to put my cat down on Wed.
arrrgh.
I’m full of doubt and trying not to think about it. Actually I hope wed. is not too late. He didn’t eat anything yesterday. :(
:(
It sucks to schedule the death of your pet.
Your poor cat. Poor you.
:(
So sad, my thoughts are with you.
(I hate clichés, but) it really is for the best.
I know, I’m trying to remind myself of that. and also that pets don’t have the hangups about death that we do.
But now I’m second guessing myself b/c G. says he got Q-Tip to eat some tuna before he left for work. In the past week when he has ate, it’s only been a couple of tablespoons worth and then the plate’s always full of blood afterward so I’m not sure if this should change anything.
I guess I’ll just see how he does over the couple of days.
I’m so sorry Sam. It just sucks. One of my best friend’s cats died on Friday of fatty liver disease—he had been wasting away for months and the vet just wasn’t able to save him. So she’s worried that she could have done more to save the cat...
Hope Q-Tip does start to feel better—and if nothing else, I wish him (and you!) peace.
Oh man, I wish I could hug you. :-( Our doggie Lucy has been shitting and peeing in the house lately. NO FUN, especially when you have a baby. She might be turning senile. The vet’s wife said:“If she is, then you have to put her to sleep.”
So sorry to hear that it’s come to this, but I’m glad you did get some time with him between the diagnosis and now. Let me know if you need anything!
So, the vet gets his wife to do his dirty work, eh? (x-post)
Really sorry to hear about your cat, Sam.
aw, this is horrible. i’m sorry to hear about this, sam.
I’m so sorry :(
It’s the hardest thing in the world to make a decision such as this, but it’s only because you love him so much that you want to prevent him suffering.
Big hugs.
Oh, Sam, I am so very, very, very sorry to read this.
I know it doesn’t matter that you know you’re doing the right thing—the pain and fear and anger don’t lessen any.
This is going to sound terribly cheesy, but I read it somewhere and it’s always resonated with me when I have to make decisions about euthenasia: The greatest gift we can give our animal companions is when we take their pain and make it our own.
Q-Tip is fortunate to have found you as a companion and a caretaker—thank you for being there for him when he needs you most.
So many hugs and tears (I’ve had to have three little ones put to sleep in the last five days, myself), Sam—Laura and Crew
C J OTM. And if Wednesday’s really the time, you’ll know.
ah, Laura, I’m sorry for you too. I don’t know if this gets any easier the more you do it but I’m sure this won’t be the last time for me. I’m already planning to get a new cat. I’ve loved QTip too much not to have another kitty to love.
I’m ready to get it over with now. He’s super skinny and although he still tries to eat and purrs with us he’s obviously not himself and not really enjoying life anymore.
It’s so hard. It’s better to end it before his life is all suffering, though. You poor baby!
I’m so, so sorry, Sam. All my best to you and bon courage.
Big hugs, sugar. xx
been there several times. support and love for you my dearest s.
I’m so sorry. Much love and peace to you and your kitty.
I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow.
I don’t know what your time frame is on getting another kitty, but some friends of mine are looking for a home for a beautiful 6 month old male, ocicat-type markings, and is very cuddly and vocal. We saw him this weekend, and if he weren’t so interested in their birds I’d have been tempted.
WAY TO HARSH MY BUZZ, SAM.
Sam, you and your kitty are in my thoughts. Lots and LOTS of hugs.
Thinking of you and Q-Tip, Sam. Please know that you’re both surrounded by warm, loving energies and that we’re here when you want to talk. Many, many hugs. Laura
My sincerest condolences, Sam. :( Cats are the best, and putting them down is the worst.
:(
Hi Sam, I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you and Q-Tip.
aw. Q-tip. =( very sad.
Thank you for all your thoughts and positive energies.
It’s done. We just got back from the vet a bit ago.
I stayed with him in bed all day: sleeping, cuddling. G. fed him a little bit and he scarfed it down like he was starving but only ate about a tablespoon before he started choking. I tried my best to clean him up, being momma kitty with a warm washcloth and wiping the dried pus and stuff that’s covered his eye/nose. but the pus would come right back and he looked pretty scraggly by the time we went to the vet.
It was over so quick, seconds. and then he was gone. just a lifeless body, not my kitty.
My boyfriend took it a lot harder than I expected and I’m pretty worried about him. depsite trying to stay calm for qtip’s sake we were both bawling like babies by the time we left him there.
I know it was right and I’m glad it’s over but the house and all his little spots seem so empty now.
The dogs, ever helpful, were quick to gobble up every last bit of his leftover food as soon as our backs were turned. bless ’em.
i’m going to go watch basketball and drink lots of beer now.
love you Q-Man
It’s a beautiful tribute. Love for all.
You obviously loved your kitty, Sam.
aww sorry, sam :(
Condolences, Sam.
heartfelt commiserations. i wish i could think of something more useful to say but i can’t. i hope the basketball and beer help a little.
Sam, my heart goes out to you and G.
I’m so sorry Sam. I don’t know what else to say. I’ve been thinking about you on and off today, though.
It sounds to me like you did exactly right by your cat.
thank you sara, and everyone else.
no surprise, I can’t sleep with all the beer in the world.
Now, if you aren’t worn out from good deeds, there’s a white and grey fella we call “Tony” roaming our neighborhood in Swede Hill. He’s good looking and very friendly, but doesn’t seem to have a real home. There’s a highly allergic person in the house, so we can’t help him...
:) you and K both!
I definitely want a new kitty but I think I’m going to wait until after christmas.
Lots and LOTS of huggelz.
Sorry to hear this, my condolences.
Are those pictures of QTip on your blog? He’s a handsome fella.
It sounds like he was lucky to have you as his owner (if one can ever in fact own a cat ... I always think it’s the other way around). You gave him a happy life, and you gave him dignity in death.
I’ve shed a tear for both of you today :(
Oh, Sam, I’ve been through this and I know how it hurts. My most heartfelt condolences to you and your feller.
RIP, Q-cat.
My dad always said to watch out when folks are suddenly feeling a bit better during a bout with cancer, and to take advantage of that time—it’s a gift. It’s usually not long before they pass away.
I’m sorry that you were in the position to have to make that decision for Q-Tip, but he’s not suffering anymore. I admire your interest in having another kitty, lots of folks would just shut down and not want to feel again.
When you’re up to it we should grab a coffee or something.
Aw, a coworker told me this morning she had to put her cat to sleep last night, too :( What a sad day for kitties yesterday was!
Hope today is a little easier!
stay strong sister, we’re all in yr corner
Sounds like the gentlest death possible—you’re good cat-mom!
Sam, so sorry to hear about Q-tip. He was so loved, and had a great mama.
thank you all. I just uploaded his last pictures:

*sigh* How can I turn my 50 pound dog into a cuddly cat?
You did the right thing. Condolences. Let time be your doctor.
