wtf? could you please change your display name?

^^ Yeah, I think that would prob be a good idea.

relax, it’s just cankles

uh, yeah—we know

at least I thought

still

okay then. adrian, could you please change your display name?

plz dont take this as an endorsement of said display name but if you step back its kinda funny in the context of there being no suggest ban in the sandbox

I was just thinking ‘SB FREE ZONE’

Well, I mean, I figured that might be the reasoning behind it and in that respect it is p funny. Hungry4ass was LOL worthy but the new addition is just taking it too far and this is coming from a long time supporter. I wasn’t going to say anything but I’m glad HS did.

agreed

but have we not all been hungry4ass at times

We have indeed, Goole. We have indeed.

okay then. adrian, could you please change your display name?

btw for the record i would just like to say i do support this sentiment

^^

wheres jon via chi when we actually need him to threaten to murder ade

what a wonderfully formed “rape joke”

viajonchi justice

Shhh stop saying his name or he’ll show up here or something and the next thing you know we’ll all be threatened with murder and called bitches.

harsh! I like jvc, the high ground just never agrees with him.

whether you like him or not, you can’t deny that he sometimes sputters with rage.

we all go a little crazy sometimes

starvin’ for ass here

LOL

Hahaha <3

I asked two female friends irl if mark ruffalo was attractive—they had never heard of him but recognized his pic. one said he was very attractive, the other said ‘not my type’

did you show them the whole fold-out wallet of the ruffalo/donofrio/vaughn/gandolfini spectrum & ask at which point in the line w they most rather s?

vaughan doesn’t look right if i see a pic of him before/between schlubbiness, guy looks underweight if he’s not a little overweight

in fact there’s a couple dudes maybe could do with rocking the schlub look a lil more imo, does a dude as pretty a olyphaunt really *need* to be so cut?

Think about it

Omg olyphant is dreeeeeeeeeamy

olyphant seems skinnier than yr average hollywood hunk

I’m glad we stopped ignoring the olyphant in the room

haa

e yr tastes run v similar to ms mac iirc, olyphaunt is flavour of the moment chez nous

in fact have you ever heard of niko kranjcar, just as a test

That was Justine not me but I would agree that Olyphant is a handsome man.

I just looked up the Croatian dude. That guy’s neck is too big for his head or something. Throws it all off imo.

ha sorry yr names are throwin me

Niko’s chin is a lil weak imo but can i say it outloud in my own living room no i can’t is this justice

He’s obv a good looking guy but I assumed I was allowed to nitpick.

oh you are, my gf can’t hear you doing it

No, I know. I was more putting that out there because I felt bad saying an obviously attractive dude wasn’t good looking because he is. I just can’t get past the weird neck.

it’s cool ur on the net sheesh

just struck me tbh

hey hey ruffalo plays the hulk in the upcoming avengers movie lmao

oh cool who plays dr banner

niice

wut im not angry just a lil bloated

Adrien Brody is one of the most attractive and Ryan Gosling (the ugly American Jérémie Renier) quite possibly the least attractive male person in this thread, in the opinion of this straight male Jewish person. I too prefer Kids are Alright Ruffalo to Lesser Ruffalos, though I’ve never seen the big deal about him—he’s non-threatening, I guess, while retaining enough macho not to embarrass the opiner. I confess to thinking Vince Vaughn has a certain sort of (gross) charm, but I’ll bet probably-not-great-himself-dude Jeremy Piven’s probably the nicer Chicagoan.

“Bloat” = a well-fed dude who can wear it because he’s rich. Most actors start out with (literally) big heads in the first place, fyi. Pretty unattractive word, btw, whichever gender is the recipient.

springsteen’s current look is really strange. like it just alludes to more full-on aesthetic decisions, w/jewelry, tanning, muscularity, etc, while still seeming grounded

Are you calling him the forefather of The Situation?

going back a bit but ben stiller is like jeremy piven to me in that he was an og schlubby dude who got jacked in middle age, its like reverse bloat and exponentially douchier

Jewish person is like Jewish person in that he was schlubby, but then worked out and so now is douchey.

George Clooney is still getting better looking. It’s ridiculous. I don’t even get how it’s possible.

Lol.

such a dreamboat

I also prefer Kids are Alright Moore (yum) to Other, Frequently Annoying Moores

this is all very relevant to this thread.

another possible bloat candidate [via clueless on e! today and law and order over the weekend]: Jeremy sisto

I tend to prefer law and order sisto to clueless sisto

i find it somewhat ironic that it is the men of ilx that find such fault with these men’s looks.

also six feet under sisto jeez

fault!

im merely an anthropologist

“she’s not even that pretty”

mark ruffalo is kind of annoying amirite

dudes calling dudes women are into “nonthreatening” is one of my least favorite things. it always seems sneering. i am not even 100% sure what it means, but if you are saying mark ruffalo does not seem like a rapist, i would agree.

yeah it seems like a weird defensive endrun around an existential threat to the ‘girls only like assholes’ worldview

Jewish person is like Jewish person in that he was schlubby, but then worked out and so now is douchey.

what is the highest score u can get on lsat again???

i will take the schlubby versions of almost all these guys fwiw (piven and vaughn are disgusting to me no matter what they look like)

d’onofrio = so (potentially) huggable!

mark ruffalo seems slightly melancholic, which i love, and which i am thinking maybe horseshoe does too.

he gets a lot of those moments of not seeming entirely sure of something, or engaged, or feeling counter to the prevailing mood. like he has that eehhhh thing like he can’t quite get on board, cf you can count on me

i just opened this thread to post that mark ruffalo is a poor lady’s vincent d’inofrio, glad it’s been covered!

I won’t call positing dudes’ viewing dudes as “competition” (I’m competing with Mark Ruffalo?) one of my “least favorite things,” but I don’t think it’s that major a factor in how I regard other dudes (I’m tempted to in turn call this view projection, based on the notion that this is how women view female celebrities, but I don’t actually think that). I think it obvious that I am, to an extent, objectifying dudes from an aesthetic standpoint, the same way I might women. And to the extent I’m identifying or otherwise with a given celebrity, I’m obviously going to prefer someone who, well, I identify with, for that simple reason alone.

Anyway, “nonthreatening” meant nothing like what you suggest, though I suppose it does relate to temperament. Rather, it was sort of the cognate of suggesting that men are turned off by/afraid of “strong women.”

Implicit in the background of all of this is that I’m a straight dude, so I recognize that I may well be missing some of the fundamentals in re what’s attractive about a dude.

missed u boo

lol

Ruffalo and Gosling are both very motherable.

ugh

honestly, the way i see “nonthreatening” trotted out most frequently is to sneeringly describe boys 12 year old girls might be attracted to, like leonardo dicaprio back in the day. that’s the reason it annoys me, that it seems like it’s ultimately sneering at 12 year old girls for...liking boys? liking insufficiently masculine boys, as judged by adult straight men? it seems like a weird description of ruffalo on those terms. it’s annoying no matter what.

this is great

dudes calling dudes women are into “nonthreatening” is one of my least favorite things.

oh yeah? well, I’m married to a curvy Colombian woman, so

everyone, male and female, should look threatening imo. keeps you on your toes.

i’ve said before that photographs are only a tiny part of the story with ruff which is why his attractiveness varies from role to role, because he is a v physical actor and it is often about how he moves. or rather how his movement often suggests a certain tactility, hes weirdly physically present in a lot of his movies. its really jarring in a movie like 13 going on 30 which is very kinetic and cartoonish. i think a few people including myself have previously mentioned that he’s almost uncomfortable in that movie. which makes calling him “nonthreatening” seem especially weird. i mean he’s not “threatening” either (but then i think it would be creepy if any actors mere presence on the screen were inherently menacing—i think this kindof thinking has all sorts of connotations—like the weird rape fantasy notion that gay men only like the type of guys that bullied them in school etc, etc) i feel like there would be a strong overlap between people who like ruffalo and brando because early brando does the same thing (not that i’m trying to conflate the achievements of early brando with mark ruffalo) but there is that thing where he often feels like an actual person up on the screen surrounded by a movie.

empathy is a powerful force in attraction.

i like david thomson’s take on gosling

“ Gosling said he felt influenced by the work of James Dean and Gene Wilder, both of whom had an unusual romantic tenderness and a vulnerability that refused to take comfort or cover behind a facade of male self-assurance.”

but this thread isn’t really about ryan gosling or how nonthreatening ilxor type dudes find mark ruffalo.

I always thought that “nonthreatening” was kind of code for “not sexual” bcuz lots of ppl are v v uncomfortable with the idea of 12, 13 y.o. girls having actual sexual desires. There’s this real kind of paternalism behind it. Or maybe cleaning up to make acceptable to mothers of teenage girls? (this one is hard bcuz obv I have been a randy 12 y.o. girl but never been the mother of one or placed in the role of being forced to be guardian of any young girls’ morality/purity/other bs terms etc.)

It’s kind of the progression of Duran Duran from the Planet Earth + Girls On Film videos (overtly sexual) to Is There Something I Should Know where they were styled to be unsexual and therefore nonthreatening. The irony being, most teengirls I knew preferred them in the sexual incarnation.

Still don’t get Ruffalo but we’ve already established my taste in lust objects = weird.

i feel like there would be a strong overlap between people who like ruffalo and brando because early brando does the same thing (not that i’m trying to conflate the achievements of early brando with mark ruffalo) but there is that thing where he often feels like an actual person up on the screen surrounded by a movie.

i’m p patchy w/early brando but this is def otm re: his gentler, picking-up-gloves side, & v true of ruffalo

nonthreatening almost reads, & yeah semi-offensively, as not-eligible, to me, like it’s someone ‘limp’ enough to exist outside the realm of perceived mates. marriageables.

honestly, the way i see “nonthreatening” trotted out most frequently is to sneeringly describe boys 12 year old girls might be attracted to, like leonardo dicaprio back in the day. that’s the reason it annoys me, that it seems like it’s ultimately sneering at 12 year old girls for...liking boys? liking insufficiently masculine boys, as judged by adult straight men? it seems like a weird description of ruffalo on those terms. it’s annoying no matter wha

There is no sneering involved. And I am hardly calling for the upholding of masculinity—I picked arguably the most feminine dude in the thread as arguably its most attractive, which is unsurprising for me. Rather, I’m saying something not unlike what you said yourself in other words—“boys 12 year old girls might be attracted to.” Another way to put it might be “boys who are not adults,” the role that of course made Ruffalo. Like I said, flip the genders and I could be pointing at men afraid of “strong women” (or, on your terms, “girls 12 year old boys might be attracted to”); I just think some women do it too. And again, I’m not saying that this is the only element of Ruffalo’s (or Gosling’s) attractive potential, but I think it may well be there for some or many women.

And again, the “threat” I’m referring to has nothing to do with physical or any other sort of violence or “menace,” so I don’t know why people keep talking about this.

I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with being attracted to this type. I’m just trying to identify what makes him attractive, because I don’t find him so, especially.

wait what role made ruffalo?

You Can Count on Me

btw NYers u can now see his negligent bus driver in Margaret again at the Cinema Village (2x a day, so not for long)

ok lol i can see your input is v valuable to this thread xp

I think I’m pro-ruffalo now

You always hang in a ruffalo stance.

I always thought that “nonthreatening” was kind of code for “not sexual” bcuz lots of ppl are v v uncomfortable with the idea of 12, 13 y.o. girls having actual sexual desires. There’s this real kind of paternalism behind it.

That might be the case if we were talking about Robert Pattinson, say. Mark Ruffalo is 44 years old and quite obviously a sex object.

i find this p threatening tbqh
