. Coffee and orange juice. Later today: beer and yay aquavit with the xmas hog.
Gatorade Frost—Riptide Rush
I’m alternating madeira and ginger wine whilst using the former in a trifle.
yesterday: lots of water, a latte, 2002 chateau reysson, 1994 stirling vineyard cabernet.
today so far: lots of water, diet coke (fountain, w/ lots of ice). i’m going to start on the johnnie walker in an hour and a half or so, when i start cooking.
2003 Wlegegund Carignan from the Western Cape
so far—half a bottle of white Rioja (Hernandez) and best part of a litre of Ginger beer, plus a glass of Innocent smoothie (pomegranate, blueberry and acai
scotch n soda
chateau de maniban bas armagnac
Several mugs of mulled wine, couple of cans of Grolsch, vodka & fruit twist.
i am rocking three buck chuck but i might sneak out so i can make some gimlets tonight
Hitting some cold Becks right now. I can vouch for Mount Gay rum—favourite tipple of my honorary aunt from Trinidad, and it tastes as rich and subtle as a good single malt.
i had some chamomile grappa(http://www.sherry-lehmann.com/wines.asp?productid=9153),tons of walmart coffee, little plastic bottle of Makers Mark and pot spit.
black coffee!
and merry x-mas eve, brother dear.
I once drank a st john’s wort grappa with this man:

Guinness
Whisky (can’t remember)
more Guiness
can’t rmemeber
coffee
zzzz!!
water water and more water. the only good drink ever.
haha boring nerd, i am drinking lots fo wine ana wathing it’s a wonederful lifr
Pete’s Wicked Ale Strawberry Blond, #2
’94 beringer cabernet. my father will open bottles at the drop of a hat, and i love him.
half a bottle of this

but now i’m out of xmas booze and i wish i had more
earlier i imbibed:
1 cup coffee
2 glasses diet coke
1 glass apple cider (non-alc)
i almost bought some traquair coriander beer yesterday, but i had a sudden and uncharacteristic frugality attack.
My greatest ever night, for which I set myself the challenge of getting completely hammered for the first time in, well, months, happened a few weeks ago. A compendium of the carnage:
1x pint of Grolsh, downed
3x shots (proper-sized shot-glasses too) of Wood’s Old Navy Rum (the most poisonous drink I’ve ever tried, makes absinthe seem like orange juice, 57% proof), downed all within 5 seconds and within a minute of the Grolsh
1x pint of Grolsh, downed a minute after that
-a very slight gap to recover-
1x half-pint of Bailey’s mixed with Guinness until curdled, downed (actually not as horrendous as it sounds)
1x pint of Smirnoff Ice and Blue WKD mixed together, downed within 30 seconds of the previous
2x small bottles of Cobra, drunk over the space of about half an hour between the end of the Smirnoff Ice/blue WKD and my inevitable rendez-vous with the mens’ lavatory.
Then the occasional lapse into unconsciousness, captured here at a particularly grotesque juncture (worsened by some scandalous razor-neglect):

All in all, not my finest hour. One I’m strangely proud of, nonetheless.
unfortunately i don’t have any smirnoff ice or old navy rum in the house so i am finishing the rodney strong cab i started last nite. then on to bigger and better wines!
I lie about Wood’s being the worst. The worst was actually either the chilli vodka I once inadvisably downed at a party or the Czech liquor that topped 80% proof and couldn’t be drunk more than about a millilitre a sip.
Wines, Scott, such as...?
slivovitz??
might have been, but I think the title might have been shorter. It was a dull browny-reddish colour (with a hint of orange) and tasted initially of very sweet aniseed. But then it burned. How it burned...
everyithing is going according to plan
George bailey is kickiing so much ass, he gave zuzu’s petals a drink. that sounds like a ood idea to me
!
“slivovitz??”
hahaha
er, i can’t remember what wines i bought. i got enough for tomorrow nite too cuz everything will be closed. i will dutifully note them on this thread as i drink them.
slivovitz is a real drink! my parents had some in hungary or romania or something. they bought a bottle back in the states but they said it wasn’t as good.
for some reason i thought you were referencing the vodka in that art school movie. i thought that was the brand. was that the brand? i’m all confused now. was it even vodka?
it’s plum brandy. also spelled sliwowitz.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliwowitz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slivovitz
(and yeah it’s the stuff from art school confidential)
OKay! so i’m not crazy.
I used to occasionally sneak slivovitz from my parents supply. They never seemed to even open the cabinet, let alone drink. It’s pretty tasty though!
Today:
1 not-so-great espresso shot (my fault)
Fresh Lemonade at Hummus Place
Turkish Coffee, also at Hummus Place
I think that was it.
MUNDANE NOODLE
coffee in the morning
bear republic hop rod rye ale just now
more coffee
coffee early
OJ at lunch
my dad’s muscadine wine at dinner
’94 beringer cabernet. my father will open bottles at the drop of a hat, and i love him.

MINDMELDIN’
some (but not enough) water, more skim milk, Korbel champagne—extra brut
I promised Hannah I’d go to church this morning, I think I’m opening the Cava now to get myself in the mood.
Oh, and HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!! all y’all.
just the glass of smoothie so far, not sure how soon to crack into the Corsendonck Xmas ale which looks awesome, but a scary 8.5%
We’ve got some cracking looking wines too—including a smashing looking Chateau Brown
a lovely cup of tea in the mug from my secret santa.
Bruno Paillard Rose
water, equal exchange low-acidity coffee.
La motte 1996 millenium
Chateau de Geuze 2000
Dom Brial 2002 Muscat de Rivesaltes
Shade-grown fair-trade organic coffee from Nicaragua.
I’ve been making my espresso with a Kenya AA from a roaster here, but it hasn’t been working so well.
‘Othello’ (a Cypriot wine made by the goodfolk of Keo)
haha tons of pink lemonade at the movies (“happy feet” OMG best movie evar)
Chateau de tariquet armagnac
i only had a little bit of gin left, not enough for a full g&t, so i added a couple splashes of campari to the gin, added the lime, and had a very christmasy looking gin/campari/tonic/lime concoction. is this an actual established drink??? anyway, tastes good :)
more wine more wine more wine
I had a framboise cold in the fridge and decided to drink it, but bummed out because we don’t have any chocolate cake in the house to go with it.
wine wine wine!
specifs: simi alexander valley 2003 cab
At the bar tonight:
1 Smithwick’s
1 Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale—this is one of the worst beers I’ve ever had. It tastes like melted vanilla ice cream.
1 shot Jameson
i think perhaps the problem with xmas drinking is having too many drinks to fit in—most evenings here have featured 8+% beer, then champagne, monbazillac (accompanying foie gras), red wine, generally fortified dessert wine, then spirits.
HERE’S the little bastard: http://www.stroh.co.uk/stroh/stroh_original.htm#80
Quite, quite bracing stuff.
Mondo Chardonnay. Mondo Ernst Gallo Zinfandel Blush. A likkle wodka & mango & pineapple juice. Molto gin & ginger ale.
Sierra Nevada Celebration 2006 Ale. It’s okay enough but meh.
2 Strongbow Drys so far, which considering it’s only 1pm is pretty good going eh.
Yeah, I also found the Sierra Nevada Celebration to be on the better side of meh.
I’m now drinking my last Cooper’s Extra Strong Vintage Ale, which I put in the same category.
A glass of skim milk.
A 20 oz bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper.
A 12 oz can of Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi.
A mug of apple cinnamon tea sweetened with one packet of Sweet & Low + one packet of Equal.
And lots of lovely water.
Thus speaketh the ILX Teetotal.
two peachy-orangey vodka concoctions and a tequila shot at friend’s house, cappuccino at cafe afterwards, teensy nightcap of sorta skunky soco to accompany pre-bedtime (and -ILX-posting) reading
I like reading this thread right now when I’m too sick to drink booze.
1x half-pint of Bailey’s mixed with Guinness until curdled, downed
In the states we have this thing called “Irish Car Bomb” which is similar, it is half a shot each of Bailey’s & whiskey in a shot glass, dropped into a 3/4 full pint of Guiness, which is supposed to be chugged before it curdles. Way fun.
1 glass Edna Valley chardonnay
1 glass Chateau La Roche bordeaux which was a bit too dry for me
1 glass MonteVina red zin—very nice
1 more glass Edna Valley chardonnay
Dickel & Dew.
Together & individually. Poifect for video gamery.
Had some Twin Fin Pinot Noir today. Awful. An undercurrent of Kool-Aid beneath the most generic “red wine” taste I’ve ever had. It’s not the worst wine I’ve drunk in that it wasn’t spoiled or anything, but at $9 I was expecting more.
ATRE JELLOW SHOTS BEVERADGES
1 bottle killian’s
2 cans pbr
2 bottles troeg oatmeal something
1 bottle sam adams
1 bottle mike’s hard lemonade
COLLEGE
New Years libations:
1 coffee from friend’s french press
shared bottle of Ravenswood Red Zin
shared bottle of Berringer Cab
Several Bud Lites
Korbel Brut straight from the bottle
I am drinking Full Moon Pale Rye Ale* from the bottle and chasers of Wild Turkey Rye.
Better than Champagne, you effete sonsabitches!
* because I like a beer that’s like me: red, bitter, cold, and thick-headed.
Had some Tiziano 2003 Chianti tonight. Much better than the Twin Fin.
flat seltzer water is sad
3 scotch (Johnnie Walker Red) straight up
2 Summit Ale (large)
That kind of night huh?
Sorry I didn’t make it for the Giant’s game dude. Have a good New Year’s? (xpost)
That kind of night huh?
*hic* Yes, over five hours. THAT IS HOW I ROLL. (Food also occurred.)
Oh, I was talking to forks, but that’s cool. I’m glad you had “that kind of night.” I did too—actually maybe best New Year’s I’ve ever had.
Two 20-oz bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper.
A quart of iced tea sweetened with “two pink, one blue” and including two wedges of lemon squeezed in.
A 12-oz can of Diet Coke.
A glass of water.
A tiny little sip of some sparkling white wine, which is all I could choke down because I just cannot drink alcohol even if I really wanted to (& I did this time, because it’s family tradition to imbibe in at least a little bit of the fizzy stuff for New Year’s Day).
A small serving of sparkling grape juice, when I gave up and decided to reach for the non-alcoholic stuff (that was bought for the kids, but oh well).
We had 11 for NYE (7 adults 4 children) and we got through.
2 x champagne
4 x sainsbury’s vintage cava (which i am slightly addicted to esp. at £4.99!)
2 x red wine
2 x white wine
5 Gin and Tonics
2 Margaritas
4 bottles of Sol
2 Laphroigs
And that was just the kids...boom boom!
Actually they drunk J20s of various revolting types.
Nothing too excessive I think. Obviously we are getting old.
no alcohol at all yesterday! Just a lot of sleep, carrot juice and cocoa.
New Year’s Eve, at home:
Young’s Oatmeal Stout
Sam Smith’s Oatmeal Stout
Drambuie snifter
at Big Bang (a bangers and mash resturant in Jericho, Oxford):
three pints of Hook Norton’s christmas ale
at the Zodiac (the club where I saw the New Year in):
multiple pints of Guinness (I can’t remember how many)
a whisky and soda
