Holy shit. Brain eating microbes.

Use the water specified!

i have an irrational fear of someday someone pressuring me to try using a neti pot or just having an annoying conversation with me about why i should and why won’t i, so the existence of this story provides me some relief as an easy excuse should that situation ever arise

I used them on a few occasions during a bad bout of sinusitis. the sensation alone made me feel gross, I don’t think I did it 100% right, and on one occasion wound up triggering one of the worst sinus headaches I ever had by moving all the gunk to the middle of my sinus cavity.

Neti pot irrigation is one of my favorite activities, especially when I’m congested (always). Definitely must stop using tap water, mein gott.

^

apparently tap water is fine if you boil it first

louisiana just has hella shitty tap water

sign me not worried in jersey

RIP

it’s realy said, he used a neti pot

pretty sure that whatever pushback against neti pots and blowing up of stories like this are coming from pharma lobbyists/PR agencies

Folks, it’s easy. Keep everything clean, use a hard plastic pot (ceramic pots have porous surfaces that can habour bacteria), boil the water, dissolve salt in the water.

Although actually I don’t use mine any more, because a) all this ^ is a heck of a faff, and b) nasal irrigation doesn’t do anything for phlegm in the lungs. So I’m doing breathing exercises now—takes the same amount of time, but no crouched over a washbasin pouring water through my head cavities.

xp I think it’s more to do with the increasing popularity—like with heart attacks as jogging became popular in the early 80’s.

mix of the two most likely?

i’ve been doing this daily for maybe three/four years now and it’s fixed a problem I’ve had basically my entire life.

i do get that it’s not a fix for everyone so i try not to proselytize but damn it makes a difference for me

I’m still lolling that you’re like 1 step away from a Michael Clayton-esque conspiracy theory where big pharma is killing neti pot users as part of their drug development process

xp It worked really well for me too, and I’ll still use it when I’m really congested.

lol right back at you if you don’t think big pharma is perfectly happy to spend a hundred grand on marketing to combat a free and easy to use alternative to allegra, especially when oprah is telling people they should try it

just cause you’re paranoid doesn’t mean etc

don’t think pfizer is doping the LA water supply dude but if you don’t think they’re helping sponsor some of these “we’re not sure but this thing that people have been doing for thousands of years might not be good for you in the long term” papers and helping publicize the outlier cases, then YOU sir are pouring water up your nose

fuck i was trying to lurk and y’all had to go and pull out the fucken NETI GUNZ

you have OPINIONS on neti pots

that is not a bad thing btw, it’s just cracking me up

beats hell out of having opinions about CNN, racist bottle openers and hipsters imho
