WAHT IS MADE

dud.

It’s enough to justify never showering again.

Get one blowdryer, dry hair in bra, put on jumper.

“hair in bra”

get bra, wear bra, fly

ok I must have been posting drunk last night, where did I get “Blaze the Violent Flame” from?

turtlenecks are duds, in general.

ah! that’s where i’ve been going wrong. i’ve not been putting on my bra.

no bra, wet dog, good night in

Is this a sequel to the hairy nipple thread from last year?

Oh man.

you people get worked up over some really odd things.

putting on a turtleneck

yeah turtlenecks suck is your problem here.

“worked up”

“odd things”

“inverted commas”

and then there’s the mock turtleneck

“camouflage pants”

what is bottom dude holding in his hand? dildo?

mock dildo

“mock dildo”

I don’t understand the problem with turtlenecks you people have, it looks very dashing on Steve McQueen.

“Steve McQueen”

“beating a dead horse”

seriously if you have a problem with this look, you should be banned from wearing any clothing at all:

lots of things look dashing on steve mcqueen

A face, hair, textile-based body coverings...the list is practically endless.

ok that’s actually a good point. :\

turtlenecks are classic for a brief moment once every 20 years or so (see late 60s), are we back in the “Yes, Turtlenecks!” period?

i winned!

i still like — and wear — turtlenecks.

what’s the difference between a turtleneck and a poloneck?

(nb: this isn’t the beginning of a bad joke. i genuinely want to know.)

one sounds like a polish last name?!?

shit, i may have a relative with a last name like “poloneck” :-0

^^^ this is a polo shirt, do you mean this??

There’s no such thing as a “poloneck” in American. We have polo shirts, they look like those things fancy people wear to play polo in, ie knit cotton shirts with ribbed collars, usually short sleeved.

poloneck don’t fold over but is longer than mock

according to google image search, below is an example of a polo neck sweater:

Oh I did a GIS on poloneck now and see what you mean, jhoshea is correct, the difference is pretty minimal between all three though.

Dudes with turtlenecks just remind me o’ the old TMBG:

Irish sailor turtlenecks:

aka cable-knit

i love this thread

I still don’t really understand Tracer’s original objection. Because it makes the neck clammy & wet? He’s a boy with shortish hair to begin with, what’s wrong with towel-drying it so it’s not dripping from the get-go?

Maybe he has a hairline that extends very low on his neck.

maybe by “turtleneck” he means...?

i c/ped that violet flame from some wacko site linked to elsewhere on ilx. i knew someone would pick it up.

Cheers! I had no recollection of changing my screen name last night.

Ack, teeny, if any of your hair is long enough to be interfering with THAT turtleneck, that is a problem I never want to hear about much less envision.

here is the thread, onimo: Please to explain this website for me:

pacific state (0101 mix)

Every morrning I pull my shirt over my towel-wrapped wet hair. Otherwise everything gets wet. It’s like re-birthing. I always cuss.

Beth, me too, at night when I put on PJs. Vneck Tshirts preferred for this purpose.

here is the thread, onimo: Please to explain this website for me:

I must have been blitzed! I can’t remember posting that. I rings a bell now that I look at it again, so that’s something.

Those (ie. the Steve McQueen one) are not turtlenecks, as far as I’m concerned. They are rollnecks (sometimes, confusingly, called polonecks by some people in the UK. Not to be confused with polo shirts, such as the yellow one Ally posted). Turtlenecks are like this. It seems Americans call them mock turtles, which makes more sense. I don’t fucking know. Why people can’t agree on a simple thing like neck names I have no idea. The world is doomed.

I agree, turtlenecks don’t roll.

you guys need to go back to sweater school

Me, eating some crisps in a rollneck jumper.

Investigating a hamster in the same.

It looks a bit more like killing a hamster doesn’t it.

Me, eating some crisps in a rollneck jumper.

Dude, those are potato chips.

No possible way, many generations of LL Bean and Lands’ End catalogs have firmly planted the turtle neck (see below) in the American mind.

wow—when did no-nonsense l.l. bean start giving colors names like green tea?

(And in case you can’t tell from picture, turtlenecks have roll-over necks, quite definitely. Ones that don’t roll are mock turtlenecks over here.)

I will float the idea of “roll neck”, Das, but only when there’s no edge on the knitting, which makes the thing want to roll over on its own (as anyone in the ILX knitwit thread will attest.)
