Johann has been called “a Stalinist” and “beneath contempt” by Noam Chomsky, ‘Horrible Hari’ by Niall Ferguson, “an uppity little queer” by Bruce Anderson, ‘a drug addict’ by George Galloway, “fat” by the Dalai Lama and “a cunt” by Busted.
dud. i mean there is *no-one* more dud. matt dc asked yesterday if i liked anything. i would gladly like *everything* and still hold this warmongering fuckwit in contempt.
i suppose his editor is more of a fuckwit for giving him a platform. but he knows *nothing*. he’s a positive menace.
DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
DUD DUD DUD DUD FUCKING A THOUSAND TIMES DUD—this cannot be emphasised enough.
also, so pompous with it.
nuclear holocaust in three seconds
also: poor man’s carmody
uh?
is he?
I always liked that Popbitch story which concerned him texting Stephen Fry, by mistake, saying something like “my cock your mouth five minutes”. It was certainly more illuminating than anything I ever read by him
HISTORY’S GREATEST MONSTER
Seriously though, pretty awful.
Funny looking.
Also dud.

Fat pompous ill-informed dud.
[Insert cheap and easy Passantino zing here]
“my cock your talvin singh smile five minutes”
I feel a bit ill.

Put your cash on the table where I can see it Mr Martian.
Er, he’s a friend of mine, and general all-round good egg, so, er, classic.
could you prevail on him to follow fellow cantab wittgenstein’s dictum, ‘of that which we cannot speak, thereof we must be silent’, w/r/t world affairs, etc.?
I remember his article about how he went to an Islamic anti-Judaism hate rally and instead of arguing with the activists tried to seduce them instead, succeeding with ‘a real cute one named Mo’.
The psycho-sexual power issues there are endless...
no, they’re amazingly limited!
like ‘the real cause of anti-semitism is sexual repression’. hey welcome to 1902, vienna, pull up a chair!
I was thinking more along the lines of how he’d managed to sexually subjugate his ideological rival by forcing him into a union his beliefs would forbid, thus (in his eyes) demonstrating the impotency of the other man’s ideas, and their willingness to acquiesce to latent homosexual lust, literally sleeping with the enemy (Jewish and gay). It’s quite sinister if you look at it that way.
quite lame, i think you mean!
oh, the zings.
i mean, that’s what i said, but in a slightly convoluted (yet using fewer words) way.
also: poor man’s carmody
qft.
i don’t get it.
my cock your critique of thatcherite values apparent in bbc three counties radio trailers 1988–1991 five minutes
rain check?
I believe that costs extra.
These days it’s more like my cock kenneth wolstenholme’s mouth five minutes
(And you wonder why people thought Esteban Buttez was a Passantino sockpuppet.)
this thread = all over
Yeah, come on, somebody who knows Johann Hari has posted on the thread, which makes it bad form to continue discussing him.
Perhaps we could find a less contentious journalist to denigrate, like Sophie Heawood.
oh snap!
Please, carry on, don’t mind me.
never heard of him
his recent two columns on palestine seem ok enough. look i know he’s a hawk but jesus fellas. am i missing something? i guess i never have to see him on tv.
o rly?
please to parse this:
“Coining one of the dullest clichés about the Middle East, Abba Eban, one of Israel’s longest-serving foreign ministers, famously claimed “the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity”. Precisely the opposite is the case. As the Fatah President Abu Mazen tried desperately this Saturday to dislodge Hamas by calling for early elections, we need to remember a stark truth. Every time the Israeli government rejects a Palestinian leader because he is too hard-line, they do not get a cuddly Gandhian moderate in his place. They get somebody more hard-line still.”
here is what i got from it:
first sentence: vague. i guess i just haven’t heard this ‘cliche’ before; but even then, the ‘cycle of violence’ is a duller cliche. and it sort of implicates the coiner in the dullness/clicheness, which is unfair.
second sentence: throw-down, ooh, this’ll be good.
third sentence: where are we? second sentence need backing up don’t you think? especially because this third sentence sort of backs it up. but we’re on to another stark truth. will this be reasoned out?
fourth and fifth sentences: wow what a startling revelation. i will not forget this stark truth, not in 1x hurry.
is there a columnist alive who survives close reading?
weak defense, i know.
“talk to hamas or things will get worse” + a few examples = ok enough
each nation gets the gay patrician hawk columnist it deserves. i guess.
