I’ve only tried Divider 2 (line) so far, and I like it. I sort of see the case for not having a divider between posts made by the same user, but I like my old ilx format and miss having that option too. Think this one will just be a “get used to it and then forget it was ever different” kind of issue, though.

Keith did change some things that popped up when I saw them and he did tell me that a lot depends on what mode you are using.

I don’t know anything about coding so hopefully Keith can explain anything here to anyone who asks.

Yes. Kinda takes up a lot of space in the left column, imo. Esp when, like above, someone (me) posts a few times in a row.

I’ve just started using Art Deco and I think I might keep it. I feel classy.

I’m using Line (2) after trying a few of the more whimsical options but—is there any chance for an option that divides the posts using a subtle pale background box instead? Sort of like how zing separates posts? I find that visually ... helpful somehow.

Edit (hey, this is handy): I did like the art deco flourish but best to keep things simple.

tried a few, line was cleanest so i went with that. the best separator is, as on 2.0, the user’s signature and date info.

separate topic, maybe discussed in another thread, but: this is my first attempt to use a poll and it was REALLY strange to have to wait for blobs of results to appear before i could even see what the options were. i would vote against results being shown before polls are over—what’s the point? just seems like it would distort voting, and lower the “opening a present” aspect of finally getting to see the results, at which point there’s a fun shift in the discussion. but if results have to be available, you certainly shouldn’t have to wait for them to animate their way onto the screen.

they shouldn’t though!! this is another case of “changing the way threads work” that probably deserves its own thread all by itself just to gauge what people think. personally i’m less interested in starting polls that work that way, but also less interested in participating in them. like, you see the results before you vote, it’s already clear what’s going to win, ehhhhhh.... what’s the point....? or, on the other end, does it encourage addictive refreshing to see what the results are right this second, like election-night results? don’t love that either.

but! being able to see who you voted for in a poll is a GREAT little feature. god knows how many times i’ve wondered, immediately or years later, what the hell i voted for, or if i voted at all.

You can still change in settings how to view poll results, but unfortunately for you, only the pollrunner can decide if they want to show results at the end of voting.

Also, what if the poll runner does want to change the way their thread works. Isn’t that up to them?

it should be up to ilx as a whole what options are available to the poll runner, because it shapes what the site will feel like and how discussions and threads will play out. it’s a constitutional question. imo!

I agree with William. I remember the outcry about polls when first introduced and most got used to them and enjoy them. Those who don’t ignored them.

I actually don’t do anywhere near the amount of polls now as I used to, but I do feel a poll should be up to whoever runs it. I understand your POV though.
