I’m thinking about a printer/scanner, as well as picking up the cds I had the shop special order, as everything’s 10% off today.
My lunch, for a start.
Is today Buy Nothing Day? Oh, honestly, why did they have it on Payday? I’ve already bought boots and a handbag. But I didn’t buy anything all week!
I guess it’s the 24th in North America, and the 25th in the UK.
It’s not a very sexy concept.
Not this Saturday! There’s a continental market in Oxford this Saturday, I was gonna` buy loads of chorizo and random French cheese! Boo!
If I abstained from shopping on Saturdays, I would starve the next week.
i’m not gonna buy adbusters, that’s for sure
your mum
i havne’t bought anything in like 2 months
i will buy beer. and maybe some fabric to make a skirt. (not in that order)
I sandwich, a packet of tea and a bus ticket so far.
I, sandwich
iSandwich
I am also tempted by this, which is worth £2,065!
spam!
Blah blah blah. iBlah.
Good idea #1 (though this might not work)
Can we make a syndicate for it and have a couple of nights each if we get it?
anyway, yes, Buy Nothing day. I just got paid, so that’s kind of knacked. So far today:
£20 petrol
£15 top-up for mobile phone
£1.99 chicken pasta thing for lunch
£11.95 box of wine (on special offer: South African red, very nice thus far)
also, I’m going out for dinner.
I plan to buy some toothbrushes.
I spent 90p on a parking ticket, and that was all.
I nearly signed a new phone contract, but wouldn’t have had to pay anything for it
hippies.
Why would you want to pay good money for hippies?
You can buy them in bulk, by the minibus.
i bought this cd. i don’t know what it is, really. and i bought 9 other cd’s. had i known it was buy nothing day, i would have still bought them. I’ve had about two weeks of buy nothing days anyways, so eat me, adbusters, i wanted the man on the pony.

He lives in one of those states where they won’t let you touch the pump. How would he know what to call it?

At first read I thought how unfortunate; you’re going to be living in a car, but now I geddit.
we didn’t see a movie, but the spouse went shopping for groceries. so, add more food to the list.
srsly, i put up posters for BND in my high school in 2000 but i don’t think it’s an effective campaign anymore.
I may well manage to buy/spend nothing on Buy Nothing Day. The weather’s rotten and it seems like a good day to tackle the nursery. We forgot to leave a cheque for the milkman this morning and I paid my credit card online at five to midnight last night. Oystercard top-up can wait until tomorrow.
I bought an anvil case for my guitar.
Last night = £30 on dinner and a couple of bottles of wine in the pub. £6 on a taxi home (that’s over and above the £38.94 mentioned up there). Christ, that’s a total of £74.94 which isn’t exactly Buy Nothing, is it?
Though if it’s Saturday rather than Friday, then I’m OK because I have not left the house all day and haven’t spent any money. OK, we spent £15 on a Chinese takeaway, but the money for that came out of Neil’s pocket, so I’m not counting it as *my* spending.
I bought nothing on Buy Nothing Day. Pam went to Sainsbury’s and that came out of the joint account but I wasn’t there, so it doesn’t count.
That’s like my logic too. Good, isn’t it?
so this was on friday? i actually DID buy nothing! yesterday, though, I spent $97 at the tower records going-out-of-business sale.
Hang on! That’s a Slim Gailard CD or LP up there!
The jazz dude! Conning c&w fans!
Cool!
Well, I did end up buying stuff of Friday. Not anything mentioned above, but:
-$20.00 worth of gasoline (87 octane), at $2.399/gallon
-Latté ($3.65 + $1.00 tip)
-Presonus Firebox ($265.00 plus 7.75% sales tax)
-Dinner at In-n-out (~$6.50)
-Cigarettes ($4.75)
-$8.00 for parking
-Two (2) tickets for Richie Hawtin/Jeff Mills @ Avalon Hollywood, at $10.00 each
-$28.00 worth of drinks at Avalon (incl. tip)
I spent a lot of money, thus cancelling out some of you buy-nothingers.
for black friday i bought no new stuff, did not go to no malls, so i think i did a’ight.
i bought a used LP at a record shop i love here in portland, exiled — st john green, weirdo spoken word psych. sort of doors meets the red krayola maybe? am sure people on here know it. nice clean dj copy, $25, seems fair to me.
ohh also i bought coffee (a necessity), fruit and some fancy cheese (ros to be exact — i thinkit’s spanish and it’s a super delicious goat cheese, or maybe sheep).
I want that. (I am hungry.)
BTW, Mike, v. likely I’ll be up in Portland before going to EMP this year. But drop me a line about that.
Ned! You just have to walk like two blocks for food though right? Ohh man, we just ate Ethiopian, yummmm. This one place has a dish they make with “chickpea crackers” never had it anywhere else, it’s great.
Will be awesome to see you for EMP-time and we’re driving up if you need a lift — also if you need a place let us know. I’ll be actually replying to your last email this week, sorry to be so slow with that business.
Ros cheese is from sheep, I was wrong. But holy fuck! It’s divine.
i bought a used LP at a record shop i love here in portland, exiled — st john green, weirdo spoken word psych.
i was pleased to see this on cd at a shop in san diego this past weekend. i’ve already got a copy, but i took comfort in knowing the store had it.
yeah i think it was just bootlegged, maybe for the second time?
You just have to walk like two blocks for food though right?
I ended up just making some, always a good approach. Mm, starch.
And yes, will talk with you more about that — I was thinking I’d like to crash with my cousin’s family as I normally do but a ride up and back would be a treat. Anyway, more in e-mail, doubtless.
Hang on! That’s a Slim Gailard CD or LP up there!
it IS awesome. Value added fact: thanks to track 6 (“Chicken Rhythm”), I now have two songs in my collection comprised almost entirely out of chicken “bah-CAWks.” I’m finally starting to get somewhere, after so much time and money.
Is the other one by Rolf Harris?
hmm, i didn’t know that friday was buy-nothing day. maybe that was why the gas station attendant in flemington, NJ where i filled it up was such a rude asshole (still dropped $25 for the privilege)!
also bought a book for $15, and two CDs (kraftwerk’s “minimum/maximum” and the new jay-z CD) for $35 total.
kid koala (xpost). what’s the rolf harris song?
minimum/maximum is so excellent.
i bought a memory card and carry case for my psp. does beer count? i bought that too.
I would guess that the other chicken song is Ray Stevens doing “In The Mood” as the Henhouse Four Plus Two.
Also that Slim album is fantastic; “How High The Moon” is today’s official greatest record ever made ever.
shit, I’m on my way to a chicken-squawk mixtape. the other song i was thinking of is on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
I NEVER buy myself anything, but I fell in love with a jacket, which I bought, on Saturday.
Know sometimes you buy a life-changing piece of clothing? This is it....
I bought a bag of wok veggies, two bottles of perfume (for the living room as our dog has shat in it two times in a frigging row), pumpkin soupmix (urgh diet starts today), 8grain bread,... That’s about it for now.
Just beer.
Oh and knitting needles.
I bought some thermal tops at the American Apparel outlet on Friday and Saturday, but that’s it.
I totally didn’t buy anything on buy nothing day! I didn’t do it consciously though, I just already had plenty of beer food etc.
Oh and knitting needles.
hooray!
BEERFOOD.
I kept it to bananas and bread, but my wife went to Wal-Mart and threw them another $100 bill. :-(
