It works thusly:

You cue up your entire music library, or all of it that you are able to put on shuffle. Then you put it on shuffle, and drag every song that comes up onto a new playlist. When the playlist becomes too big to fit onto one 80-min CD, you stop. Now, knowing how much space you have to work with, you make the best mix you can out of this randomness. Your music, totally on random. Make a mix of what comes up, in any order. Go.

Yeah. I hope that on the new server, it will be.

and NO DON’T LIST. IT’S A MIX based on your list.

Shuffle songs. Make a playlist. Arrange later.

When you’re all done, kill me.

Do you people not work??

no.

Wait, we do work, in that people do pay us do certain things. Do we function normally? No.

I knew that.

haha!

1. Don’t we have an ILM on sandbox?

So what do we put on here?

Do you people not work??

“and NO DON’T LIST. IT’S A MIX based on your list.”

Neither do I.

I took that to mean you want it sequenced, not just whatever comes up in the order shuffle brings it up.

You have insight into my fuddled brain, sir. Yeah, it’s supposed to be an opportunity to sequence songs that you wouldn’t ordinarily even have on the same mix.

Jailbait into Good Luck In Jail works in more than one way.

“ it’s supposed to be an opportunity to sequence songs that you wouldn’t ordinarily even have on the same mix.”

That’s what I did—I know it looks like a list but I did put them into some kind of order.

You see—it starts with a disco-ey one and ends on a quiet one—what more could you want!

grrrrrr

haha

LIVE WITH YOUR MISTAKES

MY PUNISHMENT?

7 minutes of ‘XYU’ by the Smashing Pumpkins.

this is turning into a dead loss...

THE PAIN

mine feels really emo-ish except for that nice section around the katrina single.

I kinda want you to ysi me yours.

Did I say ysi? My bad. I meant burn on a cd and mail to me, in a totally legal fashion.

I don’t have iTunes at work, so I can’t move things around and test them out just yet, but I just did the shuffle on my iPod, and I quite like the crop of songs I ended up with.

OH MY GOD this is bad, but fortunately it has just under half an hour to redeem itself!

ok this one i like better.

way more upbeat, girlpop with electronic edges and other pop that sort of fits around it. Progressively less artificial and more 60s and folky as it progresses. The two Le Tigre trax almost feel like mission statements for the mix. Only irritating bits are The Lovetones track which is really not that good and i just tried to hide away where it did the least harm and the Final track which is from “Ambient 4: Isolationism” and is like a 7 minute drone. Just stuck it at the end coz i have no idea what to do with it. I guess I could have hidden the Lovetones track after it?

this would be better if we could easily podcast these or something

15 min. Black Leotard song and Alexander Cockburn lecture make this almost untenable but it could have been worse. This is actually pretty damn listenable.

No inspired segues that popped out at me, though I like the Radio Viejo—Motels segment and the opener was too pleasantly off-putting to pass up. Not sure the lyrics are kosher though.

I LOVE that black leotard front song.
