was ABP funny? As a kid it looked lugubrious and grey: Arch sitting at a counter, not smiling.

AITF kinda the same way, to me anyway.

I think part of the problem was shifting Archie from the comedic center to being a straight man for other wacky characters. But I hardly ever watched ABP so my memory may be talking smack to me.

this was not a classic period, but few here are old enough for CBS ’72–78 Saturday.

By the time I was old enough to watch TV these were all in reruns. I take back my ABP vote because while I liked it, I don’t think I “got” 1/2 of it because I was too little. I guess that’s true of most of these though. What the heck was I doing watching this adult stuff anyway?

Yeah, Jeffersons was a bit before my time. Sad to say, I’ve seen a lot more episodes of Amen than of Jeffersons.

Sherman Hemsley is a self-proclaimed fan of ’70s progressive rock including bands Gentle Giant and Nektar. On his appearance on The Dinah Shore Show, Hemsley performed a dance to the Gentle Giant song “Proclamation” from The Power and the Glory. After his dance, the host was laughing and asked what kind of music that was. Sherman then proceeded to give a 5-minute speech on Gentle Giant.[3] Sherman can also been seen wearing a Nektar T-shirt during his interview with Norman Lear when Lear hosted Saturday Night Live from Season 2 Episode 26.

I watched all of these when I was a kid, but the Jeffersons is the only one I still find funny.

I feel like Florence from the Jeffersons and Dee from What’s Happening have made me what I am today.

I always looked forward to Paul Benedict’s appearances so that George could slam the door on him.

Another vote for the classic 1973–1974 Saturday night lineup.

But not as much the later variants with Friend and Lovers between AitF and MTM and then The Jeffersons followed by Doc as the leadoff- I liked Barnard Hughes best as Bob Newhart’s dad.

weird to think of any weekend evenings on tv having any sitcoms at all now.
