Krampus Day—December 5th

Although some parts of Austria celebrate Krampus day on the 6th, the 5th of December has traditonally been the day that devil-like Krampus roam the streets punishing those for their bad doings thoughout the year. They are often accompanied by St. Nicholas and can be found in parades in the evening. The Krampus, as seen below, often wear wooden masks, are dressed in animal furs, and often carry bells, chains, whips, and baskets with them. In case you were wondering about the baskets, they carry them on their backs in case the Krampus need to take away the children who’ve been bad throughout the year.

I have never heard of this myth, but I guess it explains the Southern Tier beer.

Krampuslauf in St. Anton, Austria! I have been to St. Anton but I didn’t see no stinkin’ krampusse. It’s a good thing too because I was 13 and probably would have shit myself if I saw these beasts parading around.

i had 2 glühweins and ~3 beers. great times! the noise was incredible. there was a bit where they just stand in a circle and make as much noise as possible. it was like boadrum77 or sth. if you are girl with long hair then watch out, they love you.

ha they got in trouble with the police for getting in the fountain. i have a video of that bit i will post later.
