Me! Me and the mister are going to ATP with Mr & Mrs Aldo Cowpat. This ATP is a bit difficult to organise places to meet up as no-one’s been to this place before. However, I am sure we will arrange something, somehow. Just don’t leave it to me to do it.

Onsite facilities include a cinema, Splash Water World—a sub-tropical environment that has a huge wave pool, a swimming pool, 3 flumes and also a flume based raft ride—Ten-pin bowling and amusement arcade. Sports include Archery, Football, Basketball, Darts, Petanque, Fencing, Kwik Cricket, Netball, Rounders, Table Tennis, Outdoor Bowls and Crazy Golf.

Also four pubs outwith the bits where the bands are on. Oh yeah, and some bands.

Other ILX people I know who are going are Andrew Farrell, g-kit and Lixi. I’m sure there are others too, but I can’t remember without the benefit of the other thread.

Stence—realistically speaking, any FAPs that take place outside of Zone 1 tend to be pretty, erm, select affairs. There’s a lot to be said for keeping things central.

Yeah Waterloo makes sense—easy for Stence to get in from Wandsworth and central enough for everyone else. I’m not familiar with the White Hart (although for a second I got it confused with the Wellington, which is horrible).

Kentish Town is in the borough of Camden which is north of Proper Central London—it’s on one branch of the Northern Line, just up from Camden Town. If you were going to there from the Beggars’ offices you’d probably be required to change at Waterloo anyway.

I suppose I should post a cordial hello to this thread. I am the mysterious fourth element in the Poo chalet. I am also quite excited about this whole business. What with having not had a real holiday this year, having never been to ATP before, and seeing most of my favourite bands in one weekend, my expectations are through the roof!

There are some very minor time changes on the ATP main site, but they are quite helpful to me. Major Stars moving to Sunday means I will not have to leave the main stage at all on Friday! The Friday line-up is insane. And I’ll have been awake since 6am. Being at work seems like such an irrelevance this week.

We can only hope for a last-minute announcement that Captain Beyond have been added to Friday’s line up.

24. MONORALE

The other Butlin’s monorail opened at the Minehead camp on 13th May 1967. Running on a shorter half-mile run, the track formed a figure-of-eight loop taking in the Princess and Regency buildings. Construction took 4 months and the track varied from 16ft to 30ft above ground level. The tracks crossed each other on an impressive structure located above the outdoor swimming pool. A pair of 40-seat trains provided the service and only one station was built, this being situated to the rear of the Princess building. The Minehead monorail closed following an accident during the summer of 1996. One train ran into the back of another and 7 people received minor treatment. Butlins were fined a total of £22,500. The cost to upgrade the system was thought too high, so the monorail was closed for good. The structure remained in place for another two years before being torn down during the winter of 1998. The area where the trains crossed is now home to the Skyline Pavillion.

I actually went to that Minehead Butlins in 1990! It was horrible.

Well, that was fun. Despite the DDBs monopolising Stence for THE ENTIRE NIGHT but that’s OK because they’re some of my favourite DDBs and I got to exchange horrible soundman and horrible “oh noes we work for bankers!” stories with one of my fave bands in London. Yay. Being an Early Doors person, I had the best harem evah for a while.

Did Stence ever come out and party after I left?

I know TISSP made his train but will he ever get his wallet back? (Will he ever get his dignity back after I turned him over my knee and spanked him?)

Yes, Stence did come out and we tried to set the problems o the world right although we still could not find three generations of pop-stars from the same family that complied with the rules.

Did the DDBs stick around?

(I heart them, I really do. As Stence said “Yeah, actually, they are the most *Kate* band in the world ever...” I hope he takes them to NYC and makes them big stars.)

The Dead C were great, but not as good as the MC5 battling on with no PA. Colonel Poo got hit over the head with a chair during Negative Approach, he seemed to think this was one of the highlights of his weekend...

i was sorry not to fap w/ hstencil and everyone, ailsa v. kindly texted me, but a) I got caught up in the plans and schemes of my london friends, who i hadn’t seen for a few months and had been missing terribly, and b) after three months enforced abstinence, access to v. gd h3mp meant i was at last truly on the right vibrational plane to appreciate mouthus et al

i don’t expect a fest in the uk to ever have such gd music again so i can’t see myself going back to an ATP—shame, cos the chalets were actually WARM in this place

Guinness and Lime is strangely drinkable.

I discovered that I can, in fact, be late for pretty much anything.

The arcades at Butlins need more focus.

We won Vicky Pollard and Daffyd keyrings from the 10p falls machine. I really wish I’d played the percussion machine. I was a bit miffed that the big raft ride was off. Bowling to Jesus Built My Hotrod = teh awesome. Being designated as the barometer of crapness at bowling = not quite so much.

I am the worst air-hockey player in the world, as Andrew F will testify.

Damn, we spent ages staring at that percussion game, too, only to be intimidated into leaving it well alone.

Maybe they should’ve had a little Pontins bear standing there going “Sorry Kits, Your Balls Need to be THIS BIG to play this game.”

I missed the goth bowling FAP but we had our own on Sunday afternoon, they played Bela Lugosi’s Dead again for us.

Yeah, dude—that’s pretty much the vibe I was feeling by Sunday night! Thanks to all here for their warmth and collaboration in what was a fairly unbelievable weekend! It seemed pretty clear by the second day that this was something the like of which might not be seen again, musically at least. That was maybe the only problem I had with it—that there was so much going on that there was very little time for general hanging out and taking stock. Just relentless. I had a blast. Hope you all did too.

OTM! I’m not exactly sure why it seemed so manic this time. The whole weekend seemed to go by in a flash, though I remember at most previous years’ ATPs, we spent a lot of time hanging out etc.

Yeah, hanging out time was at a premium. Partly, I think, because of proximity of town —> time off camp.
