these are the only kind of socks my parents ever bought for me growing up

at some point I realized these looked bad w/ dark shoes, and I only wear dark shoes, so I probably just didn’t need to buy them anymore

I refuse to wear tube socks. My socks must be form-fitting, with a heel knitted in. Otherwise, yeah, still wear white sweat sox almost every day. I’m old. No one cares.

the thing is that in miami pretty much no one ever wears pants so i wore very little white tube socks anyway — white low cut socks, maybe a diff story

low-cut white socks are on the same continuum

my biggest beef w/ these is how they’re for shoe sizes “6–12”—and in like one month your no-shows become show all the time because they’re so stretched out

I literally have 2 pairs of socks and two drawers full of random unpaired socks. As a result my socks p much never ever match but I don’t care because it’s not like you can ever see them.

I should correct this — my white socks have heels, none are tube socks. But as my daily knockaround shoes are white sneakers, my socks are generally white as well.

yeah it was definitely a kind of embarrassing lightbulb going off when i was 22 and working in an office for the first time, and like, i can just go to target and buy a bag off not-white socks for 9.99

Except for the shorts part, that’s true. Black socks and shorts is NAGL ever but especially on old dudes with white sneakers.

Why on earth wouldn’t you wear black socks with business wear? I feel like they’re likely the most appropriate choice especially if your shoes are dark which they most likely are.

I have only one pair, for running. Still feels odd. I said au revoir to white socks when I was ten. In fact, I think it’s one of the first things I assertively decided on not ever wearing again. White socks are vile.

I wear white crew socks w/athletic shoes and being from a certain generation I find the modern mania for ankle socks or shorter odd; it leaves me feeling kind of exposed.

Also, my corset is killing me today.

Mookie—it’s a super cool look where you take the bottom of your pants and fold it over before cuffing them so you get a tight tapered look. Iirc it’s also called the “California Cuff”.

She did but she wanted to wear all black in her beatnik/existential get-up and supposedly they humored her by letting her do a screen test that way and one w/white socks and even she could see the white socks were more dynamic.

A proper tight-roll should have the extra material folded inward across the lower shin. The use of safety pins was key to a good roll, but to the experienced tight roller they can be achieved without them.

OK, idk but depending on the specific colors you could prob do any other neutral color. Maybe not back (tho would still be better than white) but brown, khaki green, tan, navy etc.

Brown socks are surprisingly difficult to find around here! It’s all white, black and dark blue.

I’m fairly certain that khaki green is not a color of sock available outside of like Bass Pro shops or whatever.

I still wear white athletic socks with sneakers most of the time. With dressier shoes I generally try to match the socks to the pants.

I only wear them when its cold outside and I’m wearing jeans that will totally cover them up.

I was walking around downtown after my last post trying to see what people do in real life. It’s kinda hard to catch a glimpse of calf on a dc street in the fall. Results inconclusive.
