I really like the way they’re gradually having Mike drive away everybody from the Stamford branch. Not all at once, just one at a time.
i roffled harder at this week’s episode than any previous ones.
i was expecting better since it was written by gervais and merchant; the prison mike thing went on too long and the michael-under-the-desk baby thing was confusing, but some of it was classic, mainly andy.

I thought Creed cooing over the baby was quite cute, even though he was inadvertantly trying to kill it.
And of course Andy keeps his banjo in his car at all times. One day he and Dwight will make peace and perform a lovely banjo/recorder duet.

That was Oscar, who got molested by Michael early in the season and convinced not to sue by corporate with a long paid vacation.
Ahhhh. I recognized that guy from Reno 911, but wasn’t sure if that was a COMING SOON type of teaser or what.
BTW, if Ed Helms & Steve Carell decide to record a duets album covering John Mayer, I might consider buying it.

Yeah, he totally does. They don’t look ANYTHING like the waitresses in the earlier scene. Plus, aren’t they high school age?
The actor who plays Creed was a member of an 80’s rock band, I believe; I wonder if the song he sang was one of his? Anybody wanna go to bat for me on this one?

That ep was really good. Michael showed himself as the um, loveable idiot that he is? “There are four kinds of business : tourism, food service, railroads and sales ... and hospitals/manufacturing ... and air traffic”. “America is up against five Goliaths”. Plus the candy bars with everything written upon them. And “profit , just another fancy word for money” etc. A lot of really great lines.
I love Pam.

I love Pam too! The final scene at the art show with Michael buying Pam’s art was really sweet.
Also, I loved how Angela was wearing a babushka and praying that the bat didn’t get her.
I loved that they played into the old wives’ tale that bats get stuck in your hair. If my mother had seen that (her mother said that to her all the time), she would have had a screaming fit.

the whole series of art show scenes were amazing.
As a Pam-lover, I thought the art show scenes were a little more brutal than absolutely neccesary, making it clear that she was deluding herself about the depth of her talent and commitment. Maybe I’m being too harsh now, though. I thought the stapler drawing was kind of interesting. (It’s always a tough thing to show the imaginary art of a fictional character.)
Maybe that’s neccesary to distinguish it from Dawn’s storyline, though.
I thought I had gotten used to the US straying far away from the UK version, but seeing that Pam wasn’t that great of an artist last night was still surprising.
But I think the point is more what Oscar and his friend were saying, you need honesty and courage to be a great artist, and Pam has neither. She’s cute and clever and game and loving etc, but this was a brutally frank OTM comment.

Jeff Koons is neither cute nor clever. It did take a lot of balls for him to become an artist though! Like, fifty or sixty balls.

jim was in my dream last night, very briefly, as a party guest.
pam is just so unremarkable. she is not someone who has taken any sort of risk or chance, she is not especially gracious or kind. i’m not anti-pam, but i do think that the show treats her with some serious kid gloves, holding her up as some sort of madonna receptionist. i like the show making me uncomfortable!
Dawn was a better artist then Pam.

Karen was a really bad actress during all of the vampire sequences — I don’t think she is quite as good at prankin as Pam is.
I think Pam is really timid and so is her art, but I love her.
I agree that the best part was Angela stopping dropping and rolling for the vampire bat. AND CREED.

i didn’t think this episode was that great... funny stuff for sure but no jim/pam beat in re the art stuff at ALL?? kinda weird no?
i thought about that too, they totally fudged/ignored Jim’s no-show so Michael/Dunder to have his hero moment which was cool unless you think about it as much as, um, you and I do.
The Sales Call ep is still my fave for this season, i think, 2nded by Oscar’s Coming Out.
i roffled at the bat scenes because when i was in undergrad in binghamton (just a few miles north of scranton across the penn/new york border), i had a bat in my apartment one year and my roommate and i were similarly freaked out. (we picked an exterminator out of the phone book and the guy who showed up was a vietnam vet who’d spent so much time in the shit that he wasn’t afraid of anything, especially not some dumb little bat, so he caught it with his hands, put it in a box, and set it free outside. cost = $50.)
i guess there are a lot of bats in that part of the country!
i remember i first noticed the bat in my kitchen when it swooped down and grazed the falafel mix i was making. no falafel for me that night!

I don’t think Jim was allowed to go. In one of the deleted scenes, Karen tries to discreetly tear down the flyer Pam put up in the breakroom. There’s still some bad feelings there.
