1. Military Madness will be coming out for the Wii VC.

2. Best Buy is releasing held-back Wii shipments this weekend, rumors are 40 units+ per store that they’ve been shoring up to boost sales.

haha. i just envision a legion of nerds converging on the stores like violent, junk-sick addicts, beating up store managers for holding out on them.

Update: These Tactics Arena children are little bastards. Now that I’m getting better, they all seem to avoid actually losing or surrendering by disconnecting from the server instead. Or else as soon as you kill one character they like, they just end the damn game. MAYBE I’M OLD-FASHIONED, kids, but where I come from, you start losing a game, you have the damned dignity to play it out a little, maybe learn a thing or two, and give the other guy the fully earned satisfaction of kicking your weaselly little 12-year-old ass.

New conversational highlights:

THEM: my other account has like 1200 xp

ME: My other car is a Ferrari.

THEM: yea right what year and model

ME: It’s an 1824 special edition.

ME: From before cars were even INVENTED.

THEM: well if yr driving it then it must be a piece of crap

THEM: if it was worth nething u’d keep it in a glass case

ME: I have four others in a glass case.

THEM: i drive a honda

nabisco I need to put these into photo-comics on my flickr account

Someone needs to give these kids a sitcom.

hah nabisco, you have discovered the first law of playing games on the internet

your opponent is an insufferable, spoiled 13-year-old. everything else follows from this:

1. your opponent will disconnect to avoid “actually” losing.

1a. the chances of this are roughly tripled if there is any kind of win/loss record-keeping or ranking system.

2. your opponent will accuse you of using “cheap” tactics. for a short while you will attempt to reason with them and fail 100% of the time.

etc

Okay, one last, including the thing I’m most embarrassed about:

THEM: how old r u

ME: 29

THEM: omg old

ME: How old are YOU?

THEM: i’m almost 18, 17 now but i’ll be 18 in a month

ME: I’m not your Congressman, dude, chill out.

THEM: ???

haha

I finally got Viewtiful Joe. Fucking hell, this game is hard.

Isn’t it though? I have never made it past the big shark guy. Ever.

I can only dream of reaching the big shark guy. I think I’m still on the menu page.

hahaha

My son loves that game, especially the way it sounds like Joe is saying his own name when he jumps (Joe-HWOOO!).

Good lord, this teenager drama shit is fucking hilarious.

I’m stifling my laughter so my sick niece won’t ask why I’m rolling on the floor and choking.

Nabisco’s tales are exactly why I don’t have any interest in online multiplayer gaming. I would rather play my friends or just play alone than engage in any way in a discussion with the hordes of little shits who live there. If that makes me elitist or aloof, then fuck it.

Ding ding ding!

Yahoo games is full of people who disconnect rather than lose. There’s a “force forfeit” option where you can declare yourself the winner after 3 minutes of inactivity/sodding off, and it won’t let you close the window without forfeiting, but lots of people will go to the trouble of pressing ctrl alt delete and make you wait three minutes out of spite. A few times, before Yahoo thankfully changed things to stop stuff like this happening, I was in canasta games where people were viewing their ratings every 30 seconds to appear active to the server whilst refusing to play and lose a few points on their ratings.

In Runescape I always have the chat turned off, it’s much better.

while i’m going down memory lane: a game i loved on my family’s first computer, a 386. MINES OF TITAN.

http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=729

the reason being, there was one town in it that was supposed to be more vanilla and peaceful, so the random encounters were more civilian. but there was always a chance that any encounter would turn violent right away, no matter how advanced you were. so you would have to, at some point, fight off a family or group of unarmed bums that jumped you.

SUCCESS.

Isn’t it though? I have never made it past the big shark guy. Ever.

I lucked him the first time around after a bazillion attempts and now on the “fight all the bastard bosses again” level I just have no clue what to do with him :(

Oh, and hello again everyone :) Thanks for noticing I wasn’t here!

are there any DS/GBA games with actually good narratives? or are they all merely of the generic japanese “don’t worry about a coherent plot” quality?

YAY! After numerous calls and visits to shops I found a Wii. I couldn’t wait till christmas to give it (to my husband, not Ophelia). But of course I realized soon I should have gotten an extra remote. Tonight we will PLAY TENNIS.

Kingfish, you’re after Phoenix Wright! Sure, it’s more like a book with questions at the end of each chapter than a game, but it sure is brilliant.

Congrats Nathalie :) Did you get Zelda?

I want Sandbox ILG now. Even Teadrinkers and 1P3 have their own Sandbox board. Plz 2 have?

Just got the call. I can go pick up my Wii tomorrow. Can’t wait!

xxpost: No, not yet. But soon! :-) HURRAH.

I just got to the end of the first Dungeon on Twilight Princess. Man, 5 hours of play to that point. :( Maybe I’m just slow. Still, maybe the game is really long too?

Oh yeah, I rolled a 214 on Wii Bowling! I’m sure someone will trump my score though...

So how does that Wii friends thing work? Do you guys do it? Apparently you have to go online and can make friends or something? I AM METALMUZAK

I’ve no idea. I think you have to do it online, and get a friend code (like on the DS), but I don’t know anyone else with a Wii...

I just bought the Gamecube Zelda—phear my retro skillz.

I gave my Gamecube and games to my gf, but I kept Windwaker and the Zelda Collection for the Wii. :)

Finished The Warriors missions last night. Great atmosphere in the game if it all seemed a little easy!

UPDATE: I owe an apology to the users of Tactics Arena. Last night I met nothing but kind, lovely people, including one guy who purposefully walked his last character into a trap (so I wouldn’t have to waste time coming to finish him), and a nice guy from the Phillipines who told me “Koreans are like Starcraft gods here” and whose non-idiomatic English provided the most touching online chat ever:

HIM: how old are you?

ME: 29

HIM: you’re like an older brother to me

well there you go, stay up late enough so you aren’t dealing with people from North America, and suddenly it’s a no-asshole zone.

Koreans are StarCraft gods everywhere!

Craig G—I don’t think 5 hours is too much, there was a lot of game leading up to the Forest Temple, plus it is kind of long for a first dungeon. ALL the dungeons in Twilight Princess are sort of long, however, I wouldn’t call any of them tedious.

The only tedious moment I’ve witnessed in the game so far has been SPOILERS AHOY the giant statues puzzle right before the master sword SPOILERS NO LONGER AHOY.

Kingfish, you’re after Phoenix Wright! Sure, it’s more like a book with questions at the end of each chapter than a game, but it sure is brilliant.

Yeah, but I heard Pheonix Wright is pretty damn short, w/ no replay value.

Also, i’m boggling at the fact that I’m older than nabisco.

also, gimme a recommendations list for DS/GBA games, preferably ones that i can acquire cheaply from the used shops.

can handheld systems sustain playing a long-form RPG(e.g. FFIII?)

apparently you can now get your Mii head printed on a t-shirt at mrcloud.com.

Zelda is massive! I’ve put in about 20 hours, and just gotten to the end of the—SPOILER?

Desert temple. They’ve all got one though right? It has one of the most fun items Ive yet seen in a Zelda game though (probably forgetting some), hoping it comes in for use again at some point and I’ll be shocked if Nintendo haven’t crafted a mini game or two with it in mind...

HERE ENDETH THE SPOILER

I spent fuckin hours today just pootling about Hyrule though, trying out all the fishing (possibly the only thing to make me sad I don’t have the Wii version) and everything. The point at which you can really explore—usually when you’ve collected the initial three items say—and the game really opens out is always my favourite. I think I’m starting to see a proper town starting to develop—along the lines of Wind Waker more than Clock Town from Majoras Mask most likely, but I’m hoping for anything in that regard, cos thats often one the greatest things about Zelda. I love the working, changing towns... Like having a mini animal crossing in the middle of a huge adventure game or something.

But yeah, it’s fucking huge. Like they’ve just crammed in every last bit of every Zelda game in to one huge best of. And if, like the rumours say, this is the last Zelda in this traditional style then it makes sense to go out epic style.

Unless the fishing gets more intertesting after hour 15 (where I’m at), you’re not missing much there by not having the Wii remote. Using the remote with the bow is really really great though. And, of course, the sword.

one of the most fun items Ive yet seen in a Zelda game

Yeah I really really wanted to talk about this but don’t want to ruin the surprise for others, opening that chest was one of the ultimate WTF moments in gaming history for me.

Have you done the fishing up at Lake Hylia yet, larry? I’m just wondering, cos it seemed like that would be great fun!

This game has really made me laugh on numerous occasions, and I’m really glad that’s all still there (and especially that it’s text based—contrary to what many reviews have said—cos the humour relies on being read for one [Malo’s little mumblings when you’re showing the kids how to use yr sword say], and having everything spoken breaks the game and how it all works...), supposed “darker serious tone” or not (and that item just sort of had me chuckling to myself with joy). S’funny though, I’ve seen a few people mention online that... nobody is talking about Zelda online! I mean, I’m sure they are in some places but it’s almost as a)too busy playing and b)nobosy really wants to give anything away.

opening that chest was one of the ultimate WTF moments in gaming history for me.

guess i should stop reading this thread for a few hours

Enh, I’m not worried about Zelda spoilers, since I know it won’t be until summer at the earliest that I actually get a Wii.

news report from Marketplace about Wii-related damage due to poor strappage.

i on the other hand really want to know what this item is

Ha! After defeating an enemy with a particularly satisfying move, I put Link’s sword away and he did it in his fancy triumphant way with a spin! Poser.

I just got to another dungeon, saw it was eight floors in all, saw the time and thought... yeah, fuck that.

nabisco, I can’t wait until you some day get an Xbox 360. there’s nothing quite like joining an online game to hear adults screaming at children about fucking their mothers.

of course that’s not too different from the offline version of UNO I grew up playing with the family

My bf now decides he DOES want a Wii after all grumble and of course theres none to be had in Melb til after xmas is there? rarr! Ah well. No big rush I guess.

Locale Gamestop I was in tonight in the portland suburbs had several on hand. weeeeeeee.

i love wii! played tennis and bowling last nite until i SWEATED. we even made a wii doll for ophelia.

i have no idea what game this is for:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-PdMRLzcGDg

Reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus, only set in neo-/megatokyo and you have to take down a big stompy robot.

Hey Trayce, do you still play the Sims 2?

Have you got/tried Pets yet?

Oh that tactics thing looks fun! I WILL CHALLENGE YOU NABISCO

i have no idea what game this is for:

earth defense force 3 for the 360. it looks good!

I am so buying an account for this tactics thing :(

I officially swore off it after getting trounced by two white supremacists in one night. I don’t know if they were having an online convention or what.

http://asame5.web.infoseek.co.jp/wintendf.html

some insane wii/nintendo fan art

I officially swore off it after getting trounced by two white supremacists in one night.

Bummer, I just signed up for this last night after reading you talking about it. Gravel, what server are you on? I just picked Great Lakes or whatever at random.

kit: yep, I’ve been playing Pets! It isn’t too bad, but is rather buggy and a patch hasnt come out yet. The only bizarre part is the animals go everywhere—including inside of restaurants and nightclubs wtf.

Next expansion: Seasons! Finally, we get weather in the game!

Sims expansions are always buggy on release, but with EA behind it, I guess we’re lucky to be supported at all. I’m getting Pets for Xmas. Do you have any stuff on the exchange? We could have a festive sim-swap.

Yeah, I’m on great lakes—gchat or mail me if you want to play!

Yeah, but I heard Pheonix Wright is pretty damn short, w/ no replay value.

I heard this too, but it still seems pretty mammoth to me! I played it every day on my hour journey to work and it took me a couple of months. I have replayed it since, but yeah, you won’t get anything new out of it the second time except for a couple of different bits of dialogue based on answering questions differently. If you see it cheap though, definitely get it—it’s my favourite DS game by miles.

I tried to get a new BS Lite today, but EVERYWHERE is sold out. Fucking christmas.

fucking christmas indeed, i’ve not had a moments chance to play much of my games. good thing i didn’t go buying mad and get a wii and 360, they’d either be gathering dust or i’dve got nothing done for xmas.

anyway managed to play a bit more of vice city stories last night, it seems to have stopped skipping now—radio still jumps from time to time. I’m loving it again. I did the CIA vehicle collection thingy, but where are the rewards ??

After a few attempts I finally finished the double dragon bonus mission in The Warriors. For nothing. Bastards! Takes forever as well.

Sad I’ve finished it though, felt a lot like GTA:SA for characters etc.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/751/751182p1.html

IGN brings the syntactic mischief

radio still jumps from time to time.

so does mine—i think that’s just how it is!

I played a 360 at the weekend and I wants one :(

I just got told off for wanting an Xbox :(

I’m gonna try again for a BS Lite at lunchtime. Wish me luck!

wii

THANKS FOR TEH TIP! But I already have a Wii.

Anyway, I managed to get a BS Lite on the way home. Hoorah!

I was at this one place Saturday that had no Wiis, GBAs, DSs, even GCs, but had one GameBoy Micro. It was cuet!

Also I am finding Wii remotes harder to track down than actual Wiis.

even at all the suburban EB/Gamestop/Gamecrazy places?

for the first 10–15 years of my life, i would have killed for this game.

Now, I can only wish it upon the next generation.

even at all the suburban EB/Gamestop/Gamecrazy places?

YES! It is CRAZY.

OH OH ALSO: I played the Wii Sonic game the other day at EB, it is fucking BODACIOUS.

Wow, it must be pretty fucking good to warrant use of such a word, dude.

Does the DS have any fun little shmups?

i want that sonic game

Who has Clubhouse Games? I wanna play it with peoples.

I wanna get it. Is it worth it?

It’s a good travelling game. Even better if you’re travelling with another DSer.

Also, I found it really useful a number of times to check the rules of a bunch of card games when I went on holiday last year.

wii weather channel now working in uk. can’t see myself using it very often, but its beautifully put together—kind of like google earths baby brother. japan seems to have red suns even though its not that hot!??!

WE NEARLY BROKE THE TELLY! The fucking strap broke when it slid out of his hands! Knocked against the corner of the telly and we were all “WTFshit!WADDAwedonow?” Didn’t stop me from playing again yesterday. My Wii physical age is 47. ROFFLICIOUS!

also : weather reports from mount everest & the south pole!!

my wii physical age is 42. i think their being generous :/

If only it had been 60 then I could RETIRE and play forever.

I can’t get over how much the DS Lite screen pwns the DS Phat screen. The colours on Phat look SO washed out.

:-( fwok. maybe i need that as well.

Wish me luck peeps—tomorrow I am braving an JB HiFi that sez it is getting new Wii stock. I am going in the morning, but if I see a queue or fites or BB guns or something I’m not bothering. The lad can bloody wait!

The colours on Phat look SO washed out.

Too true. Which is a shame cos handling wise I much prefer DS PHAT. The lite is like a crappy iPod thingy.

I recommend DS Home Surgery, Trayce.

Wot? That sounds scary.

got my 360 yesterday, played 1 hour of Viva Pinata and turned it off. Boring. Im not into any games besides sports games much anyways. although i hear good things about elder scrolls and a few other games....i’ll probably rent.
