The great Decembrists “shred-off”. Most of it left me with a gape-on.

I was disappointed in the Kissinger inclusion but OTOH it looked like he had to be strapped into his chair and spoke with great effort so maybe he is about to die.

I didn’t think it was sad at all—maybe overdone but I laughed at a bunch. Basically the whole episode was an overblown musical “contest” between Colbert and the Decembrists (really just their lead guitarist) with lots of inexplicable “guest stars”.

Pitchfork has a decent write-up of the goings-on, although they fail to mention that in addition to the ridiculous amount of guest stars on the program itself, the whole show was dramatically introduced by Morley Safer. I liked the Apples in Stereo song and all the initial schtick, but once Kissinger appeared it went to this weird uncomfortable place. Like, I guess “Stephen” the character would be thrilled to have Kissinger on his show, but the episode was so goofy I wasn’t really prepared to be deconstructing his in-character vs. out-of-character motives and it just came off icky.

Yeah without Kissinger it would have been goofily funny (not hilarious, but good-natured), but the inclusion of Kissinger was so weird and discomfiting that I didn’t know how to react and it made me feel unclean for the rest of the show. Morley Safer was the best part, I thought.

No Charlene, but AiS was all about hating on bears, and appeared to be performed by a bear (but in possibly AN Other sense of the word).

I believe in killing animals with extreme cruelty if it’ll make a good movie, but not in making Kissinger funny.

Don’t worry Dan. Knowing Comedy Central it will be repeated fifty gazillion times while they are on winter vacation.

ok the weird thing about the ep was that it totally fit with character and had a couple of amusing bits but it really was just not funny on the whole, it was just this almost like character development exercise? also I am not a fan of decemberists or apples in stereo so whatev.
