For my money The Killer is a better movie. I didn’t give a fuck about anybody in Hard-Boiled and overall it felt like overlong (admittedly very cool) action sequences strung together by overlong boring interludes.
i havent seen the Killer, but chow yun fat in Hard Boiled rapping to the little baby he’s rescuing in is kinda funny
The Killer, easy—better story, stronger characters.
The Killer, but Full Contact is better than anything Woo ever did.
My favorite thing about The Killer was the fact that the ‘hold the gun to each other’s head’ scene which I’d seen stills of beforehand was indeed as funny as said stills promised.
And yes to Full Contact.
“I didn’t give a fuck about anybody in Hard-Boiled. . .”
I CRIED WHEN MAD DOG BIT IT! He died with honor.
The Killer is a better movie, but Hard-Boiled is probably the best intro to HK action flicks out there.
haha yeah I was gonna mention Full Contact is more fun than both too!
hard boiled rules you dimbulbs
Only seen Hard Boiled, and then only once (recently); it was unfortunately a dubbed copy, lending some unintentional hilarity to some scenes (especially the one in a lift in the hospital when there is an exchange of flowers), but detracting vastly from the other speaking scenes. Still some utterly spectacular set-pieces, though, it must be said.
The clarinet moment 2 seconds into the movie was actually the highlight, being the most awesome thing I’ve seen in film for some time.
Hard Boiled by several light years, if only for Mad Dog and the shootout on the yacht.
The Killer is a steaming pile of your mother’s effluence compared to Hard Boiled. What do you mean you didn’t care about anyone in it?! When I first saw Tony in the yacht at the end I was so pleased.
Also Hard Boiled’s original title was God of Guns if I remember correctly. That’s amazing.
Full Contact is better than anything Woo ever did.
that said, i agree that HB is more entertaining, but it lacks the hueg cheesy operatic moments, like when the madonna statue gets shot
Full Contact was the first HK action film I ever saw. I will never be over it. That said, Bullet in the Head wins EVERYTHING.
that clip is masterful
Hard-Boiled is probably the best intro to HK action flicks out there.
OTM. Was “Bullet in the Head” the Vietnam one?
i guess the killer is more poignant and all that faggoty nonsense, but Hard Boiled is more fun and polished imho. the last hour is basically just an action scene, with occasional pauses for dialogue so dudes can reload. AWESOME.
also one of my chingchong friends told me that Hard Boiled’s original title translates to SPICY-HANDED GOD OF COPS. that alone should give it the edge.
i remember the first time i saw the killer, i thought chow-yun fat shot that one dude’s arm off when he was leaning out of the car in the parking garage shootout. but it ended up just being a piece of the car. ; (
